Someone once said , “Any darn fool can make something complex; it takes a genius to make something simple".. To this arcane expression I would like to add - "yeaa,, but it takes a Flying Fool to make either of them work"!!!

Yea Bongo,, where's dem pictures?? Now wait just a flea scratching, ice melting minute here ya bunch of elbow's,, for crying out loud - been working hard on a new piece of legislation to turn in for approval,, ears been ringing like an ol rotary phone and now I find out why!!!! How soon ya'll forget who got cha snow free all the way into the new year!!!!!!! Sayyy,, you gangsters wanna peek at whats coming to North America in the form of some new legislation? What the beans,, may as well take a peek,, probably gonna take Bongo forever to get those pics up!!
-
GOOD ADVICE!! Probably wanna cover your backside by prefacing it with "Skid says" though.. Been doing this with Tippy when questionable issues come up, alternating it back and forth between Skid and several of my other close buddies here on VR so no one takes the blame for everything, and its remarkable how much trouble I have stayed out of the last couple years!!

Indeed Blue - some pretty interesting vids there - THANKS!! Heyyyy,, just had a thought go ripping thru my bean,, lets encourage em to get one of those Honda F6b Wing things you guys,,, the sport bike version of a Wing!!! I dont think we have anyone on VR who owns one of them/have yet to see one on the road (dont have to add a bunch of bucks to make it "one of a kind") AND it has GOT to be worthy - being a Honda and all!! Speaking of unique bikes,, anyone heard from Larry since he got his new ripper (probably aint shut it off since he got it home)?? Have been watching some short vids on the "tube" of people tearing it up on those babies - looks like FUN!!

Good lookin piece of equipment Don,, reading that info made me think,, I wonder what kind of interest there would be in having a higher dollar camera like that as the "Grand Prize" for the International drawing.. Easy to ship or transport,, something anyone could use.. I won a camera at Vogel couple years back - sure was a lot of :sign green with envin the crowd down there ,, even heard some chat of hanging the guys who showed Tip and I to the campground cause ol Puc happened to win:big-grin-emoticon: There I go,, thinking summer again:stirthepot:

How to instal a tire with zip ties I would have never thought of this.
cowpuc replied to tufftom4's topic in Watering Hole
Welcome on the pics Zag.. I just watch where the tool is laying, set it on the tire, press down and work it under the edge a little at a time.. That pic of the press being all the way in is just for show,, normally you dont have to go in that deep to break the bead, hold it out a little and the tire will fold around the edge of the press face - press down and they pop right off.. Havent had any issues with marking at all but you do have to be careful.. Another note, I used to cut strips of plastic from used quart jugs of oil to slide between the spoons and the rim when spooning em on to protect the surface your talking about.. I suppose a person could take some of that same material and make a quick protector out of it when using the press too but if you watch what your doing it really isnt necessary... GOOD EYE JAG!! -

Let it sit in the sun for a while or heat it somehow and its amazing how flexible they become!! The worst tires I have seen are Michilens cause of the hard rubber they use in manufacturing (trying to make em last longer) and even they become flexible when warmed up real good.. I use my kersonene torpedo heater sometimes to heat em up if the sun isnt shining.. Besides,, those tie wraps have an amazing amount of strength,, seems like you could wrap the tie wrap, stand with you feet on the edge of the bead with the wrap between your feet, step down while you pull up,, seems like that would close the gap.. -

He's guilty all right Silvr,, he just didnt recognize himself in there cause no one said "Mr. Troublemaker" making it a proper name... -

If you take a couple short pieces of 2x4 and use them to prop open the tire (if I am home and swapping tires, I have some card board spacers I use to do this BUT 2x4's work as well - c pic), then lay the tire in the sunshine as your taking the bike apart (you can use a heater too), when your ready to install it the tire will now be expanded and should pop right on the bead... ABSOLUTELY!!!! I carry a 16 inch set of channel locks (favorite tool of all times) in the maintenance dept on Tweeks and, if I use a fair amount of that black tire mounting lube stuff when I install the tire, can sometimes pop em loose with even them!! -
I am SOOOOO there compadre!!! Last time I was there was daughters graduation at Carnegie Hall,,, look familiar?

The kids kinda filled in for Santee around this place this year,, I think I may have ticked the rascal off somehow cause there was no new bike setting in the garage this year.. Anyway,, those youngens,, they took a more health concious approach to giving and bought us a Juicer thingy.. Been having lots of fun playing with it.. I almost like the left over squishy stuff in the disposal tank as much as the juice!!!! Special note to Santee,,, I am now able to mass produce lemonaide as life hands me lemons - nahhh nah deee boo boo!!! PS ya old coot - I am holding Rudy ransom for next Christmas,, will let cha know my demands in 300 days!!!!!

Like soooo many of you other varmints, I have used a lot of methods for breaking the bead on these things.. Gotta say,, while back I was goofing around at Harbor and noticed this little gem on sale.. Think it cost all of 15 bucks when I finally carried it out the door and it is HANDY!! Works perfect!! Always intended to figure out a way to incorporate into my touring package,,, Tip wont share her "Clothing/cosmetics Department" (the trunk) but I am still working on it!! -

My daughter went to Med School in Manhatten (Cornell - corner of 1st and 68th on the east side of MANhatten) and I LOVED visiting her and cruising the city!! THAT PLACE IS A MAD HOUSE traffic wise,, as much of a fun challenge as any back road America I have ever ridden!! BUT, because of the grid NYC uses in traffic control - it is amazingly easy to get where ya wanna go! Actually, I have ALWAYS wanted to take a moped back to NYC and buzz around - sooo much to see and do and it is SO ripe for the picken on a lil moped (big bike is all most as much fun - just not as easy to cut traffic on) that ya dont mind gettin stolen LOL!! I think it would also be fun to dress up like a bag lady and camp out under the Brooklyn Bridge for a night!! Sorry Red1 - didnt mean to go off on ya there... If you decide to ride the bike in, there are some road secrets that work really good.. NYC is laid out like a grid of one way roads.. I would suggest taking the Washington Bridge across to the East side of Manhatten, jump on the FDR on the east side, follow it down to the bottom of Manhatten, go up the center of Manhatten on any of the main roads, going north, if you get caught in unmerciful traffic (you will), jump on a one way cross road, say thru China town,, go to the next one way north,, go up and catch the next cross road going the other way... If you keep in mind that you are riding a grid loaded with cars and those cars are no more than obstacles on an obstacle course AND you have the time to play - it is a RIOT!! Dont miss Times Square at night and Central Park in the day light!! NOT riding the bike and using the subway was a much bigger hassle for me,, I always took my daughter when we traveled those puppies - much smarter than I.. If you end up parking outside of the city and taking a train in,, unless you have lots of xtra cash for Taxis - PLAN on walking A LOT!! The subways will get you in general areas but you WILL do a TON of walking if you wanna see anything.. Go to Rodney Dangerfields Club down by Times Square (no idea of address - found it by accident,, stumbled in and heard some of the most AWESOME Blues music stuff you ever did hear/see).. Be sure to eat lots of NYC Hot Dogs from the street vendors.. MY GOSH THAT PLACE IS AWESOME!! I LOVE China Town and how genuine city dirty it was,, stinky fish markets with stuff you can only get in NYC - dried fish flesh,, alive fish in tanks, dead ones in racks,, real chinese who cant speak english trying to sell ya watches, vendor after vendor with stuff to sell - NEVER pay asking price... WHAT A BLAST!!! Some of the sky scrapers you can sneak up in and make it to the roofs and view the city,, others - like the big gold one owned by Donny Trump you will get kicked out of as soon as ya walk in the door LOL... Can ya tell I am envious Red? May help if you study the sattelite map of NYC just to get a feel for the road layout (I did it cold turkey and it took me a few times to figure out how really nicely they have the "grid" laid out) being a first time in and all that.. I gotta tell ya,, I had WAYYYY more trouble navigating Jersey (terrible signage and road layout made NO sense) than I ever did in NYC!! Same as traveling around Elk Grove in Sacramento California (where the girls are now) - those roads out there make NO sense as far as layout goes.. Really weird angles and corners - a LOT harder to figure out than NYC!!! Completely different adventure!!! At any rate,, HAVE FUN EXPLORING!! Oh yea,, Jersey has WAY cheaper motels than you will find on the Island, GET GAS BEFORE GOING ON THE ISLAND, you can legally park between the cars perpendically, the signs that say "NO STANDING" mean "NO PARKING" (their parking tickets arent cheap and they WILL tow your bike), bathrooms are a rarity on the Island - when you see one use it!!! Puc

+1 and then theres the most famous Iconic quote of em all Bongo - given to us by my hero - Red Green = "I'm a man, but I can change, if I have to,, I guess" NOT!!!! Be it ever so humble,, sure nuff sounds like home!!! Only I married this wonderful wonderful wife who spent many many years perfecting the art of couponing - that women saved us more money on clothes/food in raising these 4 youngens it is AMAZING!! Now that they are grown, she has expanded her horizons into supporting my TES (isnt that funny how TES could be an abreviation for testosterone:178:) ... She is HOOKED on Menards and their "freebie" coupon stuff.. Drill bits (my favorite - they got good drill bits and I will NEVER have to sharpen another one as long as I live), wipers, screw driver bit kits, open end wrenches, deck wash, car wash and on and on all brand new,, like owning a hardware store I tell ya - wayyyyyyyyyy cool women that Tippy is!!
-
Well put Mr. Cudaaaaa!! There is a Cycles Only campground up in Northern Mich called "Cycle-Moore".. Really really neat place to hang out and AWESOME riding area!! Anyway,, every year they have a variety of Clubs come thru - NOT JUST A HARLEY PLACE!! Was up there a couple years ago and some kind of Beemer rally was happening.. I was shocked at the number of folks who I chatted with that didnt even wince while saying couple thou to fix my ABS, couple thou to straighten out some driveshaft issues... In all fairness, lots of em hanging around with over 200k miles on em, even a couple with 300k too,,, like you said,, sweet bike but not so sure about the riding on a budget side of things - price per mile can get out of hand real quickly!! And,, that having your bike sitting in a shop over the summer would NEVER fly!!!
