  1. several of us are going to meet at the hub in arkansas where the international rally will be held. we will be meeting there saturday may 23, for brunch. so far, colesgrampa, dooder1, wildhair, and i are going. if any one else is interested let me know you may hook up and ride with me or one of the other guys. i will be leaving the st. louis area about 5:30 am may 23, and coming back the same day. last time we did this last fall we had a great time. bill
  2. as soon as i get my st. charles meet behind me . i'm going to be calling all the rally committee members back to work. i am going to ride from st. charles down to the hub to tie up the loose ends and plan the final meal with them, on a saturday in the near future. any one that wants to fall in with me or meet at the hub is welcome. i will post a date soon. you can try out the great breakfast menu they have. again please register as soon as you can if you plan on attending the 09 rally. bill
  3. according to allanh, as of this morning there is a double room available at the hub. some one better grab it if you want to be where the action is. if anyone cancels a room, could you post it on here so some one else can get it. there will probably be a few cancelations in the future do to the economy or something else changing some ones plans. i will try to keep you posted on cancellatons if i find out about them. bill
  4. just, want to remind people to register as soon as you can for the 09 ar. rally at the hub, so we can start ordering t-hirts and get a count. not trying to pressure anyone, but trying to make it easy on cindy and give the folks who own the hub an idea what to expect for the final dinner that they are going to cater. thanks bill
  5. Hello All, Have rebuilt my motor cycle tralior and cannot find any baby moon hub caps for my wheels. I have 4.80 x 8 inch tires. And yes pictures are coming. Any help would be greatly appreciated. :cool10:
  6. I have read a few posts on this but still have a few questions. I plan on lubing the rear end in 3 places when I change my rear tire on my 07 RSV. Rear hub drive pins Rear hub splines Rear drive shaft splines (front and back) This is the first time I have done this. The shop manual says to use Lithium soap for rear hub area and Moly for driveshaft. I have read posts about the Honda Moly 60 paste on this site. I mentioned the Moly 60 paste to my dealer who was hesitant to use something with such a high Moly content. I didnt get into a big discussion with him as I want him to stand behind me if there are problems in the future. He has no problem with me doing my own service but seemed to be more comfortable with the lithium soap on rear and normal moly on the driveshaft. Is there a real compelling reason to use Moly 60 or is it more important that you simply grease things to spec? Are the three areas above all that need greasing in the rear end? Any feedback is always appreciated. Thanks Jim
  7. i am going to make one more trip to the hub. to tie up the loose ends and finalize everything for the 2009 venture rider rally. it will probably be toward the end of april or the middle of may. i will be leaving st. charles mo. early on a sat. morning and plan on doing a round trip in one day. staying overnight at the hub is an option, to check out the rooms. would anyone be interested in riding with me or meeting me there late on a saturday morning, like around 10 am. i did this last year and met some of my committee members there and we had a great breakfast and a great time time. it will be set up on a weekend when the weather on both ends looks decent. let me know if you are interested. bill
  8. For those who might be needing a book at the Hub I have called and emailed the hub to cancell my reservation for the 09 rally have not heard back from them yet but that is probably due to time of year not one but both daughter's have come up pregnant and ones due date is the first week of Auguest the other is real close to that. So if any one is needing a Double room that was what I had booked.
  9. I have decided that I just cant make it to the Intl Rally in August so I was gonna cancel my room at the Hub. I dont know if they will let us transfer reservations from my name to anyone elses but if anyone wants a triple room at the Hub maybe give them a call to find out if its possible. Its sposed to have a fridge and 3 beds. Please let me know if youre interested so when I call to cancel I can give them your name, Then you can call them to finalize things. I will take the first name that lets me know if its possible to transfer the reservation. I would love to go, but the summer is just not long enough to fit everything in. SO you guys better take lots of pics so I dont miss anything..... Brian
  10. i just recieved a pm from a member wanting to know what kind of events will take place at the 09 rally in arkansas. so rather than just tell him, i thought i would post on here for people who have never been there. first off the area we will be in is some of the most beautiful and best riding country in the usa. since we are expecting such a large turn out we will have maps available for various rides so people can group up and go sight seeing on there own. eureka springs is about 40 miles away and is one awesome tourist area.there is so much history and unique things to see in the old town area. the hub where the host motel is is a motorcycle resort with a nice motel, restaurant, meeting hall and is the starting point for many good rides away from town. the hub motel is full of our people exclusively and the resort will be ours for the meet duration. there are motels listed in nearby harrison ,9 mile from the hub, and they are listed under rides and rallies. we will be in the heart of the arkansas hill country and the scenery is unblievable. bring your cameras the picture taking is endless. we will be close to beaver lake, taneycoma, bullshoals, and branson is a nice day ride for anyone wanting to head up there. as for shopping the area is a shoppers paradise. you could spend days in eureka springs alone. there are ferry rides, eateries, and craft and antique shops everywhere. i could go on and on and not cover half of the things to do. if anyone else who knows the area wants to chime in and elaborate on the stuff i have missed or forgot. please do so this will be a big help to the folks that are trying to decide whether or not to make it next year to hopefully the biggest event the venture riders have ever had. we are expecting a record turnout for this one so we are giving it our all. any questions chime in and some one on the site will have an answer if i don't. looking forward to meeting alot of new people and seeing my old friends. bill
  11. okay folks, not much has been happening on our committee, but here is what we have to date. cindy will be opening the registration in the very near future. we have gotten most of the rally costs together. the dinner will be on thursday night, and as of now will be the hub restaurants ultimate prime rib and fried chicken, and all the trimmings. randall who owns the hub says it is the worlds best. if you plan on bringing kids , we have that covered with a special price for 12 years and under. registration fee will cover the final meal in the hall, a t-shirt with a neat logo by freebird, a matching patch, a really neat name button so every one knows who you are. we will have a slight discount for couples registering. there will be a vendor area inside the airconditioned hall, so if you want to contribute something there like having something you want to vend contact me or danob11, who is in charge of vendors. since the hub has a really nice restaurant on site we are going to have a breakfast buffet every morning which will be pay when you eat. since i like my coffee at 5 in the morning. i am going to see that the early risers are covered, if i have to make it myself. i'm sure i can pressure the hub to do that for us guys. still busting our butts to make this the best meet of all. not trying to out do anyone but just want to have every one to have a good time and no complaints. if i forgot anything i hope the rest of the committee will chime in and let everyone know. bill to the 2009 international rally :clap2:
  12. Someone here mentioned a condition called "Dry Hub". Can anyone provide more details...maybe a fix? I've got an 08 RSV. Without the bike running, when I roll the bike forward or backward, there is a loud click coming from the rear axle. What's bad is I can hear the click with the bike running, all the way up to about 40 MPH. I tried turning up the radio, but.... Is this something that would be covered under waranty? Any ideas or suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!
  13. This would be lo lace a 16" Harley rim to a Honda rear hub. 40 spoke. I want to lace this kit - http://loudfastugly.com/chrmandacc/rimspok.htm
  14. The rest of the pictures for the wheel bearing job. The last picture is of a wheel pulled apart with brute force. The drive hub was pried off without removing the snap ring. JB
  15. okay group, we have decided to open the 2009 rally to venders and have a vender area. so far DIAMOND R has committed to be there for us and bring their products. do any of you folks know, any motorcycle related vendors that might be interested in selling and showing there products at the rally? if so contact them and have them pm me. i still have to clear this with the hub, but since we have the whole resort to ourselves i see no problems. i will talk to debbie at the hub this week. your help on this would be appreciated. this is just apart of some of the neat stuff we are working on for you, all. thanks bill:2133:
  16. there is a controversy on the hub being in a dry county. not to worry we have three choices on beer and liquor for those who want it. 1) you can bring what ever you want with you when you come. 2) when you go on a ride you can. stop on the way back to the hub and bring what you want back with you ,thats what we did at vogel. 3) the owner of the hub said he would keep plenty iced down for us. can't elaborate on that cuz thats all he said and i did'nt ask any questions. so we will have beer one way or the other. no law against having or consuming it in a dry county you just can't buy it. i think you have to go about 23 mile from the hub to the beer store. eureka springs is not in a dry county. lots of people will probably go there to sight see. we could even have a beer run ride for those like me that like beer. bill
  17. Met Bill and Raymond at the Hub today to check it out. They have a nice size resturant, confrence room, motel looked clean and neat. A big grass area for gathering and tent setup. 2 horse shoe pits (I feel a challenge coming) Over all looks like a nice place. John
  18. Well, I'm just about to put my first new set of tires on the RSV (@ 12k miles) and was wondering if I should tell the new dealership I'm going to to re-grease the clutch hub pins? I had it done it the first time at around 4k miles. I'm not going back to the dealer that performed the process the first time because thier customer service is just pathetic. This will be the third dealership I've taken the bike to (you might recall from some of my other posts that the last guys I took my bike to managed to drop the bike and had to replace the fairing, left lower, and a saddlebag guard.). I guess I'm just dreading having to explain to the dealer techs about the this problem with the clutch hub pins. _________________
  19. Have a 1984 royal that has all of a sudden developed a noise that I can not find, When you put into gear and give any throttle heare a ratcheting sound , first i thought it was the splines on the inner clutch hub , tore down and is ok, sounded like it was there , does it in all gears, any ideas would be greatley appreciated. 20. When doing maintainance on the rear wheel hub assembly, is it okay to use "white lithium" grease, on the splines and hub pins,or is there another type to use? I know that some people have complained about the lack of grease in this area, the white lithium looks like it may be too light for the job. I had to pry the hub out of the assy using a pry bar, it was rusted in there good, no sign of any grease from the factory. I cleaned of the pins with a wire wheel and cleaned the bore's out with a .20 gauge smooth bore barrel cleaning tool, you know what I mean the copper brush thing, lol. Yes ay info on what type of grease to use would be helpful. Cheers Keith.
  21. I recently changed my rear tire and when i took it into the shop to have it mounted they took out the two spacers inside the hub. They wernt sure which way the long spacer went back into the hub.( this is the one that slides into the roller bering). It has a milled or reduce end on one end about 1/2. Anyway after lots of debating ( the service manual doesnt show) on which way this goes back in to the hub i decide to put the milled down part frist into the hub.. Was that right cause not i have a lot of grease on the rim of my wheel, which may have been from me being too liberal one the grease when reinstalling. thanks . jack in los osos ca
  22. Greasing the Rear Drive Splines and greasing the Hub Pins on the RSV By Tartan Terror NOTE: Most of us here would recommend Honda Moly60 as the grease of choice for this application. It will do a great job and last much longer than other types. First thing you will need to do is raise the bike on a lift and remove the rear tire. For these operations look for the instructions in other articles in this tech area. After you have the wheel removed lay your rear tire flat on the ground or on a surface that you can work on it with the spline side facing up (Looks like a gear). http://www.venturerider.org/hub/Image1.gif I removed the dust shield (Rubber ring around the base of the gear) but it is not necessary unless you want to clean everything thoroughly. Wipe around the top edge of the gear clean and you will find a snap ring. Look carefully because it is hard to miss. Use a pair of snap ring pliers that open to remove the ring and lift it off or gently grab it with a pair of pliers being careful not to stretch the ring. If you do not remove this ring you will be unable to remove the pins from the hub (I know this Cuz this dummy tried to do it!) After you have removed the ring pull on the gear and the pins should slide out. http://www.venturerider.org/hub/Image2.gif Once you have removed the pins clean off any rust on the pins with a piece of scotch brite so that they are smooth. Generously apply grease to the pins. I used lithium based grease but any good water proof grease will do. Below you will see a picture showing the pins, Snap ring, scotch brite pad, and dust boot ring. http://www.venturerider.org/hub/Image3.gif Reinsert the pins into the bushings and replace snap ring. Once again be careful not to stretch out the ring as it needs to fit tightly to keep it in the groove. If you removed the dust boot also replace that and make sure it is properly seated. Apply grease to the splines on the hub. http://www.venturerider.org/hub/Image4.gif And also on the splines in the differential. It will squeeze out any extra grease then you lift the wheel back up and slide the hub splines into the differential splines but here is where most of the noise is coming from. http://www.venturerider.org/hub/Image5.gif It’s as easy as that. Like I said before refer to the other articles in this section to reinstall the rear wheel. Now Get out and Ride it like you stole it!!!
  23. I removed the rear wheel and put grease on the drive shaft and wheel splines. I could not get the hub off I removed the retaining clip but still could not get it to come off, I did not want to pry on it for fear of damaging the hub or the rubber seal. Any ideas? Dale
  24. This tech tip covers numerous possible solutions, including the proper alignment of the rear drive and simple greasing of parts of the final drive clutch hub. One point of clarification to pay attention to when talking to your dealer is the difference between the final drive "clutch hub drive pins" (also called Clutch Pins in the figure on page 3 of the Tech Tip), and the clutch hub "drive splines." The pins fit into damper bushings in the wheel assembly and are NOT visible until the hub is removed from the wheel. The drive splines are on the outside of the hub and mate to the final drive when the wheel is mounted to the bike. These splines are what you see on the left side of the wheel when you remove it from the bike. These are clearly labeled in the Tech Tip. If you have had the shop try to fix this noise at least once without success, the noise you hear is probably coming from dry "clutch hub drive pins," not the drive splines. If you tell your shop to make sure the "splines" are greased, they are probably doing just that, and this does NOT solve your problem. If we all use the correct terminology when talking about this problem, we have a much better chance of getting all these Yamaha mechanics educated about the right fix. Thanx for listening, Goose BTW - although I do not know this for sure, I also suspect that the noise is probably caused much more from bushings not fully seated (as described in the bulletin) than just dry pins, so the wear marks on the drive pins should be closely examined as described in the Tech Tip. __________________
