  1. Anyone do a permanent mount for a power socket using the auxiliary connection under the seat on the RSTD? Would like to mount close to the seat using a bracket. Any suggestions appreciated!
  2. Does anyone know the size of the socket required for the big nut that holds the steering crown on (big top nut)? I don't see the size in the svc manual. I have to buy a socket tomorrow morning to get it off and would like to make just one trip. Kevin
  3. My 86 has four dome head, chromed allen bolts that hold the chin cowl on. They look nice and don't snag anything when you are wiping her down. One of mine is stripping in the allen hole so I looked up the part in Yamaha parts list: 3890110-06078-00BOLT, HEXAGON SOCKET and even in the drawing it LOOKS like a regular socket head bolt... I didn't think thesse were custom but I'd sure like to find new ones... any ideas? The normal is a socket head on the rest of the MKii bikes out there?
  4. Whenever I travel, the navigator goes with me,and she's the one who uses the GPS, so I bought a waterproof lighter socket at Walmart (as bad as I hate Walmart, I had a free gift card I had to use). I found an accessory plug under the seat and wired the lighter socket to it with only a few inches of wire. I mounted it to the left rear crash bar with a homemade clamp. I'll attach a picture. We plug the GPS into the socket, and Karen rides with it in her lap and we have a low tech way of communicating. She leans forward and yells in my ear which way to turn.
  5. I have the do-hicky that came withmy '06 Tour Deluxe to remove the plugs...is there supposed to be a wrench that somehow fits in the space in the cylinder to fit on the spark plug socket and actually turn the socket? The manual showsa pictureof something thin that fits into a hole in the side of the plug socket. ??????????????? Can somebody post a picture of what turns the plug socket that came with the bike?
  6. The 12 volt power socket on my fairing has no juice. I can't see any blown fuses on the fuse panel. Is there another inline fuse for that socket???
  7. Ok ... finally got around to pulling the bike apart to check the u-joint. Got the rear wheel and final drive off. Can't get the swingarm off because the nuts are too big. The biggest socket I have is 27 mm bought for the rear axle. I will have to go buy a larger socket for the swingarm and, from the look of things, a large hex key socket to fit my torque wrench. Can anyone tell me what size both of these are ? I can't find the size in the service manual. Stores are closed here today so I guess I will have to finish the job later. Thanks in advance.
  8. In the tool kit I have there is a "socket" to fit the spark plugs. However I can't get anything in there, that comes with the kit, to be able to turn the socket. The only thing that fits is the wrench and I can't get it down in there. Am I missing something? I didn't think that the kit had ever been out of the bag.
  9. Seems like i can't find the right socket to fit my plugs in my socket set and I don't have the original tool kit. Will a standard deep 18mm socket work? The manual says either NGK DPR8EA-9 or ND x24EPR-UP Can someone assist. Thanks, Jim
  10. Silly question, however I need to replace plugs in my !st Gen., and I missed placed my socket. Can anyone give me the right socket size to pull these? Thanks in advance. Semper Fi
  11. Would someone please tell me what size this bolt is? I know it's bigger than 15mm. I need to get the right sized socket. Thanks in advance. Couldn't find the info in the manual.
  12. :confused24::confused24:I have to change my plugs. Sea Foam has done its work. However, NONE of the plug sockets or regular metric sockets will fit. Is there a special socket one must get? Does it have to be "thin wall"? What am I doing wrong? Thank you all in advance for helping with my "stupidity"!!! Or silliness, you choose! Thanks Ohedron42
  13. OK, so I'm technically challenged!! I got the Electrical Connection Taillight Conversion Kit, sounded like a good and Easy idea for the 2008 RSV.. I figured out the wiring connections, but darned if I can figure out how to get the turn signal bulb grommet out of the lollipop without tearing it up. I believe this must be removed so the wiring can follow the same path as the original wiring. Also there is no slack in the wiring even after removing the lollipop from the fender so no room to play with. If it's only a matter of pull&rip, I can get the grommet out, but I'd rather not. While I'm in there I'd like to replace that FUBAR light socket with an 1157 socket. Any assistance would be greatly appreciated. I've had her apart for 2 days now and I've scratched a bald spot on the 'ol noggin.
  14. Just before I parked the bike for the winter I went to start it. It cranked about 1/4 of a rev, there was metal breaking sound and what sounded like a spring or something under tension releasing. Push the starter button now and nothing happens accept the starter trying... dead electrical load. The engine will not spin over. Where do I start looking and testing? My thought was to pull the left side center cover and try to turn the engine crank over with a socket and breaker bar. I'm hoping to eliminate a broken valve I think. If that proves to be good, is there something in the starter gear train I should then dig into. TIA
  15. Hi everyone, I just did the 8,000 mile service in the 06 TD, which included spark plugs. Not a hard job at all. Spark plugs (NGK) that came out were 11/16 socket while the ones going in were 5/16 (Champion). I did not anticipate this, but quickly realized that the cross reference was right although the different socket sizes threw me for a moment. Not big news to the better wrenches on the site, but helpful to me and perhaps someone else. Bike runs great, and the plugs I took out could have remained for several more k's. Jim
  16. Tried to hold damper rod while using air ratchet and damaged the head on the socket cap screw that holds the damper rod in place. I put the socket on a hand ratchet and it ramps up out of the head. How to get this off? Any ideas? I'm tempted to clean it off with brake cleaner and epoxy the socket in place.
