Does eating my dinner get me preference in the random number generator????? I forgot about that detail. Now I need a new plan.........

So I guess I will have to pack some extra relays to quick hook up to run all of the lighting when I have TWO trailers to bring home. I'll look like a train going down the road. That nice new shiny one that I am going to win, will make a nice caboose. I just have to rig a ball on the back of my current trailer.

starter motor replacement
Flyinfool replied to starleaf's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
Yup thats the noise, sounds like someone inside the engine with a hammer trying to get out. The gears of the starter gear never wears out, it is the bearing surface that the starter clutch runs on that goes bad. The stock system with the 3 rollers is not the best. There is a member here that can upgrade that to an 18 roller setup that will last forever. Something to store in the memory bank for the next time you have to service the starter clutch. -
I do not think it the shims that are wearing. It is other components in the valve system that are wearing and you have to change the shims to get all of the clearances back to where they should be. On my high mileage parts motor all of the shims still look brand new.

Stator Replacement Procedure
Flyinfool replied to camos's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
I did my starter cluch on the center stand and only lost a few drops of oil. Now I get to do it again to replace the stator. -
Can I opt out of the banquette? I can only get 2 vacation days so I will be headed home on Tuesday.

There was no choice of zero. Some on this forum have no bike. As for me I never WON a bike either........

You mean this tool? http://www.venturerider.org/classifieds/showproduct.php?product=4475&title=valve-shim-tool&cat=10

That may be my next acquisition, except in 50AE. I have 22, 380, 9mm, 357, 40, 44, 45, handguns, I like them all, they each have their purpose.

I have not seen a 1st gen that is well lit yet, so I am flying as blind as you are. I have over 1,000 LEDs sitting in a box looking for a home. I already have 168 LEDs on the back and I haven't even started yet. The LEOs around here are real picky about lights, so I will have "mostly" red on the back half of the bike and "mostly" yellow on the front half.

This one on Ebay is local to me, If you give me a max dollar that you want to spend I can go in and make that cash offer for you. If they let it go for that, I will then ship it to you. I agree, it is pretty pricy as listed. PM me to work out the details if you are interested.

As mentioned if the cut the strap the helmet is no use to anyone. The helmet manufacturers will not sell a new replacement strap or other safety related parts. Or at least Shoi will not, I tried, they said no way.

Never go by color alone. Loctite has over 50 formulations and only 7 colors. You want #242 Loctite, which does happen to be blue.

I know that in 2 months when I go to start the bike I will pay for this, but my Yuasa that was in the bike when I bought it 6 years ago was still starting fine last fall. Ok I'll start battery shopping now..........

I don't know if Yamaha does it also, but on the machines built where I work, if a part is changed to improve function but is still fully interchangeable with older equipment, the part number does not change. So in our case if we had reduced spring pressure to fix an issue and that same fix would help older machines we would not change the number but might put out a bulletin recommending that that part be replaced with a new part if any service was ever done in that area.

Someone Up There Does NOT Want Me to Have a Hitch
Flyinfool replied to luke000's topic in Trailer Talk
It has only been taught and learned if it is remembered the next time it comes up. :stirthepot: -
ONLY 119 LEDs. I have 168 installed and I have not even started. I have 1300 more LEDs looking for a new home.

Someone Up There Does NOT Want Me to Have a Hitch
Flyinfool replied to luke000's topic in Trailer Talk
The hitch from an 83 will not fit on an 86. I remember that add all of the hitch parts were clearly shown in the add. They would not be hard to fab if you had a set to copy. It would take a while to try to figure out the dimensions and weird angles just by measuring up the bike. Before I mounted mine up I was considering making a complete hitch setup by copying the Markland one that I had. I decided it would be to much of a PITA and cost to make the fixtures to be able to weld everything at the correct angles.
