  2. I don't know your whole issue there , but before I would pull the heads I would check your valve seals .
  3. I have involved in the electronics industry since 1980 , but there are times when what is happening does not make any sense . My present 3 year old battery went dead and would not produce any cranking power ...I installed a new GSM battery and found that the monitor system kept on indicating a battery problem ...With a lead acid battery the monitor battery indicator turns off .....Is monitor system on the 83 built on the lead acid battery
  4. Hi..... Freebird , my thoughts prayers go with you ....I know a bit of what you are going through . 2010 I had a MRI on a follow up ...I got a call from my doctor in the H.S.C. Winnipeg hospital to come in ASAP. There were 5 doctors in the room , They introduced them selves , doctor said to me we are keeping you in tonight and will doing surgery in the morning ...He said you have 4 tumors on your liver growing at a rate never seen before ....You have at most 4 days to stop this ... 8 hours of surgery , and when I woke I turned my head and saw the bottle on on the IV pole . that read Chemo .. They had to remove the liver to get the job done , and then put it back in they got it all ....Today I am fine other than some changes in my body ........I think that this site is great , keep it going So often I read about stuff I have had on my bike
  5. I have that at times when I read a post on this site there something I have come across myself ...Sometimes it is great to hear another side of a solution
  6. To everyone I have met on this site .. May GOD bless each one ....I have been under a medical driver license suspension for the last 8 months , and it was lifted yesterday which means I can ride in 2022
  7. A question I would ask is , did the cylinder linked to one of the front disks and applied by the foot brake release all the way after it was applied ? ....
  8. To me time to ride is when the roads are clear and the snow is not blowing ...Calm clear weather and no colder than minus 5 degrees
  9. I made the same resolution I made last year and that is that I would not make one ...Then I need not worry about keeping the one I made
  10. I have been riding many of all makes used and new ..But as it turns out I will stay with the Yamaha ...They have a solid engine design and handle well and I do know everyone out there has his own favorite bike ( I started riding off road in 1958 and on the road when I got my first Harley in 1964 ) I spent 10 months on this 83 XVZ1200 to make it fit me
  11. That is a great looking bike , welcome here ...You will find some great people here to talk too .
  12. We had Christmas with our family and everything seemed fine ..All of us have been vaccinated and we felt safe ..Our daughter visited some friends who had all been vaccinated for about a hour ...3 days later she felt sick ..She packed up her family and headed home where she went for a rapid test and it was positive ..One of her kids also be vaccinated got sick and got a positive test ....We will be doing a self quarantine for 4 weeks ....There have had a number people out here who have been fully vaccinated getting sick and testing positive for Covid ...I found a Antiviral Aid at the Health food stores that has been for generations and is doing a great job ... Not every ones immune will work the same with vaccines and other aids ....What will it take for people to stop all and any travel at a time like this
  13. Here in Southern Manitoba Canada we are at minus 19 C degrees tonight and we were at minus 21 C degrees this morning ...But we have heard about flood conditions , forest fires , Tornadoes , but now to me the minus 19 C degrees is okay ...We are getting a bit of snow and we have to shovel our driveway now and then ...I would not want to trade what we have for any of the other conditions we have heard about
  14. I had mine on the Left Hand Side --Clutch Lever Side ...I relocated to the Hand Side , only because I had a better bracket for throttle side .. .What I did find was that the left hand mounted unit kept my eyes trained on the center of the road .
  15. Sometimes the smallest electrical issue can be caused by hard to find bad connections ..A corroded connection or rotten wire has been the death of electrical components ..I have seen a bad rectifier be the cause of a slow death of a stator & battery ...I do know that my new Yamaha Stator for my XVZ1200 came with a oil deflector which they said was for Stator Cooling ...
  16. I try to eat at least one orange per day , to maintain my Vitamin C my body needs ....In 1958 & 1959 we were living in Burbank California during my 6th grade , and I remember driving out of the city with family to visit Orchards and picking a fresh orange from a tree and I can tell you that there is a difference in taste from a orange picked fresh from a tree and one you buy at a store ..When one sees the result of weather damage to a orchard , you can imagine the long lasting effects that has on fresh fruit ..
  17. I had a heart attack in the spring of 2019 ... My Doctor put me on a drug called Ramipril , did some good but it had terrible side affects , dizzy spells with fainting ...I decided to try several Vitamins and drinking a cup of green tea every day ...after about a month my cholesterol level dropped more than 1 point and my blood pressure leveled to the high side of normal ..I after being on a drug called Dilantin , since 1978 .. Doctors have found that there is a chance of a severe drug interaction between drugs you are on now and any new drugs being added ...It near cost me my life , because the doctor did not check to see if there are any interactions ...Not everyone can take the meds that are often prescribed ..Not everyones body reacts to a med the same way someone else does
  18. And sometimes all we get is lemons....And all we can do is make lemonade
  19. My garage gets full all by itself ...3 Yamaha bikes 1979 750 Triple , 1981 750 Virago , 1983 XVZ1200 , and my shop equipement , Everything has its place and I like it ...i tell everyone when they see me and my shop , what you see is what you get , because this is who I am ...i ride as often as I can as long as the road is clear
  20. It may be a good time to start some of the repair yourself ...You might surprise yourself how much the repair you can learn to do yourself , with a manual and a few small simple tools ....I am 75 now and I grew up on a farm in Southern Manitoba Canada and there was little help back then for any repair in the early 1950's ...Take your time read the manual carefully and find a friend who knows some of the mechanics .. I am a bit to far away from you or I would say bring it down ...I spend most of my days working on old bikes
  21. I found some insulated blue jeans at a local clothing store ...They are great for late fall riding . Best is add some boot straps from the lower leg or cuff to under the arch of your boot , this will keep the wind out ....I have used them for about 6 years now and would not want to be without them .
  22. I have found that at minus 10 degrees , no wind and a dry road a 15 - 20 minute ride beats sitting in the coffee shop talking about a bike ride ... But I did stop in at coffee shop after the ride to warm up with a hot drink ..And besides that a ride down the road even on a cool day like does the bike a lot of good ....It will equalize the electrical system on the bike ...When a engine sits all winter the gaskets sometimes begin to leak ..
  23. It might be a good plan to check on the current needed to run the headlight ..3 years ago I bought a led headlight online thinking that it save some battery as we often assume that led is better that it may use less power .. .. I did find out that it used a bit more power than my 65/55 bulb did , the amount of light it gave me on the road was great ....There may be better ones ..
  24. This goes back to off season maintenance ...I have a simple check for the off season , if any of the following components are more than 40% gone I replace them , steering head bearing adjustment , tire wear , wheel bearings , rear suspension and internal rear wheel drive component fitment ... Gaskets , battery & wire connections ..Some riders say that this is a unneeded expense .... But when I am 3 hours from home , what is a unneeded expense ..
  25. It all depends on how much time you have before you want to ride it ...I spent 10 months on my 1983 1200 ...You need to figure doing a front to back rebuild , my thinking is that it is at most a $250.00 bike ...
