  1. Our local Co-op gas station here in Southern Manitoba has the Premium Grade Ethanol free gas ..The only thing is it costs us $7.60 per gallon....The is a sign at the pump saying Hot Rod Fuel ...There a large demand for the Ethanol Free gas here and every one does hope that Premium will remain Ethanol Free
  2. When I run the bike , I would run it till the rad fans have cycled several times and the temp gauge is at a full operating temp before shutting it ...Sometimes that amounts to a half hour ....When the choke comes off at startup I wait a couple of minutes then run the rpm at about 2000 rpm till the temp gauge is right up and then back to idle before I shut it down ...This may be all wrong , but then that is my bad ...
  3. I normally run my 83 till it warms up till the fans kick in every 5 days in my shop ...I missed a week because the fuel ran out .. I added fresh fuel yesterday and tried to start it and it would not ...I found a severe flooding condition on 3 of the 4 cylinders , and it took quite bit of trying for all the cylinders to clear and run ...I found that I had a dried up hard rubber fuel line and thought that there might have carburetor problem ...I will be replacing the fuel lines but is it possible that there is a carburetor problem after sitting dry for a week ?
  4. Here in Southern Manitoba , having coffee sitting on my couch ...It is minus 26 degrees out there now heading down to minus 30 tonight ..Tomorrow not much better , most everyone here is ready for that first day of spring
  5. Just came back from a service call to a customers place and after many days of Minus 20 degrees we have a light rain today here in Southern Manitoba ...Slippery roads no one is driving fast ...
  6. I have had many bikes with issues at the ignition switch come to my shop and after checking the current load on the switch ..At least in my opinion either the switch was being over loaded either by a device or bad connection .
  7. This one time when all the years experience on the job comes right out to do the job right ...GOD'S hand was right there along side of your experience to make the day end well
  8. Interesting to see assembly of the tire ...I am more familiar withe Dunlop tires , only thing I have found is to buy the higher grade of the Dunlop ..the Elite series ....I got 28000 miles on the Elite series on my XV1100 Virago , only thing they are expensive ...Now that I have switched to 83 venture 1200 I am not sure what make of tire I will be running in 2022
  9. Good to hear that it is going well ...Faith brings hope
  10. Had a friend who bought custom air filters for a 1982 Virago 750 , and it ran terrible after ...He asked for help , and I did mention that his fuel / mixture was off ...He said that I had to prove it ...I wrapped electrical tape around half the air filter screen and the engine went to a perfect idle and ran great .
  11. On the thought of using a cargo van as a camper has become very popular here in Manitoba ...I have my name on the list at local salvage yards for one now ...There has been several made or assembled out here , what is nice about them the back end has a good brake setup. Then add a hitch , one ton chassis works the best ...Guys here have pulling the gear set out of the differential along with power train , adding a brake cylinder to operate the rear brakes ..Some of the guys have installed slide outs and raised the roof about 14 inches with windows , for more room when you reach your favorite spot ...Here in Manitoba we have to have Safe Vehicle inspection Certificate done .....Any 4 wheel drive with a 5.7 Litre engine will pull that unit

I started this business with nothing but a small tool box in 1974 . ...My current cost of operation is about $65.00 per hour and that is without paying myself ...Seeing most jobs are anywhere from 16 to 25 feet up on / in a scissor lift ...Here in Manitoba liability insurance and work mans compensation have a crazy cost ...Off the 2 offers to purchase with drew their offers when they heard of the insurance cost ...I thought of selling off the larger service contracts , ...I need to find someone who has clearance under the Emergency Service Act ...It took me a while to get the clearance
  13. I have been in so many difficult times injuries and sickness ...GOD has been there each time and pulled me through all of them .....Life is a gift , and when I hear about people in difficult times , sickness or injury I think of the book of Matthew in the Bible ..JESUS says he wants us to come to him for help in time of need and ask for healing when someone is ill , and when we pray we are to believe that our prayers will be answered ..Faith brings Hope and let us all keep on praying for Don .......It has been great for to log into this site and I get the feeling all of us are caring people .....
  14. What I found that the passenger grabbing you from behind and hanging on to you and the screaming did not help the hole event either ...I have been on many race track and cross country events on a YZ250 Yamaha ,360 Kawasaki , and the oval flat track with 500cc ... Also 350 cubic 600 hp chev on flat 1/2 mile track running 15% nitro methane and 85% AV gas many a time with speeds over 100 mile per hour ...Still no matter how much or often you do these things , and there can be one time that what ever you know or have done things , will turn out different ..I retired from racing in 1980 and have not looked back and do not want to do any of that again

I understand that ...But I have all security clearance to work in Police Stations and I am registered with Door Regulations Standards and Border Crossings and have been since 1980 ...Much of my work is 35 miles from our little City and some has been 500 miles away ..If add a surcharge of fuel to invoice for residential work I get reaction and not always good ..I have gone from a 3 employee company to one part time .. A lot of my residential work is a fill in between commercial work ...When Government work comes up my name is on the list , the only way out of this for me is to pull the pin so to speak and quit .. At 75 I am considering selling the company only thing my account says no because the tax will take more than half of sale price ...Our son was going to take over the company but he passed in 2020
  16. I visited one of the larger tire supply dealers to install 2 new tires on the front of my car ..I had some time so walked the show room floor and took a close look at some of the tires ..Most time you tell by a seam or line on the sidewall of a tire weather it is a recap or not ....After that incident for us there I have been asking dealers that same question about recap tires ...I do know there was change in some of the truck inspections regulations on tires here in Manitoba ..
  17. What I want to add to story is that if you drop your throttle to dead or zero you are not going to make it ...The bike simply won't handle , try this sometime when you have room on the road to do this ......
  18. It took us a couple of days to settle down ..I have been riding on the road ways since 1964 and there have been times when there is no time to think about what to do and this was one of them ...It was matter of doing and not thinking .

  20. 3 years ago my wife and I riding the trans Canada highway west of Winnipeg Manitoba ... We had just come from a short holiday from a small resort riding at about 65 miles per hour , when we came up to a small car following a Semi , I noticed the truck was slowing down . A large part of a tire from the rear of the trailer came up and bounced off the car and headed right for lane to the left ..A second later a large or most of the tire came and up and hit the car and came right at us .. My wife began to scream and grabbed me from behind ... The pulled the bike to a hard left and at that time I had steered at the first piece of tire ...I pulled the bike to a hard right to avoid hitting the part of the tire on the road , as I managed to miss that part of the tire on the road ...The second and larger part of the tire hit my right leg , I hard a hard time keeping the bike upright ...At that time I noticed I was heading to side of the semi trailer , I pulled the bike to hard left barely missing the Semi , but was able to avoid a collision . All this at 65 miles per hour , ride a mile and pulled into a gas station , there was some blood coming from my right leg ..I felt no pain for a bout a hour , and I had to work to keep myself calm at that point ..It took a while for my leg to heal ....I told this story at a small gathering a week later , and everyone thought that I was blowing smoke ..I noticed a guy standing about 5 feet to my right , he came over to where we were standing and said to me were you on that bike that day , we were in that small car... There is more to the story , but not important ..

I service garage doors , my tools , parts and small ladder would be in the trailer . I would build the trailer with aluminum tubing and 1/8 inch aluminum plate floor ...I have hitch that is built for the 83 XVZ1200

Our gasoline prices at pump ...$7.11 gallon ....Retirement is starting to look better ..I have burning $568.80 every 4 weeks . I have had to add 35% to fuel costs on a standard service call ...The options are (1) retirement (2) build a trailer for my VXZ1200 , because no one is willing to pay for extra fuel costs added to the cost of a service call
  23. To me this site feels more real , and a better connection with people .....If this site was not here I would miss it .
  24. Would that work like a multi carb manifold setup ?
