  1. Maybe a plug wire isn't seated properly
  2. Well now!!! No sympathy from me my friend, only because I do as I am told,, sometimes!! well maybe not that often, but there was a time,, at least once I'm sure,, weelll as sure as I can be at my age. What a bummer, and you are one of those who find it enjoyable to get out to help others and so are normally on the move. Things change, so here's my wishes that what lies in store for you may somehow come out to be a blessing in the end. I'm glad that you have already decided to be as helpful as you can here. Just don't be getting yourself 'underfoot' understand, you know momma didn't like that.
  3. Here's at Ya @cowpuc. Happy Birthday wishes for ya and that you may be have many more and be blessed in what lies ahead. May our Father bless you and keep you, and make His face shine upon you, and grant you His peace.
  4. Them tubes look good, really nice. Now buff them on a buffing wheel and then finish them with Classic Cloth. Clean them once a year with the cloth and you'll be a happy camper. On the rear, the caliper may not be your biggest problem, somehow you have to get the axle out as well.
  5. Knowing what you know now,, and if I were you or you were me,, so meaning that if that bike were in my garage and I had the getup and go to getter done, I might just for the fun of it take a few minutes to check the torque on those pinch bolts. You never know who did the work on them the last time and what was in his head.
  6. Maybe you could tell us what year and model you need this for????
  7. Any idea what year of bike or model you are looking for?
  8. Be mindful of putting the front end together, so here is what I mean just in case you dropped the forks. Push the forks all the way into the triple tree until they stop on the snap ring. Forks must be seated in the triple tree, on the rings. Then tighten the lower pinch bolts to spec, only about 12ft lbs if I remember correctly. Now check to make sure that both forks are the same in the upper triple tree, if not, redo the lower one to get it where it belongs. If you are going to play with the steering head, now is the time, before you snug up the upper pinch bolts. Once you are done fooling with the steering head and have it tightened into place, then snug up the upper pinch bolts. Until then, they should be totally loose. Do not, repeat. do not over tighten the pinch bolts, it can and will do lots of funny things, including causing a wobble. If you are thinking that all that stuff needs to be real tight to keep it together, then think about what those pinch bolts actually do, they just keep the forks in line, more or less. You won't loose anything by them not being super tight, the forks are held in place by the weight of the bike and can't go anywhere but up and they can't do that because of the snap rings. The forks also will not drop out because the recommended torque on the bolts is plenty enough to hold them there.
  9. What you are showing is a seal, and I would kind of doubt that it would leak, at least that would not be my first thought. I would suspect the T more so, or maybe just a separation between the two.
  10. I've had a number of 1st gen in my shop and did the back and forth swing on the front end with it off the ground. Each one showed signs of wanting to fly off onto the floor somewhere when shook hard. To me it seems the nature of the beast. All off them did real well on the road once the head bearings were serviced and adjusted properly. Even they ones with a super brace did the 'in the air loose wobble'.
  11. If you feel that it would be beneficial to somebody stuck along the road?? by all means!
  12. You are plenty early for this seeing as we have hardly even thought about who, where and why. But I can see the merit. You would be welcome to visit our place in Brantford but we are about an hour or away from the Falls. stickhandle2 lives in Welland and I'm quite sure would be more than happy to have you visit with them, they are about 20 minutes from the Falls, but you'd have to check with them,, Mike and Tammy. dogman also lives not too far away with easy access, and would be an excellent host. Dave and Bernie. Normally we go as a group from S.Ontario on Friday leaving Grimsby around 9 am and arriving in the Oberlin area between 4 and 5 in the afternoon, just in time for dinner, taking I90 most of the way. You'd be welcome to hook up with us if so desired.
  13. Two things I would check before anything else, the first would be the steering head, making sure the bearings are not pitted and properly greased and the proper tension on the bearings. Too loose on the bearings will make the whole front end seem loose and ready to let go. The other would be to look at using a narrower front tire which often helps with the steering issues on the 2nd gen.
  14. The reason for Easter? Christ has risen, Death is defeated!!!
  15. Blessings Scott in this time of trouble. Life has it's ups and downs, and for you at this time would be considered a downer. I'm glad you have more than just us to lean on and guide you through this time. May the Peace that passes all understanding be yours as you discover more of His love.
  16. Now just make sure you get the right jets into the right locations, some of them look very similar but are different sizes.
  17. Sorry to hear of your loss. I'm sure that dealing with your sister's illness was a heartbreaking experience for you and your wife and family, and then in the end to have to say goodbye and admit defeat on the battle was also very difficult. My prayer is that she is with our heavenly Father and that someday we will all meet again in perfection, never to be separated again.
  18. Good news,,,, blessings to ya!
  19. Not too bad when you loose things, you can always go to the HF store or Princess Auto and get some more. Now when you loose yourself and end up searching in vain,,,,, now that is fun!!!
  20. Check the install of the float valve, they can be a pain to seat properly. It doesn't matter how you nymber the carbs, the bike can't count and it can't read either, but just for info: LF #1 LR @2 RF#3 RR#4. Look at your throttle cable and check which carb it goes to, that would be the base carb, next is the one it's mated with and in this case it's the one in front of it. Then check the linkage to the opposite bank to see which one is linked to the base carb, leave it for now but balance the last carb to it first so that both those carbs are sync'd, then balance the linked carb to the base carb. Now that that is done, do them all again once more. Everytime you make an adjustment, blip the throttle so that all linkages seat back to where they think they should be. The throttle blip has nothing to do with clearing the carbs or engine, as much as it has to do with proper seating and positioning of the linkage. Once this is done the only thing that might throw off the sync is worn linkage or obstructions in the carb throat,,,,, or leaky valves maybe.
  21. How long since the plugs were changed?
  22. Check the parts fiche for best all around explanation. There are a number of jets and they all ave different sizes and can easily become mixed, even when a feller keeps them all separate,,, don't ask how I know this,, it's painful having to redo what you just finished doing 'so well' https://www.yamahasportsplaza.com/oemparts/a/yam/50045f8bf8700209bc794e6e/carburetor
  23. Air mixture screws 2.5 turns out might help. But I am thinking about not having to use choke at cold start, that shows rich in the fuel mixture. You mentioned a confusion on the jets, could it be that you have them mixed up, looking at the results you posted, it would seem that might be the case. Not that you can see with the naked eye, but the one is a fair bit larger than the other, and getting them wrong would give a cold not choke start and bad mileage.
  24. We have to deal with rain, which is kind of nice, seeing as without it we would become like Arizona, and I'm not much for that type of terrain. Also still busy trying to get my daughters house ready for her to move into. Riding soon enough though,,, have to, just to make it worthwhile to pay the insurance,,, if for no other reason.
