Looking for a littel help for my brand new rider wife of mine..
Guest posted a topic in Watering Hole
Hello everyone. My wife decided to take the plunge and learn how to ride her own scoot. She's 5'1 and 115 lbs so we started small and picked up an 08 Honda Rebel with 280 miles on it at the local dealer for a great price. Anyways, she's learning quick but we keep running into one nagging problem. She has very small hands and can't get a decent grip ont he clutch and front brake. These levers are not adjustable on the Rebel. I'm rather shocked at how far out these things are on such a SMALL bike. Anyways, looking fo rsome opinions on some solutions. I've tried one company, I think it was AXT???, that makes adjustable levers and they said they do not make one for the Rebel. Maybe have a shop heat them and bend them back some??? I'm sure I'll get some great suggestions here on the board. By the way, you should see how absolutely funny it it when her Rebel is parked next to my Venture!!! In all honesty, me being 6'4 and 240, I do not belong on her bike, but that thing is a blast to ride, like mopeds back in high school days. Makes me want to get something in the 600cc range to compliment the beast Venture. Anyways, thanks guys and I look forward to hearing form you. -
I don't understand this at all, but in several trips on my 87 VR I have gotten 50+ mpg several times, and just not one tank but several successive ones. Generally I run at 40 mpg. Couple of theories? 1. Maybe fuel without ethanol makes a difference. 2. Seems to do better when the weather is HOT. 3. Clearly riding at 45 - 50 mpg, nice and sedately makes a difference, but that much? 4. Head/tail wind? I know this will drive Greg in London nuts, but it is the facts.

Guest posted a topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
Hi Again, Just reading the post about a backrest desparely needed, So now I have a question. My newly aquired 88 VR has a seat that has a place behind the driver to insert a backrest, a lot like my HD. Just wondeering who makes the seat? Saddlemen? if so where can I find a backrest as I do not have it. Thanks in advance, Kim -
Just wondering if anyone is using a rack in their receiver hitch. Where did you get it and how do you like it? I'm not too sure about the one Rivco makes. Eddie

I'm from Alabama and don't mind having anyone know. I've watched threads appear and disappear and read input from many Ventureriders. Some, it seems that I might click with due to similar interests, philosophies, occupations, etc. and if, within reasonable riding distance would like to meet them or get together for a ride. But there are so many that do not list the state, so how do I know who is close in distance and who is not. Makes me wonder. Is there just enough distrust within the membership that it makes a person antsy about putting there state along with their city or is it site policy for the protection of all members, "just in case"?

Snowing faithful now about twice a week. I think we get more winter in feb and march then any other month. I got mud knee deep out here when it's not snowing. Bike been setting for 4 months makes for riding skills getting a little rusty.Nice to know my first maneuver will be that creek.Water still cold in march.

A couple of days ago Black Owl just sent me a pair of fork protectors that a member won at Ft Collins, and instructed Russ to send to me. It been a while since July and he can't remember who the member was...old age thing..., but that he thinks?? he came from Winnipeg...? Anyway I'd sure like to know who it is so I can thank him personally. Any Ideas. BTW Russ makes these things and I really like them.

I would like to thank the moderator who saw fit to remove a rather tasteless joke from the forum sometime during the night or this morning. I have posted a few borderline jokes that I have received through my email, and have gone so far as to copy/paste into the thread and then delete after thinking and rereading during preview. :2cents:I guess that we all have to remember that what some may enjoy, others may not. I try not to insult anyone, or get too political. It seems as most of us do. However, once in a while everyone makes a mistake, and I guess that's what you guys are for. We have a good thing going here. Very enjoyable, friendly, and helpful. Maybe the post last night will wake a few of us up and help us remember that there is a time and a place for everything. Thanks again, Joe.

Just got in an hour ago. We spent the night in Misissippi. Did a total of 857 miles. It was a great trip and I am glad that Lewis set it up and we decided to go. There were 12 bikes if I counted right and my wife rode 2 up with me. We learned a lot about the place and found out the donation that we make every month, for the last couple of years, goes to a great cause. It makes me want to do more. Will post some pics shortly. It was also great to see old friends and make new ones. Thanks again Lewis for setting this up and for caring.

Cowboys now 5-0, BTW Texans are also 5-0. Do I see a Texas Super Bowl??? Excellent last two seconds of the game, Folk makes one 53 yd field goal to get called back then makes the second to win the game. Way to go Cowboys. Don, can you banish Redneck from watching anymore Dallas games??? He always roots for the OTHER team.:rotf: And Redneck

Hi gang - new to the list. I have a basket-case '83 Royale for which I will be seeking a lot of advice. It's got 30K miles but has been sitting in a garage for the last 12 years. I've been aquiring lots of parts that it needs (carbs, CB antenna, mirrors, left upper fairing, new rear master cylinder and lines, etc.). Two quick questions (couldn't find the answers in a search - apologies if I'm a dope!): 1. Do Dunlop Elite IIs work on the first-gen Royales? Looking to see if someone still makes RWL tires for it and your tips. 2. I see lots of references to "Seafoam" and its magical powers, but haven't found it in a shop or a catalog - what's the proper name and/or manufacturer of this stuff? Thanks in advance!!! Gregg

I need to ask this only because I'm on the road and don't have my owner's manual or shop manual with me. When checking the antifreeze level in the tank behind the right side cover, is the bike supposed to be level and balanced or leaning over on the side stand? It makes a huge difference in what the level reads. The bike in question is a '96 Royal Star, if that makes any difference. TIA.
