  1. I grew up on a farm in southern Manitoba , where there very little traffic of any kind ...Every farm boy by the age of 6 years has been driving a tractor and a farm truck by 13 years old ....At 13 I made many a trip into town to pickup parts ..When I turned 16 my mother took into town to the police station for a drivers test ..So happen the police chiefs son and I were in the same class in high school ..When my turn came for the drivers test the police chief and I got into my mother car and he looks at me and says have I seen you driving in town before ...He then told me me to do a series of parking and driving events ..The whole driving test took about 10 minutes ...He looks at me and says drive back to the police station , as he walked past my mother he says to her keep an eye on him he may want to go for ice cream before he leaves town ..
  2. I do know that fuel consumption weather it is LPG or gasoline depends on power demand ..I do know that if your home is using a 100 AMP MAIN Breaker normally often will have a constant 35 amp power demand on average day ...If you overload your generator chances are it will shorten its winding life .I spent 20 years in a industrial environment servicing a power grid ....I have learned never rely on the rating the unit you are planning to use ..They normally are peak rating , at a short maximum load .
  3. Backup power system is great to have ..The unfortunate part of it is that my system burns 5 gallons of gasoline per hour .. I have a 13 hp Honda driving a 5 KVA Commercial generator ...(.A 5KVA rating is 230 Volts running 40 Amps for a constant 1000 hours )...We were hit by a 3.5 level Tornado in 2018 which took out the power grid for a 5 day period ..4 years ago ..The fuel to run the generator had to hauled in by truck from 20 miles away because of the power grid being down ..
  4. Over the years of serving bikes , I have seen a ticking wheel cylinder cause problems much like that ....I like to mount the rotor in my metal lathe and take a power sander to the rotor as it spinning , sometimes tiny bits or road rash and bits of the pads stuck to the rotor cause problems
  5. Good information is what is often needed
  6. When you have good information for the trip you are on it saves time , and will keep you from making a few wrong turns into country side with only one way out .
  7. I have not replaced the fork bushings , but I will replacing them ...The guy I bought the bike from had similar problems till he matched the front and rear tires .....Have checked and rechecked the steering head bearings , and will be replacing them again only this time i will try to get them from Yamaha ..Have had a series of problems on other bikes when we use after market parts....More guys I know have had strange events after using after market steering head bearings ...
  8. When a friend passing from this life to eternity , the sense of loss is what we should feel ...Then it is a good time to celebrate his life , and to remember all the things we know about them...
  9. Boy that sure does sound good , only problem is I am miles away , you guys have a great time
  10. For me VentureRider is great , have talked to a lot of good people ... Have got some great information about my 83 ZVX1200 and I am a old longtime biker but it seems that I cannot quit learning . For me buying this basket case 83 4 years ago and spending months , weeks , hours to get it running , it seems like I have stepped into a while new line of bikes and that no matter how many bikes I have worked on or been riding , that not all bikes are exactly the same
  11. The front tire was a Exedra Max 120 / 70 r18 ..I first noticed the low speed at 35 mph and I first thought it was road conditions ...I did another not severe at 60 mph .. I put it back into the shop and went over the steering bearing installation and adjustments ....But nothing changed , I put the bike back into the shop and changed the front tire to a Dunlop Elite series ...It was much better and went for a hour ride and all was fine till I pulled to pass a Semi and at a speed of 70 mph and the speed wobble went very bad in strong side wind ...I thought this will not end well with semi on my tail and traffic coming from the front ..I gripped the handle as tight as I could , shifted down to 4th gear and opened the throttle all the way and as the front lifted a bit the front began to steady ..Holding the handle tight I slowed down slowly and as it stayed steady I head back to my shop where I began to pull the front apart ...I have many ,many front ends in my time ...I will check each piece or part on that front end and it may take a while ...I have 4 other bikes and I will ride something ....
  12. I have a 1983 XVZ12TK and spent a ton of time and money on it ....There been little things going that were hard to get used too ..Last week I was out for ride for about an hour ...The engine ran good but the front wheel went into a bad speed wobble not real tank slapper , and put it back into the shop and checked everything including the steering head ....Then switched the front tire back to a Dunlop and it was much better ..Another next day and went another ride and upon passing a semi and 2 cars another front speed wobble happened ... I put the Venture back into the shop and have not been on the Venture for ride since ...Working on another bike at this point , and I don't like to put the Venture away for good but I may have to ..
  13. I know very well what head injuries are are , and it is no laughing matter ...In 1978 I fell 20 feet to a concrete floor , fractured my skull in 4 places ,broke my neck , collar bone , 4 ribs , L5 in spine , fractured my pelvis , broke one arm .. 2 years in recovery ..I lost all memory for 3 weeks ..Had surgery on my head 5 times with implants to keep my head together ...A regular size helmet is to heavy for my neck as drives my neck into a bunch of pain ....It is only by the Grace of GOD that I am still alive today ..
  14. I went to half helmet with a leather fit to the base of the skull ...So far after about a 3 hour ride I like the helmet
  15. I grew up to about 5 foot 6 inches and for some reason I am back to 5 foot 5 inches ...They tell me that it is a aging process , which it may well be ...But sometimes that different sizes and strokes makes life interesting ... Maybe that is why manufactures cannot always get it right
  16. I have tried wood , it is not that easy ...I can do a lot of other stuff ...But wood work just like some other trades or skills take time . Sometimes it has to do is how much effort and how much patience we we have to get the job done ..There some jobs that simply take a lot longer no matter how good we are at them
  17. Always something is right .... No one wants to be responsible for them selves or willing to take care of the little things that happen in life ...It is time for all these so called helpless to pull up their socks and get things done .
  18. At 75 years old I find myself looking for a lower well balanced bike ..I lowered my 83 1 1/2 inches at the rear and low profile tire at the front which did help , the balance control is great ..I do have 3 Yamaha bikes in the 750 cc size , but the switch to that size of bike is not here for me yet ..Many of the guys here have gone to Yamaha VSTAR ....I ride with some guys my age and older and the conversation always goes to either stop riding or finding a bike with less weight ...I belong to the Antique Motorcycle Club here in Manitoba ..There a demand here for older bikes and some of the parts are getting to be hard to find ...
  19. Good to hear your made through the event .. I know that birds can do a lot of damage when they come up of the ground from the ditch or side of the road combined with speed you are traveling at ..
  20. 5 years ago a couple of us were riding to our club rally when a small flock of black birds were on the shoulder of the highway came up and flew right into my face breaking my glasses ..I was fortunate that I had no serious injuries ...I had one sore eye for a couple of days and had to buy a new set of glasses ..I was able to maintain control of the bike at about 65 miles per hour ...
  21. God knows our each and every pain . Thoughts and prayers go with you at this time . In the book of Matthew Jesus says we should ask him for help ..We are to believe that our prayers will answered ...Faith brings hope ...There is a old gospel song that goes ..This World is Not my Home , I am just passing through .
  22. I have a 1997 Chevy K1500 that I have had for 20 plus years and it 529000 Kilometers on it , I rebuilt the engine at 489000 Kilometers and the Transmission at 400000 Kilometers and it has the original front end ..ball joints etc ...I service at regular intervals and I would would not sell the truck for any money ..i am doing my own chassis / body repairs ...and it is paid for ..
  23. My wiring harness on my XVZ12TK has connection problems looks like it has been repaired before ,,how different is the wiring harness for a XVZ12TDK
  24. There is benefit to riding in a truck , better protection .. And just plain more metal and more distance between you and the other traffic
  25. Retirement is a big word , could be done a couple of different ways ...At 75 I have decided time to pull the pin on the big jobs ... I will pick the jobs I want to do and only if I feel like working ..I insist on having a great time what ever I do ..I am not going to be a couch potato ...
