  1. The riding it up is not the hard part, it is the two 90° turns on the way up. No one ever said a 1st gen handled good in tight slow quarters. But where there is a will there is a way. Dang it anyhow, Now you got me thinking on this one.
  2. I tried that once with an old washer and dryer that still worked. After they sat for a month with no takers I put a sign on them for $25 each, now that they had value they were gone overnight.
  3. Down is the easy part........... But now that you mention it, maybe next winter I can bring the bike into the basement to tear it down for a repaint. The bike weighs a lot less than any of the machines I have down there.....
  4. Don, Look at the bright side, At this time last year you were getting out the lawnmower........
  5. I have a plan....... It is all 1.5 x 1/8 Aluminum angle and aluminum expanded metal floor. Approx weight will be 4 lbs.
  6. The stock tongue is a little short. Too short of a tongue will cause sway at higher speeds. There are a few that have had no sway issues, but most have stretched the tongue for better handling.
  7. Lucky you! I would love to do that. Is your wife single????
  8. DOHhhh!!!! Now I have to buy more to counter the more that you bought to counter the more that I bought to counter the more that you bought to counter the more that I bought.......... Yer gonna hurt my poor little head trying to figure this out..... :starz:. Maybe I should make my brother buy some. He only knows 1 person with a bike to pull it, he always wins at raffles......
  9. That should work fine as a no welding way to do it. I like that cooler rack, I'm gonna steal the design for mine.......
  10. Om the 2nd gen it is pretty much just plug in and ad a power and ground connection. It is recommended to add a switch to be able to turn off the light for starting. Without the switch if the voltage drops to 10V while cranking, there is a protection circuit built into the HID that will turn it off requiring you to shut off the bike and restart.
  11. Well they say bad luck comes in 3's. You should be good to go now. Get well quick.
  12. Since you are from TX you must define cold. Some southerners think that 50 is frigid.... My 88 starts just fine down to 0*F (never tried it colder cuz then I don't start). When it is that cold It needs about half choke for the first mile. Warmer weather I can take off the choke as soon as I get moving.
  13. Tom, You are having an issue. Go eat 3 ice creams, calm down, and call me in the morning.
  14. 12?????? I guess I need more tickets.......again......
  15. Your best bet might be to get some pizza and ice cream and post a MD at your house. Or this might be a good start http://www.venturerider.org/forum/showthread.php?t=74431
  16. Thanks all. I may be getting older, but I refuse to grow up.
  17. That looks like the same one that I have, Mine has been flawless for 2 years now.
  18. A few things 12,000K will be very purple and will not make a lot of light. It is more to look cool. Your best bet is a 4,000K to 6,000K if what you want is light to see at night. 4000 is slightly yellow, similar to a halogen and 6000 is slightly blue. They are both mainly white. I how have 5 HID on my vehicles and they are all 6,000K. . You do not want a Halogen High beam. It defeats the whole purpose of having a bright HID light in the first place. You want to get a BI-Xenon so that you have HID for both hi and low beam. . You must remove or disable the RLU. There is a writeup from an 88 on how to do this, it wont be exact for your 83 but it will be close. If you do not do this mod the RLU wil keep switching between hi and low beam at a very fast rate till it burns something out. It is not hard to do, but it is time consuming. . It is a good idea to have the HID on a separate headlight switch. If you do not have a seperate switch then when you turn the key on the HID will light, as soon as you hit the starter, the HID will go off and then have to relight. The starter switch cuts out the headlight to give full battery power to the starter. All of this is well worth the effort, the difference in light output is huge.
  19. A rectifier is just 1 or more diodes. In this case, because it is 3 phase AC it is 6 diodes. A typical rectifier diode will only drop about 0.6V each. Because in this case you are always using 2 at a time you will get a 1.2V drop from the AC to DC. There are different types of diodes that can be used with different characteristics, I am not sure which type are being used in our RRs, but the voltage drop will not be much different. So the rectifier just changes the AC into DC with just a very small voltage drop. It is the regulator part that knocks the voltage down to the 14 that we want.
  20. I think more details are required here..........
  21. All good things come to those who wait........ Nice JOB...... Let the parties begin
  22. Another option is to hit one session of therapy to learn what the proper exercises are. Then go nutz at home. The big difference is that you will stop bending it when it hurts, the therapist will go a little farther than that. But they know how much farther to go without damaging anything. Sounds good so far, I wish you all the luck in whatever comes your way.
  23. If no one ever buys a new one then there will be no used ones to buy later. If you are planning on keeping it a long time then it is not as bad to get new just so that you are not dealing with anyone else's problems. I bought my truck new 17 years ago but I know it was broken in correctly and it now has 300K miles. I could have got a 1 or 2 year old truck but I would not know if it was broke in right. the breaking does not show up till much later in a vehicals life. I know people that get a new vehicle every 3 years. They do not worry about proper break in because they will not have it long enough for it to be an issue. Sometimes you can get a better deal by financing it even if you have the cash. Some dealers get a commission on the financing some times there are other financing incentives to the dealer and will share that with you in the form of a lower purchase price. You can always pay the loan off a week later. Don't be afraid to make an offer and then turn around and walk out the door telling them that you are driving to XYZ dealership to see if they will take your offer.
  24. Back in the day I used to stand my golf bag up on the back seat and bungee it in place. It may look funny but it got the job done. Just watch your height clearance if you go thru a drive thru.
  25. I would start by getting rid of that old gas. Even though I store my bike with Seafoam and Stabil, my bike still runs like crap till I get all of last years gas out of it and get that first fresh tank in there. I give it another shot of Seafoam in that first tank just to help clean things up. You do not want to adjust the engine to run best on stale gas.
