  1. Wow Squid and Lonna,,, a lot of others would have bit the dust and in less 'serious' incidents than what you two went though. You were spared my friends and now you have more experience and you can also have more comfort in knowing that the Master is looking after you in all situations. As has been said, a little knee bending I think was in order. How nice it is to know that we are not in control near as much as we like to think,,,, after all, who was it that held that bike up right,,, was it you??? Glad to hear you two are physically ok and able to share,,,, May He continue to bless you.
  2. It's not going to be easy to replace the heat generated by charcoal in the pot. That is some very hot stuff, and generates more heat than you might think. 2 elements are not going to do that trick. My thought would be to leave the charcoal in the smoker,,, adds to the flavoring, and then add 1 pipe that leads to a small smoke generator. You won't need much smoke really. The idea of smoking takes a relatively short time. First the item needs to be surface dry, but not sealed by heat. Then the smoke can be added and the item will take on smoke until the outside surface seals, then it's over, at least for the intended destination of the inside yummies. Hence many folks like to do a cold smoke, so less than 100 degrees. Takes longer for the outside to seal and you get more smoke into the real meat. So when you insert the piggie and you want it to take on smoke you first need to dry the surface, for if the surface is not dry it will evaporate the moisture to the environment and as the moisture is leaving nothing much is going to approach the skin,, it's kind of like a one way street, it's either coming off or going on, but not both. So to do this well,,,, first let the meat warm up, leave it out so that it gets warm, even dry on the outside, then put it into the cooker and apply smoke, the less heat you insert into the cooker the better, so an exterior smoke generator is needed, you might even go so far as to cool the inlet tube to keep the temp down inside the cooker. Ten minutes will give you a light smoke flavor, 60 minutes will give you more, but more than likely you'll only get about 30 minutes of effective smoking. Once the smoking is done, cook it anyway you like, the flavouring process is all done.
  3. Hey,,, you got to be true to you name,,,,, why have a name like yours if you're just going to sit there and ponder,,,, no sir,,, get out there an fly even if it makes you a fool. My son-in-law had a grandfather. He was 92, and then one day while the whole clan was out camping he decides that this is the time to do some para-sailing. He gets up and is gone when grandma is out looking for what happened to her man. One of the off-spring says,,,, look up grandma, he up there. She almost had a heart attack thinking he had done it in, but after she realized that it was him hanging on the bottom of the sail,,, she got right upset. When he landed she went to give him proper crap,, his answer? Honey I've always wanted to do that and seeing as I had very little to loose,, I did it. When I was younger I was scared that I might get hurt bad or maybe die,,, but at 92 what's the issue,,,,, and I DID it!!!!!
  4. Another thing to consider: Say the owner pays you $1000 to take it and then after getting into it you find that it needs a total rebuild and is going to ruin the budget,,,,, what are you going to do with such a piece of junk??? Auto wreckers don't take them, the dump will turn you back and there is probably no room in the neighbors yard and he would most likely notice it the next morning anyways. To me it looks like more trouble than what it's worth. Bad flooring shows low care and maintenance, dirty outside show lack of concern, tarps all worn out kicks on the red lights. Careful, careful!!
  5. Scott,,, you did great,,, really,, yes you did,,,,, but look at the picture in post #55,,, picture#2,,,, you didn't introduce us to the folks sitting in the background. Now I realize that the chain is heavy,,,, but you did say that this was a VR M&G didn't you??? and that there were going to lots of folks there??? leading us poor uninformed Canucks to believe that these were alllllll VentureRiders...... so introductions please???? I also got the drift of the exercise first thing in the morning,,, taking us out for a ride on the squidleys and twisties,,,, trying hard to confuse our minds so that we might not be right on the bit when it came to lunch time,,, nice work!!!! you can now join the VARMIT collection and take your rightful spot in the line-up.
  6. Hey Puc,,, we have a tradition here north of the border. Now it would be a real M&G for us if you could handle that tradition. The tradition is: The organizer introduces each and everyone of the guests!!! I know you can come up with a lot of stories, but this may be stretching the chain a bit. can you do it???
  7. Hey and don't go nuts,,, you started it!!
  8. I use the paper towel, just got to make sure I have enough,,,, have no idea why they have a blower there,,, nobody uses it,,,, course could be handy if I mess a bit, then I could dry off my tippies.
  9. Side by side eh???
  10. Guess you joined the other 20 that read this post so far,,, wonder what attracted everybody??
  11. Maybe if you had been around first thing in the morning, you might have the answer to that question,,,, not saying anything about seating on the Spyder, or how it handles 2-up,,, or whether I heard anything that the Pucster complained about,,, it's just that I was busy riding and had my helmet on, and mostly concerned myself with what was ahead of me,,, more so than what was behind me. Not that any of this means anything,,,,,, but now back to the hugs,,,,,,glad you got a good one,, could happen to no better man!!!
  12. http://biggeekdad.com/2010/10/side-by-side/
  13. And she gave me a big hug,,,,,,,, yep!!!! She's famous!,
  14. Thanks Puc for putting this on,,,, met some great future VentureRiders,,,, but most of them were looking to see if the Spyder could actually outrun them. You sure have a lot friends in that there neck of the woods,,, 'course it helps if you offer free hotdogs,,, and they were kind of good actually,,, but not as good as some I have eaten,,, but that's another story for another day,,, I wouldn't want to take away your thunder. Riding around your parts was really nice as well,,, did you find some roads just for us?? and that Tippy girl,,, now she is one of a kind,,, and of Dutch decent as well,,, no wonder then that you get along so well. Thanks for the 'motel' and the coffee,, I hear it's kind of scarce in that part of Pure Michigan, so I was impressed even more when a mug was produced just for little ole me.
  15. TCI not usually a problem on the second gen,,, more often plugs or coils,,,,, change the plugs first and then go from there.
  16. From what you said so far the first place I would look would be the ignition. Take of the the air box and squirt some carb cleaner into each carb separately to rule out carburation. If the squirt smooths out the idle, that is a trouble cylinder, if it slow the rpms then that cylinder is firing but you flooded it, so good for now. Fuel usually doesn't go in spurts, but ignition does. Put a new set of plugs in her to get started.
  17. Something else to keep in mind. If you decide to 'bumper' tow, put a hitch on the front as well. Takes only a few minutes to shuck the trailer, turn around and hook to the front of the truck,,, now you can put that trailer in a baby crib. When we had our MH it had a front hitch, and although I never had a need for it, the former owner used it lots foe his boat and it worked beautifully.
  18. If your 83 is that squirrelly you might want to check the frame for cracks. 83s have been know to crack their frames and that would make the frame have kind of a loose like feel under duress.
  19. All agreed so far. I can add a double thought for slide out, wouldn't buy anything without at least one good sized one for living quarters. Also often forgotten, if you buy a fifth wheel, don't skimp on sleeping room,,, some have it and some do not. You have to be comfortable there as well. Often the reason some are so cheap,,, they just have a bad layout and low head room,,,, not good.
  20. Looks like he's sporting a mini on the front,,,, good shot!
  21. Looks like your wife is just fine,,, didn't even get wet,,, what ever you did, you did it right.
  22. Good lookin scooters,,,, now you have more decisions,,,, good luck!
  23. Don't sweat it Richard, cooler days coming, and then there be Snow!!!
  24. We are planning to spend a few days riding in the Kawartha\Eastern Ontario region. We are staying away from any big cities, want to spend time seeing country. Anything in that area that should be visited, lake cruises? places to eat well? museums? lookouts?
  25. I won't be able to make this event for the next two weeks. Gonna be riding the Kawarthas next week and the week after I got a meeting. Should be able to join in on the 5th again.
