  1. Thanks will do , the exhaust was all black and I know it blowing the fuel out the mufflers ...I want to remove the mufflers and clean them out . I do know this unit was set up to pull a camper trailer to the east coast .. My 2007 Impala 3.5 litre does 35 to 40 mile per gallon out on the highway
  2. I pulled the slides out today and set the needle out to the next clip groove ...Went for a half hour run and I pull the plugs tomorrow ... 2 gallons of gasoline == $20.00
  3. They aligned the carbs , which did not change anything ..Compression test was good , ignition test was good .. I found that the ethanol blended fuel caused a fuel mileage problem on my car and truck as well
  4. We are paying $9.89 per gallon of gasoline ...I went out for 103 mile run last night at 65 miles per hour and no high speed throttle events with a full tank and when I got home it was empty / dry .. I have had a couple of professional mechanics check over this 83 to try to improve the mileage and so far not improvement .. One of the guys has worked for Yamaha for 30 years and knows the 83 Venture well ......My 83 is going to be a parts bike after June 17th and I will looking for a different ride ..
  5. The Antique Motorcycle Club of Manitoba is having the 22nd Annual Bison Classic Motorcycle Rally July 1 - 3 Ste Agathe Manitoba come on down to see us and join in the fun ..Our website is - www.amcm.ca
  6. Comfort is important when cruising down the road ..I guess i am just an old farm boy , growing up I was told not to go out and buy anything ...We would make it make ourselves and sometimes it took a couple of times to get it right ... There at times when I had to go out an buy a larger tool box , maybe a metal lathe , welder ..
  7. Even if my health should give out and I could no longer ride I would still be watching videos posted by others riding , because riding is in my blood
  8. I found a couple little things would have a bit to do with fuel consumption .. (1) The left hand side Exhaust was plugged (2) The motor start valve on one carburetor would not shut off .. ( 3) The choke lever would not return it to the off or back in to the run position .. (4) The plugs in the engine now are not NGK and I may replace all the plug wires
  9. This morning we had snow for for a short while before the sun came out ...Everyone here is waiting for the spring start ..Farmers are concerned about not being able to seed crops and if they are able too , it would have to be a crop able to mature in a short going season ...
  10. I hope everyone out is having a good start on the 2022 riding season ...Here in Manitoba we have had record amounts of cold , snow and rain , which makes for very slow start on the 2022 riding season for us
  11. Good lighting is great ..I came close to getting rear ended while riding my 83 Venture ..I was told that they could not see my signals and brake light ....I sensed that the conversation was going one way only , so I kept my mouth shut ....I do know that working lights on a bike is important
  12. The plugs have about 200 miles since new , but will replace them tomorrow ...Then I will my Oscilloscope to check for ignition through the rpm range , next I will do a carburetor balance which was done 200 miles ago ...If there is a problem I will find it ... Some of the other riders are finding a problem the 15% ethanol blend gasoline ..
  13. The overflow tube on one carburetor was pushing fuel out , gave the carburetor a little tap and it stopped , then added some sea foam .. The fuel spill quit , I then replaced all fuel lines and installed brass fittings at all curves or corners the fuel lines need to make ...Only to avoid any line being pinched ... The carburetor slides and their chambers were a bad mess .... If I do not do a single carburetor conversion , I do know where there is set of carburetors that are available .
  14. I thought it might be cylinders not running ..It has plenty of power ...I cleaned the carburetor chambers & slides because they were badly scratched ...To me it seems like a carburetor issue ...Seriously considering a single carburetor conversion
  15. I fueled up after a short ride about 20 minutes long , and went for another short spin ...I could not believe the amount of fuel bike is using .....At the best I am doing 15 miles per gallon and the 3rd try it used a half gallon on a 6 mile ride ...I decided to take a look for the easy little things that cold be wrong ..I have no fuel leaks anywhere , air filter is new ...I was not driving it hard at the most 65 miles per hour will low rpm shifts , with new plugs and a fuel additive .. ..I will drain the fuel tank and refill with fresh fuel and if this the mileage this bike does it is going to be a parts bike ....I have not checked camshaft timing , but at 85000 miles is that something this engine could need .... I have repairing bikes and engines since 1964 ...I have been riding all sorts of bikes many of which were running 35 to 45 miles per gallon ...
  16. Growing up on a farm in southern Manitoba , I had no choice but get out the tool box and get to it ...My dad kept on telling me that he was not going to buy any implements new and for sure not trucks either ...I had just turned 14 and we were in the harvest season ( September ) and he tells that he a just bought a larger truck from another farmer and that they would bring down in the afternoon ...I was waiting to see the edition to list of trucks , no one was coming ..A couple of hours later I hear a John Deere tractor coming down the road , and it pulls into our driveway pulling the truck , and talk to guy and ask why is he pulling it and he answers because it does not run ... I go to my dad tell him and says to me , I know ..That is where you come , and you should get to it we need the truck by tonight ... I learned growing up to figure it out and do it ..
  17. I know someone who built a straw bale insulation ... house ...Very thick walls and all doors and windows are a special fit ...Their heating bill is very near ZERO DOLLARS ...The straw bales have been chemically treated to resist fire and moisture ....Not sure of the cost
  18. The Second Colorado low in 3 weeks ( it turned from snow to rain this morning ) hit us today here in Manitoba today , mostly in doors doing some cleanup on the old 83
  19. It seems that the simple things in life are always important to all of us
  20. I would want to add too all this and that is society in general is on on a slippery slope out of control ...A lack respect for ones self and others , common sense , No one remembers the golden rule .... Do onto others as you would want to do onto you . and some day often is what goes around comes around
  21. We relocated from Manitoba to Burbank California for 9 months in 1958 . This country boy had never before seen what happens in cities like Burbank , Los Angeles & Pasadena ..The school where I attended for the grade 6 classes was fenced by a chain link fence with security guards at the entrance ..We were told to never walk alone too and from school as there were plenty of bad things happening . ..I walked past the Police and Fire Station every day on my way to school and was given grand tour of the Station .. The police / Fire Station alarms were sounding every hour ..
  22. I know that is probably true ....But I could not drive or ride anything last year ..I came off 8 month medical drivers licence suspension, I am having with drawl b4cause not riding my my bike at all in 2021
  23. Here in Southern Manitoba we have had 12 inches of snow , wind and cold the last 3 days ..The weather man is telling us there is more snow coming and that this will last another 3-4 days , ..I would trade this for sunshine and clear weather any day ..We all had plans of riding on the weekend , but for obvious reasons we will not be riding
  24. Sometimes it makes sense to read an article about someones else projects or reports of their experiences ..And if you ask a question the answer often there someone who has the solution to your problem
  25. My first thought was that it was steering head bearings , have double checked all tire pressures at 35 psi ..checked steering head bearings buy the inspection shop that does the highway traffic act safety inspections ..Had checked the rear swing arm mounting and all nuts and bolts are torqued ...
