Finally got it right. Left the front as it was and installed a new rear tire, this one is a Falken, not that it matters I don't think. Bought it at a car tire shop, and went one size narrower, but just as tall as the OEM Kenda. Dealership couldn't balance the tire so I took it to a MC dealer to balance. As I watched the young man attempt the procedure I noticed that the wheel and tire were too heavy for the machine and so made the shaft wobble,,,, well that won't do anything for a balance and he agreed,,, koddos for him. As they had the same balancer as most other shops I have seen, I got to thinking that maybe, just maybe I really never had this roller truly balanced before, so I took it home and made my very own balance set-up. It took a while, but in the end I had a balanced tire,,,, nice difference,,, but didn't entirely solve the problem just yet. Mostly though, it ran nice and smooth with the occasional vibration now and then. So, seeing as it wasn't constant,,,, as indicated before, an out of balance would be there all the time, I decided that I needed to do another Brenner on the front, and seeing as I had now determined that the right front was more errant then the left, I gave that tie-rod one half turn to stretch it out some. PROBLEM SOLVED!!!!!! Thanks for all your help and input,,, and I am now set up to get this right for others.

Front axle collar problem
Marcarl replied to meach's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
I would be looking at a bent axle, or possibly on a far out chance that the axle was not torqued to spec. As mentioned, when you torque the axle it squeezes the outer spacers, bearing inner races, and the collar together to form one supposedly solid shaft from side to side, leaving the wheel free to rotate on the bearings. Tolerances are quite tight, so a bend in the axle would through things out of line to cause some trouble. I can't see the collar bending, and I would think if that cast aluminum wheel were to pretend to bend, it would crack,,,, but stranger things have happened. The axle is steel and will bend,, so I would check that first. If you have a lathe, stick it in there and give it a spin. -
My 85 did that once. It was after I let my 6'4, 250lb nephew take it for a ride. We usually did this every year at our family get-together. Did I say he has a size 14 shoe and a foot to fit it? Well he admitted that he couldn't find first and so jammed the pedal down a bit harder. Don't remember if it helped him at all, but it sure got me confused. He bent the rod that's behind the middle gear cover. I got behind the cover with a crow bar and managed to get it straight again. You might have the same issue and to compound it all, somebody might have adjusted the pedal to compensate. The link behind the cover should be straight, and the pedal should be set according to the mark on the shaft.

Nah,, don't like the color,, I'll keep what I've got,, I like it!!!!!,,, so there!! -
Went out for a ride today as well,,, enjoyed the colors a whole lot,,, Marca has a sore back so was not able to attend, but I rode her kind of roads anyways. Around here it seems the prettiest roads are those that have no pavement,,, so either hardpak or gravel. Was out for 3 hours and most of it was on hardpac, max speed about 30mph,,, awesome ride. I also noticed that most farmers were getting ready to white wash again,, they were all out getting the grain off the fields before they could do the next job in line,,,, hope they do a good job this year.

Removing a Broken Key

Good thought Puc! Next time though, leave your scoot in gear or it will get tired once again. -
I plan to do another ride tomorrow,,, maybe the afternoon,,,, now I'll do it in memory of an excellent summer, and Bobby's last ride for this season,,,, and the looking ahead for what's to come shortly.

Good going boss,,, hope it likes you....... and now that you have 4 wheels does that put you ahead of 3 ???

Get a length of #14 copper wire, wind some steel wool around the end and secure it with black tape about 4-6" from the end. Put the other end in the drill and you have your tool. You'll need to know which way the drill will run and wind it accordingly. The more you put on the bigger the ball becomes as you increase the speed of the drill. Not perfect, but will do the job.

I hope you don't have a bad back,,, that thing will ride like a tank!!! Take it down some un-smooth roads before you lay down the cash. The 5.3 maybe a little light, but then how often do you plan to pull something that heavy. I used to pull my 28' trailer with a 4.8. Yep it had to work at it, but it did it just fine.
-
Yep,,, and you now know that a HD wasn't meant to ride fast,,, so that's why they need to be up front so we don't loose them.

I can fully understand the desire to be ahead of the line, to enjoy the road and country without having a cage in front of me that I have to pay attention to. As I watched the video I could see a reason to move on, to the 'open' road, but hey,,, wait a minute,,, there is a double line,,,, and we are traveling fast enough to satisfy the speed limit already,,, I do have a (hopefully) precious person on the back,,,, I do have to pass 2 cars,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,, ah YES!!!! but I do have a fast machine,,, and why have a fast machine if you can't demonstrate occasionally,,,,, LET'S GO!!!!!!. Cager: (looking in his mirror at the upcoming bike and going where he is looking) Look at that idiot,,, all that noise,,, who does he think that he is,,,, double line here and he wants to pass????? I going plenty fast for the speed limit,,,, oh shiit he hit me???? Yeh, lots of possible scenarios. All depends,,,,, and that he don't care,,, well, that's his prerogative,,, maybe he's had enough of those 'bikers'. He's entitled to his opinion, but he did stop. Maye take a lesson from this and ride to be respected and not to be abhorred.

So did we,,,,?????? I know, we didn't leave until after 2, then felt our way along the river to end up in Dunnville,,, and then it looked like rain and we did experience some drops, so immediately got on the scoot and headed east,,, away from that stuff,,,, except that when we were in Timmies I guess some got ahead of us,, but no issue,, we ride a Spyder so in short order we had that liquid snow behind us and we were riding the back-roads of Effingham,,, I think we did most of them 2 times,,,, enough to get hungry anyways so we stopped in at a local grub place to fill the middle tank. Foods pretty good at the Lazy Loon. Again, when we got out it sure did look like somebody west of us had gotten busy gathering some air-borne moisture so we headed straight home,, got caught with a shower in Binbrooke, so stopped at Timmies, (a different one this time) to dawn our rain gear,,, that sure put a stop to any more of that wet stuff,,,, rode all the way home with nary a drop,,,, rats, lot of work for nothing...... but we had a wonderful ride.

There is one thing that everybody needs, and if we loose that, then life is at it's end,,,,, I speak from experience! We can have all the food and water we want, live in the the best house, drive the nicest car, have a full bank account (what ever that means), have a very beautiful wife or totally handsome husband, travel the world and spend lots of time on vacation, have good kids,, and what ever else might be on your 'bucket list'. But if you don't have love,,, yes love!!!! you have nothing and life will not be worth living. Somewhere, somehow a person needs to be loved and to be able to love in return. This is not something that we normally see or choose to discover. We look at the material things a person has around them, but often fail to discover the mental part that is love. Not saying that is where your friend was in life, there are other reasons to call it quits, but many times that is the issue. Real love can only be found in one place, I can tell you, but you'll have to send me a PM to get the answer, or ask Freebird. With love we can move mountains so to speak, the world might crash around us, but if we have love,,,,,, we can manage and get through the toughest times, if we want.

A 10 year old tire might be the biggest culprit here. I suppose we might blame aggressive riding, but a 10 year old tire doesn't givea rider much in the way of traction, add to that cool pavement, cool tire, and a feller needs to take things into account.

Better half is height challenged...advice please!
Marcarl replied to Bert2006's topic in Watering Hole
My wife can't see over my head either, but my shoulders don't get in the way. She says that is just fine because she doesn't want to be a flag pole. Just her words, but I typed them. -
You got the name wrong I think,,,, didn't old guys were named Vern,,, but if you insist, then names like Puc will have to go.

Where did you get that idea? Your mind is starting to work like mine,,,, good improvement I'd say. Need some help with that whitewash machine??

Better explain you're issue a bit better,, or are you not aware that those bars are fully adjustable. Can't for the life of me see how you can't get them to be comfortable. Maybe you could explain what you've done so far?
