  1. I have been using a 1157 12 Volt DC light bulb inline with the positive terminal with my 2 amp charger ....When battery is low the bulb goes on full and as the battery reaches full charge the bulb goes dim and turns off when the battery reaches full charge ...At point there is no current transfer to the battery ...If you run the bike or turn on the accessories the charge rate goes back on and the bulb goes on till the full recharge is reached
  2. Maybe someday I can buy a bike like that too ..In Canada we pay plenty of tax and none of the government officials can be held accountable for their actions . I just gassed up my 1997 Chevy K1500 at $6.07 per gallon ,as the fuel price at the pump increases the price is added on top of the tax and then the tax is added again .. When you been working most of your lifetime making less than $35000.00 per year all you can do is make a wish list of what you would like to own someday ...In my case it would be a newer Yamaha .
  3. You may want to pull your spark plugs to see if they running a nice toasty brown in color or a ugly black color which would indicate over fueling ...About 8 years ago I had a problem where my plugs were running a ugly black color ...After changing the plugs I noticed that the choke was not shut off all the way .....I had been running for 2 hours with the choke on part of the way ....
  4. I have never bothered to check on that , All I can tell you is when the GPS says another hour to a rest stop ...The last thing on your mind is what kind of corn it may turn out to be .
  5. Unfortunately I know all about stop and pee ...I have a cyst on each kidney and they take their turn at reminding me to find a corn field ..
  6. The cup holder is a place to put my A& W Root Beer
  7. Over the years past I have often dressed in warm winter clothing found a clear stretch of road and gone out for a ride ...I do know know that a 40 minute ride does good things for the bike charging system , battery and engine gaskets ....I have 3 Yamaha's and the bikes that sit in storage for 4 months over winter and never run are more prone to have oil leaks and electric problems . I might get a strange look from some people and some even tell me that I am nuts ...I just tell them that's okay I am the one getting a chill or a good cooling off
  8. @ Freebird ...My own network Server at home is build on Windows 7 , and I have tried Windows 10 ..My Server has 6 hard drives where I keep Windows 10 ...Windows 11 info , Myself I prefer Linux (Ubuntu 20 ) ...I have too much money invested ( $3500.00 ) in my server to run Windows 7 and devices to make the change to Windows 10 or Windows 11 ...For me there there is no benefit to run Windows 10 or Windows 11 on the smaller devices .. ..I know the Windows insider program wants service guys to run the updated Windows ....But I am moving away from the Computer Service Industry ... Let some one else have the headache .. At 75 years I prefer to spend my time on my 83 Venture riding down the road ..
  9. I started to assemble networks in 1983 and went through the Microsoft Networking courses in 1998 , worked mostly with server work station systems . ..... My thinking is that when they moved from the Windows 7 platform to Windows 8 &10 platform , they were aiming at getting their software in the smaller devices instead of the desktop and tower computers ... When tablets , ipads became popular Microsoft saw a hugh maket opening up .. Unfortunately Windows 8 and 10 gave Microsoft more access to your system .... If you enter the IP address .. type ping 127.0.0.1 and enter key at Comand prompt it opens the back door to Windows that is used for updates to Windows .. It cannot be closed , and any hacker can access your computer , no matter what Firewall or Antivirus you install
  10. I found the 83 hard to handle / balance , and I am 5 foot 5 and had a hard time reaching the ground . I removed the rear trunk and the front fairing ...I relocated the relays to under the seat ,and lowered the rear of the bike 1 1/2 inches by relocating the shock pin by 1/2 inch ..I had to cut the side stand by 1 inch , and remove the center stand ..I installed 120 70 r 18 at the front . I removed 65 lbs from the bike and it does balance easy ...I can grab one handle bar with one hand and lean the bike 12 to 14 inches bring it back with one hand easily ...
  11. It is always good to check to check your rear swing arm alignment ...After a swing arm extension on my XV1100 . Adding a 010 of inch shim at the pivot , there was 1/8 inch at 20 inches difference which does affect handling .
  12. @Marcarl ..I did try that , and it does work . I have found that it may change on depending on the kind of bike you are riding ....My problem is that change bikes too often , but now that I have lost the interest in roaring down the road I want find the right bike for myself to stay on .
  13. I have removed the original front faring components to bring the weight down on the bike ...I have moved all the relays to under the seat and installed a Bat Wing and windshield with smaller version of dash components .. Because I mounted the coolant recovery directly to side of the bike .. I am trying to figure out a smaller version of a coolant recovery can for my 83 XVZ1200 ...To make up a smaller version of the recovery tank is easier said then done ..Had some thoughts of making one out of a 3 inch round tube to mount on the side of the bike near the rad . Appearance is something everyone will comment on
  14. I like my throttle so that when or if I let go of the throttle twist grip to close instantly ....It is best to maintain the throttle linkage and cables and if there is any question as to condition of the cables replace them ...Out here in Manitoba we call that a dead mans throttle when it does not work as it should ..I bought a used bike that had a tumble when cruise control would not release , that is one reason I do not use a cruise control ...There times when you are out on the road when split seconds count ....
  15. i do not know how long you have been riding but I do know to quit must be hard .....I hope all things go well for you ...Keep in touch..... ..Motorcycles are in my blood now and I don't how I my mind would do if I said it is over ...I am still dealing with a medical license suspension going on to be 6 months now ...My XVZ1200 is setting in my shop waiting to head down the road ..I started riding an old Harley 45 in 1964 ...My Dad owned that Harley 45 and a mechanic he hired to get it to run could not figure it out ... I got it to run and it worked just fine , so my Dad gave it to me ...
  16. My 1995 XV1100 had the flasher in behind the battery box , near the engine control module ...I miss the XV1100 Virago it is a great bike My 83 1200 had it wired close/tight to the wiring harness on the left hand side it is about 2 inches long and 1 1/2 wide and 1 inch deep
  17. I might surprised to know how many times the switch is not checked
  18. @saddlebum..I see report on air quality ..A company had many Covid cases and most everyone was doing their part in prevention but cases were still on the rise.. ...What they found was Covid droplets were found in the air makeup system and were circulating in the building heating and air conditioning system ...They shut down all company functions and everyone had to get out ...They brought in and installed a new ventilation system and special filters .They did retest on air quality and found a big improvement ..They did a live tour with a camera crew and showed the changes they made ... Many large buildings have a poor air makeup system and it is high time this gets looked into
  19. It need not always have to have a big time name attached to it , some little things do a lot .
  20. Wearing a mask and social distancing are only part of preventing Covid from spreading ..We should all do our part
  21. Wearing a mask is only part of preventing Covid from spreading ..We should all do our part
  22. i spent many months going over the bike front to back Repair .....Forks , Steering head , brakes , Changing system (New Stator ), new tires 102 70 R18 on the front ,,,Removed faring , removed rear Trunk , removed 65 lbs ,, Installed a back rest at the rear ,,I moved all the relays to under the seat ,,, I repined the center shock by 1/2 ., to raise the rear wheel and lower the bike by 1 1/2 inches ...My feet are flat on the ground ..I have 5 inches clearance about the rear wheel and 5 inches of ground clearance at 15 PSI on the rear/center shock 20 psi will increase the ground clearance to 6 inches ,,,still lots to do , I need to find a better place for coolant recovery can ,, then repaint the bikecrease the ground to 6 inches .
  23. I have working on garage and shop door springs since 1974 and became a government approved repair and installer in 1986 ...I can tell you when you work with torsion springs DO NOT BE IN A HURRY ..take your time ......any easy way of finding the wire size is .....Count 20 turns of the spring , measure the distance of the 20 turns ...Then divide the 20 into the distance of the 20 turns ...There should be a number on the winding cone you can cross to the size...Or you can measure the ID of the inside of the spring with a slide caliper ..IE.. 4.85 divided by 20 = .24225 wire size often we use .243 ..Most torsion springs on a 7 foot or 8 foot high door have a 2 inch ID ...Numbers turns to wind is cable size x 3.14 will give you the distance around the pulley ..A 4 inch pulley will measure 12 inches a round ..On s 7 foot high door you will need to wind the torsion spring 7 turns ..A 8 foot high door you need to wind the the torsion spring 8 turns .... On larger or higher doors the spring calculation works on the math 3.14 time cable pulley diameter
  24. @JFootman ...I finished 10 months of work on my 83 ...Started with the front forks, new tire,,,120 70 R18 , steering head bearings , brakes & hydraulic cylinders , hoses , new rear tire , 150 80 R16 , clutch basket , new Stator , oil leaks , relocated relays to under the seat , removed the front fairing , mounted a new Batwing to cut down on weight , mounted new gauges , cut the seat 1 1/2 inches , repined the center shock 1/2 inch to drop the rear of the bike 1 1/2 inches , removed the rear trunk and installed a back rest and I will be moving the battery down in the rear in front of saddle bags 1 on the left and 1 on the right , the 2 batteries together will equal the cranking power of the one larger one .I am about 85 percent done now ....I will post pictures of the bike with the changes soon ....The bike weights 70 lbs less now . and sits 1 1/2 inches lower now at 15 psi in the center shock and 20 psi brings the bike up and inch higher
