  1. I am still both envious and frustrated with the 1st gen handle bars. Those were great. The frustration comes in because Yamaha went the cheap route and designed them out of the bike.
  2. Merry Christmas everyone. Get out and ride. I hope everyone gets to enjoy time family and friends.
  3. Even when I was a kid (16 - 17) I test with high Cholesterol. In the 300+ range as a total number. BP has never been a problem. Told the Dr what I was eating and he said to eliminate the eggs and to stop eating red meat. If I did eat red meat to cut off all the fat. Eat more poultry. I did this for 10 years or so and my Cholesterol level barely went below 300 in that time. I was working crazy hours in my late 20's running my own IT business 75+ hours. I stopped all of the 'special' diet stuff. Started eating eggs again and when my family started the whole egg white thing I would eat their yolks. I felt great at that time. In my late 30's I started to travel about 60 - 70% of my time for work. I packed on the lbs. Went from ~210 up to 285. This was my own fault, Restaurant portions were ridiculously large but I had this internal guilt of not finishing my food. I got this from when I was a kid as there were times when we didn't know if we would have food the next day. I worked hard to change this mentality the last year or so and am back to 230 and still working to drop more. the biggest item for me has been portion control not limiting the variety or types of food I eat but the quantity I eat. This is still hard when I travel as Keeping food in a hotel is not the easiest thing. I just box up the left overs. even when traveling. I actually find myself giving the food away to homeless more often than not. Win win. One thing I haven't changed though is I still eat eggs frequently and I eat red meat including the fat. Last year I had my 1st Cholesterol test in ages. It was ~280 but the Dr said I had nearly a 3.5:1 ratio of good vs bad Cholesterol which is a good thing. I didn't know the difference but as he described it the HDL levels are the grease that helps the body run well. He said the fat of beef and pork at actually contributing factors to HDL and the medical community only began to realize this in the last 15 years or so. He said the HDL works like grease in the blood system to help prevent blockage and clotting of the arteries. He's the one who told me to keep doing what I was doing. I'm also a big fan of open grazed beef. I go in every year with a buddy and we buy a steer or heifer. He is afraid of organ meat so I always keep the liver and the heart for myself. Love liver and onions. We will keep doing this too. We just took 'T-Bone' to the butcher as our freezer is a little low. On the other stuff: I like sauerkraut but haven't had it in years. I avoid margarine and stick to pure butters when at all possible. I always get eel when I go out for sushi. I eat a lot of cheeses and yes I still eat a lot of poultry. I never knew anything about K2 until I read this. It's something to keep in mind now that I'm getting older.
  4. That's pretty cool. The orange trees I've seen here in Houston produce a pretty bitter fruit. Most of the home owners stay away from them or only use them for the zest of the peel. The lemon trees though are great. Unfortunately where I live out lot is too small for any type of ground garden. Our back yard has a pool and a gazebo. add bushes and a few trees and it's packed. Been naggin the wife to get somewhere where we can have some land but the $$$ is ridiculous.
  5. 39 degrees when I left the house this morning. 41 when I got to the office. Love the heated seat and grips.
  6. I couldn't get the video her either. Maybe the link to your tiktok. That's where I saw it and it looks fantastic.
  7. While I can't help with the Charlotte area, the last 2 years I owned my '06 I had to go to an independent shop. All the dealers here will not work on a bike that is older than 10 years.
  8. PUC has pretty much moved on from motorcycles to electric bikes. He has a YouTube Channel called PUC PUC.
  9. Lowest I've ridden is -5, I was 17 in northern Ohio. Now nearly 40 years later in TX, 25 on the '06 Black Cherry and 28 on the SVTC. The SVTC was far more comfortable with the heated seats and grips. I could go much lower on the SVTC if I had chaps to throw on. Layer up.
  10. hope everyone had a great Thanksgiving day with many more great days to come.
  11. Don't let this sway you as a lot of complaints were around the GPS and people said they could not get more than 5 way points. Working with several people we were able to get this narrowed down to the file format for the upload to the bike. We've got a full write up here. There are spots of people who have had varying issues from heat complaints to starters to the brake switch (recall for this). My experience has been great outside of the GPS which is now resolved in my opinion. I ride with a lot of different people with different bikes. They all have had some issues with their new bikes they did not expect.
  12. Wow, This whole 'find the relay' sucks. I grew up in a rural area of Northern Ohio but we could drive an hour to some pretty big areas. Live in the city (My wife is from Long Island) and I wish every day we lived where it was more quiet - literally. I think I'm going deaf due to all the noise. The hassle of living in a rural area for supplies is real but relays should be easily obtained. Heck they're even in a lot of tractors and other farm equipment. Hope you get it fixed soon.
  13. Reminds me of a Boy Scout Video I saw a while back. Showed a boy with a VR headset walking through the woods and then cuts to a BSA troop actually hiking through the woods.
  14. There's a reason I love south TX. After living in and around the snowbelt of northern OH I'm glad that I don't see S*** but 1 or twice every few years. Riding year 'round and lovin' it.
  15. I was at 13K on the factory (Bridgestone) rear and replace it with another Bridgestone that will get about 13K on it. On my Gen 2 I was lucky to get 6 - 7 on any rear tire so I went Darkside. There is a good chance I will go Dark with the next Tire on the SVTC.
  16. I still need gloves. Just checked Viking and they are sold out. Was at the Rally in Galveston over the weekend and no one had a size to fit me. I guess Thick hands and stubby fingers don't fit the style for makers any more.
  17. Wow if you were closer to Texas I would say it was my old bike. The ignition on that when I sold it was . . . Let's just say 'sensitive' on how it was handled.
  18. @dragonstorm You're setup almost identical to me except I have the faster red one 😉. I too have 24000 miles and would have much more if not for COVID putting me in a work from home state. I've not had any issues. I'm in Houston and can tell you in the summer the heat on the top of my thigh from the sun is more than the engine heat. I just put the lower deflectors on a couple of weeks ago and have noticed only a marginal change in the lower heat. I have a thermal temperature gun that I should put on it. Maybe next week if I remember. I would like to know what you did for the wireless charging though and I am looking at the Clearview shield. I'm 5'7 on a good day. The bike is balanced very well and rides/maneuvers great.
  19. Don't think you're nuts at all. When I had bikes in northern Ohio I always tried to go for a short ride every couple of weeks, mainly because I needed the therapy 😀. Pick a day where it's somewhat sunny (it was NE Ohio so few and far between in the winter) dress warm and go ride. When I was in HS it was the only form of transportation I had so I rode snow or shine. Never had problems with the bikes. Here in SE Texas I have found the hard way that my truck is affected by not running. I had a 2003 F150 and because I ride all the time it sits, only about 3000 miles a year are put on it. It developed a leak at the rear main seal. My mechanic son told me it was probably because it sits so much. Got a buddy who has his own auto shop, said the same. A couple of other mechanics I've ridden with agree. So 4 - 5 mechanics that basically don't know each other all agree. Can't argue too much with that assessment. That truck now has ~160K mi on it and I just sold it to my son who will fix the leak and drive it as a work truck.
  20. I didn't buy the SVTC for the GPS although I found it works very well with a GPX 1.1 formatted file. A few features like automatically bypassing way points or shaping points would be a desired update. I used the GPS multiple times now with 15 + way points. You just have to be very accurate on your placements. Don't put them in fields like I have a tendency to do 🤣
  21. Go get the add in called IE Tab. Work in a Law Firm and many courts around the country are so far behind it's insane. This works very well. 127.0.0.1 is the local loop back for testing basic IP communication using a virtual NIC. Ping is nothing more than a 'Hello are you there?" tool. In Windows it does not open a back door. I have asked everyone who as ever told me about this to prove it. No one has succeeded yet. Any basic Windows Firewall configuration will return a proxy not found with any other tool than ping. Hacking attempt through power shell, C Shell and C Sharp have all failed. The only time you could gain access to 127.0.0.1 was with Windows 95 A. It was patched in a week. Linux, which is at the core of MAC OS, on the other hand, it can be configured so that it can be accessible using the # Shell environment. Google it if you want more info. MACs and iPhones are getting better with their security but there is a reason Apple is patching every couple of weeks. Their old policy was security through obscurity. No on would attack their systems as the market share was to low to make it worth while. Now that iPhones have the lions share of the telecom market and iPads are the predominant tablet you are seeing them attacked more. Back in ~2008 during the big Apple show of the year Apple wanted to prove they were secure offering several thousand $$$ to the first 'hacker' to get by their security. One guy did it in 2 minutes. He did the same thing for 4 years running using the same hack. The 5th year Apple banned him from the competition. iPhones are a necessity for me at work as the Lawyers love them. I like them but could use anything. MACs are a PIA in a large scale windows network environment. They require special setups to be truly secure including the use of NIC (MAC address) level security and reservations. Too much effort when Certificate Authentication for Hardware is simple with Windows. Heck it's even easier to use Hardware Certificates on printers today than to secure a MAC on a corporate network.
