  1. No I don't mean road rage or Anti-Government speech. I just changed out my Final drive (aka pumpkin) to a set of V-max gears from Sportmax. Its been raining since I finished so I haven't had a chance for a test ride. But one thing that I have noticed is that the new Pumpkin seems to have about twice the backlash as the factory gears. When I ordered the part I did ask John, the owner of Sportmax, about the backlash and he stated that it would be set to factory spec. I felt like my factory set had a little to much, wasn't sure thought. Now I know that there are several parts of the drive train that contribute to the total amout backlash, and too little backlash is a recipe for problems (heat, gearwear, gearwhine and owner whine). So here's my questions to those who know? 1 - Can you measure the total amount of lash at the tire? ie Mark the tire tread, in gear, measure the total free play. 2 - If so how much free play should there be? Mine measure about two inches with the V-max setup. 3 - Could my factory set of gears been too tight and causing some of the gear whine? I have had the clutch basket changed once with no real good results. I should add that John at Sportmax was very nice and went out of his way to get me the parts quickly. So far he gets an A+ for service.
  2. Today is my first day off for the Holidays, next week my last 3 days of vacation for this year stretches my time off to 11 days, then Jan 4 Charlene goes into the hospital for her surgery and I start 2 more weeks of vacation for 2010, but most of it will be spent at the hospital with her. I am scheduled to go back to work on Jan 18,2010 if all goes according to plan, if not I have one more week of vacation I can take for 2010. All total I will be semi-retired for 25 days total. First time I have ever been off that long while holding a job..............hope my job is still there when I go back......
  3. Well I did my part to try to make the roads safer for all of us. I filled all 3 of my deer tags 3 total. How did everyone else do in the hunting season this year?
  4. Hey Boss, Is there a way to include a separate total number of Supporting Members in the Mini Stats area? I'm always curious as to how many we have & would enjoy watching THAT number increase rather than the false number that now reaches almost 8400.

    Insurance

I know there are several threads on this but just wanted all you folks down south and those here in Canada that still have private insurance to feel good about your insurance rates. I just got my renewal notice for the scoot... 1 million 3rd party liability Underinsured motorist protection $1,000 collision deductible $500 comprehensive deductible Vehicle licence fee Total for one year = $2,071 (this has gone down since last time) Now here's the kicker... I have a clean driving/insurance record which means I get a whopping discount. If I did not, and if I had to pay the full rate, I'd be paying..... $4,162.00 ya'll feelin better???
  6. Here are a few things I have tallied up so far in regards to Vogel 2009. Total number of bikes..........47 Total attendees.................79 Number of bikes trailered.......7 States represented..............15 Other countries represented......1 Canada Total monies raised at Tail of the Dragon IV @ Vogel....$1446.00 This amount will be added to the monies raised by Bill Predock and committee at the International Rally and from Brad Newby with Weigh In Pt. Duex. We will be meeting in Memphis, Tn. on Sept.12, 2009 , to present the monies to St. Jude. I will post the total amount as soon as I have recieved all monies. Thanks to all who made this possible, and there were many.......... :clap2::clap2::clap2::clap2::clap2:
  7. Just bought a collector for my 84 XVZ12. Looked up the exaust gaskets online for Yamaha origional. $20 each for the headers (4 needed) and $13 each for the mufflers (2 needed). Total $106 total plus tax. Seems a bit much for 6 metal rings. Just wondering if anyone knows of an aftermarket set available anywhere.
  8. After testing the waters, it looks like another 'Condor' fork brace group buy is in order. I checked with my supplier and we can get the same price as last year's at $50.00 bucks. So it'll be $60.00 total to your front door for those in the US, and $70.00 total for our VentureRider brothers north of the boarder in Canada due to the extra shipping costs. The flat rate shipping cost also covers the paypal fees. The braces will all be shipped via USPS Priority. Pic of the brace is attached. The Group buy has been closed off for some time now, but there's hope. Extra braces are still available and an ad has been posted in the Classifieds under 1stGen Parts. All payment info is also there. Thanks
  9. Hey Don, Now that this is a "subscription site", will the VR Assistance List be changed to only include those subscribed? And what about the total members tally? It's currently showing well over 7K members. Will it only show the total paid members? Just curious. The membership fee now in place would still be a bargain at 5 times the amount. I've learned so much here & thank you, Don, & all the members for making & keeping this site so friendly. I think one would be hard-pressed to find another forum that has the overall great attitude that this one has. Well done. I've yet to actually meet anyone here, but look forward to that happening.
  10. I bought my 83 Venture 13 years ago this month with 23,000 miles on the odometer. I have put an additional 98,000 miles on in since for a total of 121,000 miles. It has been a great bike for me and I enjoy it immensly. How about you on your bike? RandyA
  11. Front is 7lbs? Is that per shock or total for both forks? & rear is 0-57lbs?
  12. Thanks DonC, ( GunBoat ) for pulling this off, and Thanks DonN. (Freebird) for sending the emails to the Texas members. Don H was pretty surprised, when we came wheelin up to his house.. The neighberhood will never be the same..but we did leave the Red Lobster in one peice, so we should be allowed to come back. We had a Total of 8 folks and had a Great Time and an Awsome visit. 14. My mom and dad had a dream to go on an Alaskan cruise and then dad passed away about 10 years ago. Well, mom never made it so I decided I would take her myself. I'm looking for a package for 2 people. Leave sometime in June-Aug total of 7-9 days. Mom needs a handicapped room beings she don't get around very well anymore. Any information would be appreciated. God Bless, Ride safe. Mike
