  1. In my very humble thoughts: all 3 wires from the stator, the yellow ones go to the 3 whites on the bike, don't no matter which is which because all 3 come from a third of the stator and those thirds are not designated or numbers. The green ones are ground and the reds are power, again, it don't matter, for power is power and ground is ground. I would get rid of that 3wire connector though and solder wire to wire, then wrap with electrical tape and shrink tubing. There's lots of volts there when she running.
  2. When I look at getting a deal on some auction or other 2nd hand seller, I always consider the shipping cost. In this case my thought would have been: how far is it, how much gas will it take, how many hours will it take to complete the transaction, and what will meals cost me for the trip. All told, it adds into the costs of what I might think to be a bargain, but in the end may not be so cheap as I might think,,,,, for,,,, the fact must also be considered what if I don't want what is for the offering, then it's all a waste unless I have more reasons to travel that way or that I might enjoy the trip just for the sake of the trip. If the calculations work out for me, I go, take a buddy or my wife, and see what there is to see. Iffin the figures don't work out, at least I didn't waste my day. If things don't figure out out for me, I stay put and let somebody else be happy with the find. If transaction screwed up,,,, as happened in your case, the only person hurt here is yourself,,, and I hate hurting meself.
  3. Gonna miss ya Carl, you come up with some good advice every now and then. Who are we going to get to replace you?? But hey! life goes on and things change and I can see your reason for your decision. Country is a nice place to live, been there for years, but then 10 years ago we moved closer to the city, knowing that as time went by it would be nicer to live closer to city, so now we're on the edge,,, and wouldn't move for love your money. Of course we have all we need and then some, Marca has a 3 bedroom house to quilt, sew, cook and craft in and I have 750sqft of space for my stuff, with more lawn than I need to cut and enough driveway to clear from snow. Some advice: keep your house small and your barn BIG!!!!
  4. Good to hear from you Aussie, kept wondering every once in a while as to what may be going on in your life. Good to hear that you are busy carrying on carrying-on. Blessings in all that you do and set you mind to. Stick around here a bit more often so we can keep a handle on your becomings. Say Hi to that old man of yours,,, what's his handle again???? oh yah, QuickStep, and if he gets you lost and you see a sign that says Ontario??? there a bed for you and maybe even some food.
  5. Make sure that the clothing you wear fits properly, not tightly and not so loose as to allow air flow through. There needs to be air for insulation but id the air is being exchanged then it defeats the purpose.
  6. Gonna miss ya oldman, been a good ride and glad to have had you along. I can understand your needs and where you think you should be or not to be. I have missed your more frequent posts and have been wondering where life was taking you. Blessings in your future, and if you ever get lost and end up in Ontario, we would be glad to have you make a personal landing.

    Rat Bike

Sure do look like a Scot bike though, thing I noticed that he is very worried about tailgaters with that air-horn pointing back like that, one blast of that thing would scare the bejebers out anybody. Cute!!!
  8. Don't hear very much from that part of the country. I guess it's because it repeats itself almost daily, so it's not news anymore. Interesting though, how with all the rockets and other things thrown at them, they still continue to thrive and survive. Many other nations would have gone down the poop chute long time ago. Yaweh did say that they would be His people forever and that He would protect them and give them their country to live in. Looks like He is true to His word. Good for us to know, eh?
  9. Seems you like that color,,, did you know that? Not sure it can be called an upgrade, so congrats on the change.
  10. My mother taught me and then reminded me that as I got older I was to make sure that the old and infirm were properly looked after, she said that I was never to forget about those older than me and to keep in mind that even though they might still look real good, that was not always the case of things on the inside. She said something about hearing and speech, shaky limbs, eyesight, memory, etc. So I guess I have to stick around, even though I don't ride a Yamaha right now, just to make sure that somebody is looking after all the mellowing on this site, along with the fact that I have more friends here than anywhere else. So you guys just can't leave!! OK??
  11. I'd say it goes for way more than what you could get one for elsewhere. Some two poor suckers are going to get into a bidding war.

  13. The enrichment valve and the idle circuit are two different items. Yes you're right, the vacuum measurement is for best performance and should be done with a fully warmed up engine, and if there would be a choke, then the choke would have to be fully open. But seeing as there is no choke on these machines, it only needs to be fully warm with the idle enrichment off so that it runs, as best it will, in proper running mode, or default if you will. This setup only checks the idle circuit, the enrichment valve is a whole different ball game.
  14. Plasti-fix does an awesome job on rebuilding such items. You can rebuild a tab, no problem. It maybe seem a bit expensive, but compared to other choices can be considered quite cheap.
  15. I'm kind of oldschool on this and mostly not all that concerned about things being dead on. They need to be close but I don't get myself all in a snit because, or just because. So to do a review, again in my humble opinion, the bike has a carb, and not a computer fuel injected system, so something needs to be adjusted to account for a cold engine, because we all know that a warm engine uses fuel much more effectively than a cold engine. So there is a possibility of a choke or in this case an enrichment circuit. It's there for a reason and the reason being that the engine is much easier to start and runs better on a cold start with a richer fuel mixture. When the engine gets hot, then whatever the carbs are set for will do a fine job, but the engine needs to be hot, and that doesn't happen in 2 minutes necessarily. Some others claim to be able to start their bikes just fine with no enrichment, and that to me says that the idle circuit is too rich. The system is designed with a cold start enrichment system so no harm in using it. When I took the riders training course, the instructions were: start your bike, put on your gear and only then is your bike ready to ride, it takes a couple of minutes to put on your gear I found out. Now on how I set the idle mixture: I hook a single vacuum gauge to all 4 intakes through manifold. I will first balance all the carbs (sync), then I will adjust the idle mixture to highest vacuum on each carb, then re-balance the carbs and then again adjust the idle vacuum for each carb. If an idle mixture screw doesn't have a response on the vacuum gauge, then the circuit is plugged and needs to be cleaned.
  16. I think you have covered most of the issues, and I would agree that grounding maybe a big part of the problem. Just want to point you to a ground that you may have overlooked. It's on\under the left side faring, under the radio. Outer and inner faring need to be removed to find it, also there is a ground strap on the fuel tank I think, just can't remember where. Also check the engine ground on right side of motor, near the front bottom, take it apart to clean it.
  17. I don't often jump in to disagree with anyone, but in this case I just might be accused of that. Cleaning pistons without taking them apart is asking for trouble down the road. There is a reason they got stuck and dirt is usually the culprit. If you would get them 'working' are you then sure the problem is solved? or just delayed a while. And if they do start 'working' did you get all the dirt out or is there some left that will cause complete failure next time. We're talking brakes here, not signal lights or radio. Brakes need to work in their best capacity at all times. My opinion: take them apart and don't scrimp on the repairs, if you don't you may not be around to tell us about the results.
  18. You should try feeding him spaghetti and see what happens.
  19. So it's waiting time for the next one, time to throw in a few more bucks,,, and then what???? if you win??? You'll have lots of money, all debts can be paid, you can buy what you want and go where you like when you like, you can take your friends out for supper, buy their plane tickets for vacation, secure cruise tickets for a party, buy a yacht, a car and a real MC, get new clothes and shoes.................... But then where will your present friends be??? Oh, we'll stick around for a while, but with the winner buying everything,(and why not, he has all the funds and then some), the friends will drift away because we don't cater much to all this charity, we liked it the way it was. We had to wait and work for things we wanted and then we treasured them, we have friends in the same boat, rowing the same way. We didn't have any rich friends, we don't live the same way as they do, don't talk the same talk or walk the same walk, so we have little in common. So iffin you win, be ready to spend most all of it by yourself, for your former friends will loose interest, and it will be difficult to row the new boat all by yourself because those who row those kind of boats are a different breed than you have been, and things won't match up very well. What a person needs most of all is LOVE, and with a loss of fellow inmates or varmits, it gets kind of hard to find love. When there is no love left, suicide is right around the corner.
  20. The week ain't over yet, and I learned something as well.
  21. If the rubber line shows effects of breaking down, it would be time to clean the whole system or the MC will show signs of contamination and refuse to accommodate the requested inputs from the rider. Other than that, I'm with the Fool on this one.
  22. Looks good, shows that practice makes perfect, which means that the first time is a hit and miss, or could be.
  23. Just hope that your rememberer is working and your forgetter stays broke, if not, you could always ask for assistance, some of us are real good at fixing things. Sometimes we even get things back together and on rare occasions they even work better than intended. We have all kinds of 'perts on staff, some have graduated and now are called ex-perts, that is short for experimental, which comes from the root word 'mental', which has to do with something from the brain, which in turn has been known, in some, to be in the upper part of the body, located close to the mouth out of which the brain can communicate the data that it has in store, or definite lack thereof.
  24. I have often said, it's not so much about the mistakes that we make, as much as, what we do about them, that counts. Thanks for the correction and not have us worried about having to have another vote on a name change.
  25. So what is this,,, you not a bird anymore,,,, now you just want to be a bir????, but hey, you're still free and for the Dutchman in me,,, that's good enough ok as well,,,,,, just don't become a bur!
