  1. I don't know Bob and have not been on this web-site for quite some time. It is very unfortunate to hear of his accident. My prayers go out to Bob for a speedy and full recovery, to his family, and the doctors and nurses attending Bob.
  2. Unfortunately the rally is scheduled in the middle of plant shutdown and I will be working. Depending on which shift I am on (don't know this yet) I would like to come out for the day or an evening. I will let you know when I find out which probably will not be until the week before and hopefully my daughter and I will come down and meet up with some people. It is only about an hours ride for me to Kitchener. Doug

  6. I use the Rotella T 15w40 oil in my 1984VR. It has worked well for me and it is a diesel oil. Rotella T 15w40 has very good shear stability.
  7. Just ordered Ride Like a Pro V. Looking forward to receiving it, viewing and practicing when weather permits. Would never have known about it except for this website.   8. At one time I worked for Shell Canada in lubricant research. Because motorcycles cycle their motor oil, in most cases, through the transmission, they require an oil that is very shear stable. If the oil is not shear stable you will not get the hydrodynamic protection from the oil as it will shear out of grade. Most passenger car engine oil is not shear stable. If you changed your oil frequently you could still use a passenger car oil (maybe every 1500 miles depending on driving conditions). Synthetics is another issue. There is a lot of info on this including postings on this site in the past.
  9. Many imigrants come to our country and want to change it to be like their country. They forget that there was a reason that they left their home country. While I am so greatful to be living in Canada and next door to the United States I recognize that part of what makes these two countries great is tolerance. However, sometimes this tolerance goes too far and we end up standing for nothing. Rest assured and unfortunately if I was in many other countries in the world my beliefs would not be met with near the tolerance that their beliefs are met with here.
  10. I like: the look, great handling at speed, not expensive, exhaust is quiet so I can come home in the middle of the night and not wake up the whole neighborhood.(although sometimes it would be nice to make a lot of rumble).
  11. Thanks for the info. I will buy the video in the very near future. As a new rider and this being my first bike I had trouble handling the bike at low speeds. I practiced last year and improved a great deal but feel I still have much room to improve. I watched Jerry P's video but was not sure if I would need to buy the whole set or could just start with #V. Again thanks. I have read many comments on this web site and have to agree that the information and help available here is just tremendous!

  13. Kevin, could be as simple as a bad plug. Maybe the casing ion the plug got cracked during or before installation. Also is the gap correct on the plugs. Also check the connections of the plug wires. It seems to me if it was running well before this probably has something to do with what has been done to it lately, so check all vacuum lines or anything else that was disturbed during the tune up.   15. While the snow piles up in the driveway, all I can do is think about the maintenance I will do on the 84 Venture in about a month when I can get near the shed again. Last year, among other things I bled all the brakes and some foul looking fluid came out. It looked like on the front forks there was a bleeder for the brakes and a secondary bleeder for the shocks. I have not noticed any fluid on the top part of the shocks so I am not thinking that the seals are leaking. Is it possible for fluid to leak from the front brakes into the shock. Are these two systems linked or how do they work? I was also going to bleed the clutch this year. Is the slave cylinder hard to get at for bleeding? Hope the people in the south are enjoying riding. It will be at least a month before we can ride in southern Ontario.
