On my 83, to manually cancel the signal lights, I have to push down on the button. On Squidleys 86 that I rode, to manually cancel, I pushed the button in. This was the same as my 79 850 Special I had before the Venture. I like the push style much better. I did not remember to look closely at squid's bike to see if it is the same basic set up as my Standard 83 with his being a Royale. I know there is more controls above it that I don't have, but I forgot to look at how they attached. When was the changeover on this and what will fit mine with the "push in cancel"? My auto cancel works, sometimes I like to cancel quicker. RandyA

I found a part number for that weird rear turn signal bulb on the 2nd gen Venture, and, I suppose, the RSTD also. 7507 Also referred to as the BAU15s on this website: http://autolumination.com/1156_1157.htm You can see these bulbs down near the bottom of the page. They also have LED replacements, if you want to actually DO that. I got the impression during my searches that this bulb is used in some European cars, like the BMW and the Porsche. How it ended up in our bikes is anybodys guess, maybe the Japanese designers got a helluva deal on the bulbs and sockets. Someone somewhere has asked if there were any bulb numbers for this bike, and this was the only one I didnt have till now. Hope this is of some use.

I hooked up my passing lamps today. Found the wiring diagram here on this site, followed it, now here is what I have. With the lamps turned on, right turn signal works fine. Turn on the left turn signal, both turn signals and headlight flash and the radio goes dead. I have gone over the wiring to make sure everything is hooked up according to the instructions that I have, but still the same thing happens. I have my power from the battery through a fused wire to a relay, from the relay I ran another wire to a seperate switch, from the relay another wire powered by ignition. Any ideas guys, sure could use some. Thanks.

Does any one know where I can purchase red turn signal lenses for the rear of an RSV? I want to purchase a run-stop-turn module and will be needing red lenses.I know I can get red LED's ,but don't want to use a load equalizer and I like the self canceling turn signals.I have seen them on other member's bikes on this forum, but can't seem to find them anywhere.I also thought about using the Harley accessory tail light, but don't know if they could be wired to also function as turn signals.Any help would be greatly appreciated, such as where to buy, part #s,etc.

i am looking at the schematic for the cruise control system and i see that the speed signal is picked up electrically off the back of the speedo cluster. without pulling my speedo off to check, does anyone know if this is a milliamp signal, or a 12 volt pulse that triggers the cruise control box. ( i have a friend with an 85 vmaxx and he has an 86 venture that he wants to pull the cruise off and put on the vmaxx.)

Well I have a problem with my turn signals they work on emergency flash and they burn fine when the bike is running but when I try to use the turn signal all I get is a buzzing noise from the flasher/hazard relay. Bought a used one from Pinwall cycle parts same thing buzzing noise. I attempted to clean the contacts in the switch. Is there a voltage I should look for at the main connector to the flasher/hazard relay? Thanks Jim

What headlight modulators are people using and is there any problems with the light bulb burnout feature. I was looking at signal dynamics and the Kisan ones. Thanks Jim.

no turn signal-no riding!!!!
Guest posted a topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
Hello, I am trying to track down the lack of turn signal on my 1991 I have checked all fuses and connections-the bike is almost skinless should I consider replacing the signal relay?-its $130.00!! The front "turn signal" lights are fine in a runny light condition-but no turn signal. The back siganl lights give me nothing-all bulbs are new I worked hard all winter to get the bike painted and detailed-just bought it last year BUT I can't ride in Cleveland Ohio without turnsignals Your input would be greatly appreciated -
Is it just my bike? or do you have the same problem? Myself. (not that far away) Like to turn my turn signals on before I turn left or right. Just like I do in my truck. The problem I have always have had is the turn signal always turns OFF (times-out) before I get to the turn and I have to set it again, Is there a way to make it stay on longer? Thanks for any info. (2000 RSV) Jeff

This has happened to most of us. It happened last night again. I sat in a left turn lane for two full cycles of the lights and I never got the green arrow. So after the second time of not getting the green arrow I waited until it was safe to proceed and went through on the red. Sure as heck some cop was watching and pulled me over. He gets out and says "Do you know why I stopped ya?". I said I do know, but I did wait for two cycles of the lights and since they never gave me the green I waited until it was safe to proceed through the intersection as required by MN state law. His response was that MN does not have a law that allows that, but since he also rides we knows why I went through the light and didn't write me a ticket. He did run my name and plates to make sure I was a nice guy. So when we got home my wonderful wife had to look up the law since I was sure that two years ago MN added a provision for this. Here is what she found. ---------------------------------------------------------------- http://www.dps.state.mn.us/mmsc/latest/MMSCHomeSecondary.asp?cid=5&mid=153 Sec. 42. Minnesota Statutes 2000, section 169.06, is amended by adding a subdivision to read: Subd. 9. [AFFIRMATIVE DEFENSE RELATING TO UNCHANGING TRAFFIC CONTROL SIGNAL.] (a) A person operating a motorcycle who violates subdivision 4 by entering or crossing an intersection controlled by a traffic-control signal against a red light has an affirmative defense to that charge if the person establishes all of the following conditions: (1) the motorcycle has been brought to a complete stop; (2) the traffic-control signal continues to show a red light for an unreasonable time; (3) the traffic-control signal is apparently malfunctioning or, if programmed or engineered to change to a green light only after detecting the approach of a motor vehicle, the signal has apparently failed to detect the arrival of the motorcycle; and (4) no motor vehicle or person is approaching on the street or highway to be crossed or entered or is so far away from the intersection that it does not constitute an immediate hazard. (b) The affirmative defense in this subdivision applies only to a violation for entering or crossing an intersection controlled by a traffic-control signal against a red light and does not provide a defense to any other civil or criminal action. ----------------------------------------------- So, they didn't make it truly legal, but they did write into law that it is excusable under the proper conditions. What is the law on this in your state?

Has anyone else had this problem? The wire harness for the front turn signals, light bar, etc, is routed right between the steering stops below the headlight...In the past few weeks, a wire has worked up over the stop and been pinched and shorted out the lights. Last night I lost all my lights, I found the right turn signal wire cut and fried, last week it was one of the light bar passing lights, and before that , the same turn signal. I have tried pulling them as far as they will go in either direction, and still stay plugged in, but they keep working back in the line of the pinch point. I used zip ties to get them out of the way this time. I think I have an idea about an alternative way to route them but it may require drilling a hole in the back half of the fairing and feeding them through...this would eliminate the problem altogether... Unless someone has a better idea, I will try that next week... I am heading out for a few days this Friday for a color tour, so I don't want to tear into it right now....stocking up on fuses and electrical tape for the trip in the mean time...
