  1. I have a question for you ladies. What is the best way to wear long hair while riding? I have long hair past my shoulders and in the past I've not been overly concerned with how my hair is after I take off the helmet. But soon it will be a near daily thing to be on a bike. I've seen those skullcaps with attached ponytail holders on different leather and biker sites. I personally can't french braid my hair, but sometimes Hubby will do it for me. Anyway, I wanted ideas.
  2. This afternoon at 4:00pm saw a RSV gray and silver traveling south on Jefferson St at Osuna RD. Rider was wearing a white full face helmet, black jacket with a red yoke. Nice clean looking RSV.
  3. Here's a question that I've been wondering about. If you lived in a state where you don't have to wear a helmet, but like to talk on the CB, but don't want to spent the money to by one of those "helmetless" headsets, what are your alternatives? Can you somehow use a mic and cord like the police use ot use? Would the CB transmit trough the speakers and still be able to talk using theis type of setup? Would it even hook up to the RSV system?? If so, where would one look for such a setup??? I would think someone from one of the states where they don't have helmet laws could answer this pretty quick. Well???I know, I know, more than 1 question!!
  4. I'm looking at getting a couple of new helmets for the wife and I. We usually wear half helmets. We would like to start using the headsets since we have the RSV. This is the helmet we like that the stealership has...I like the flipdown sunshades...Anyone have experience with this or suggestions for another one like it? http://www.motorcycle-superstore.com/1/1/38/6973/ITEM/Scorpion-EXO-100-Solid-Helmet.aspx?WT.ac=SLIsearch Thanks!
  5. I get weekly emails from Motorcycle Gear (old name was New Enough) and they have a great sale going on for new HJC CL-Max Helmets for $64.99. This is a full face, flip up helmet. I bought one for the hubby last year and it's a nice helmet. Just wish I would have gotten that good of a sale on it. Anyway....just wanted to pass along a great deal. I tried to copy and paste it here but to no avail. Website is: www.motorcyclegear.com Deb
  6. Yesterday at the International Motorcycle Show here in Toronto, I saw this new model Gmax open face helmet with some new features that appear to be good ones - you can see the helmet at http://www.g-max.com/gmax/replace-gm67s.html. One of the new features is an optional battery powered led light bar that fits into the back of the helmet and can be turned on or off and can also be synced with the brake lights by way of a small transmitter. A similar light has been available on Gmax snowmobile helmets but from a conversation with guys from the company that makes them, I am told this is the first helmet with these lights for their motorcycle helmets. I am interested in any comments on why this may not be as good a safety option for bikers as it is for the snowmobilers. In addition, this helmet has several other interesting features including a good quality internal sun visor that the rider can flip up or down, built in pockets for headset speakers and a removable chin bar plus more - and the show price was reduced 20% to $79 here in Canada.
  7. I firmly believe that being visible to other drivers is a matter of survival. I ride at night. I ride in the rain. I even find myself riding at night in the rain. Being visible during these conditions can be greatly improved with little effort or expense. I wear a TourMaster riding jacket that has reflective piping in various areas. You really don't notice it unless a light shines on it. But my helmet, Scorpion EXO 900, has no reflective parts. I decided to correct this design oversight. I purchased a helmet reflective decal set from Applied Graphics, http://www.reflectivedecals.com/arai1a.htm , and applied them to the helmet. They have several different patterns and colors. I bought the black checkered set. The cost was about $30. The application was simple. They say if it is applied correctly, it should last for years. We will see. The reflective properties are excellent as you can see in the photos below. I highly recommend adding some extra reflective material to your riding gear and the Applied Graphics company gets my two thumbs up. :happy34: http://i521.photobucket.com/albums/w337/Owen064/IMG_1760.jpg http://i521.photobucket.com/albums/w337/Owen064/IMG_1759.jpg http://i521.photobucket.com/albums/w337/Owen064/IMG_1761.jpg http://i521.photobucket.com/albums/w337/Owen064/IMG_1762.jpg http://i521.photobucket.com/albums/w337/Owen064/IMG_1768.jpg http://i521.photobucket.com/albums/w337/Owen064/IMG_1770.jpg http://i521.photobucket.com/albums/w337/Owen064/IMG_1767.jpg http://i521.photobucket.com/albums/w337/Owen064/IMG_1765.jpg http://i521.photobucket.com/albums/w337/Owen064/IMG_1769.jpg http://i521.photobucket.com/albums/w337/Owen064/IMG_1772.jpg
  8. Well, New Enough is hacking at me again. They have been offering up some things that I have been wanting to improve on for a while. Today I got the notice on the HJC Sy-Max II going on sale. I've needed to replace my full face helmet, a Vetter I bought when I bought my GL1100, (and no I don't wear it anymore), to something more modern. LOL! I have the HJC Trooper style half helmet that is my daily bucket. Fits great, stays cool and most comfortable helmet I've ever owned. But the colder weather is setting in a full face would be nice. But from what I'm reading the HJC Sy-Max II has some pretty good reviews and has been around for a bit. Now today, they listed one in my size, which is a bear to find and for a decent price. Anyone here own one of these and what are your thoughts on it? The sun visor is one of my main concerns. Nice feature, but seems to be the weak spot in the reviews. Thanks for any comments. Mike
  9. I am looking to replace my HJC and Scorpio open faced helmets, but I am having difficulty finding helmets that can be fitted with the Yamaha standard open-faced head-set and mike. I have a Scorpio half-helmet, and used Velcro to secure the mike. It works OK, but is not ideal. The HJC is getting old (6 years), and works well, but the new ones I have found in the dealers will not readily accept the mike. Anybody using a recent open face helmet with the audio gear that they are really happy with?
  10. The last time my wife rode was about 27 years ago. I recently purchased an 89 VR. The one thing my wife dreads is the helmet hair. She has shoulder length hair and she kinda of rolls her hair into a ball then puts the helmet on. My questions is, in 27 years, has there been any new hair tricks for women who hates Helmet hair.
  11. This may seem mickey mouse, but I sure like how it works. I purchased two items at a dollar store that had plastic "hooks" attached, as shown in the pictures. As you can see, I hung the hooks on the existing helmet holders on my 88VR. While they obviously don't lock, they sure make it easier to hang my helmets there.
  12. Are there anyone recommendations for helmet communication systems? More interested in something that's built in, (comes with the helmet).
  13. Anyone make one? What I would like to do is plug in an adapter to my 5 pin "pentagon" shaped pigtail for my headset and then plug in a 1/8 inch male stereo jack. This way I could use the speakers in my Arai full face helmet on any bike... any thoughts? When I ride the 650 Vstar I use the same helmet and I'm having clearance issues if I use ear buds
  14. I have 99RSV and I am recieving well over the CB but when I transmit they say it is very weak, but if I talk loud they say they can hear me better. It used to work OK but lately the problem started. I'm using a new Nolan 103 helmet with the J&M headset, Any sugestions.
  15. Hello Everyone: My wife and I got away for the long weekend. Left our home in Western NE. rode to Saratoga Wyoming then on to Craig CO, Steamboat Springs, Walden, Fort Collins, Cheyenne WY and home. Approx 800 miles. Witnessed a seasoned motorcyclist drift too close to the edge of the blacktop on a curve in downtown Craig CO. His tires rolled into the 4" deep gutter at about 30 MPH. Nasty spill. All over in 15 seconds. Thanks to a full face helmet, leather coat and full finger gloves he walked away with only bruised knuckles. It could happen to anyone of us at anytime.
  16. Anyone have a left side helmet holder you'd part with? I know my key probably wouldn't fit it but that's ok since I don't use them anyway. I put on a strip light and used the helmet holders to secure it and didn't check to keep them tight and the left one fell off. I would like to get it back original if possible. PM me if you have an extra. (06 RSV) Thanks. Bill
  17. This morning, got to try out the Nolan X-1002 helmet, Condor so graciously sold me. Fits perfectly and has a lot less wind noise than my HJC IS-Max. After supper, I made a Wally-World run, on the scoot. When I got there, I had a "" moment. The new helmet has a quick release buckle on the chin strap. In other words, no "D" ring to hook on the helmet lock. So, this time the trunk was empty and I just locked the helmet in there. How many others here have this predicament? Short of putting your, like this, helmet in the trunk, how do you secure it?
  18. Tried to search for this already, and didn't find any threads on this subject, so forgive me if this topic has already been discussed. Headwraps / doo-rags I am finding in my old-er age, and in this VERY hot southern Alabama summer, that I am sweating a lot more under the helmet. I am typically outdoors 6-8 hours on my ride in the heat of the day (yes, I am drinking plenty of fluids). I have never been one to wear any type of headwrap before, but I am finding I need something to soak up a good portion of sweat. I can literally lean over and it looks like a waterfall of sweat pouring out of my helmet. So my prerequisites are: 1) soak up sweat, and 2) keep head somewhat cooler. So what do you prefer / suggest? Will the basic cotton work? Or would I have to keep 2-3 in my bags to wear each day as one gets "full"? What do you think of the Dupont CoolMax products? Any specific brand, vendor, website you would recommend? Thanks in advance for your inputs.
  19. Here is something different... http://gizmodo.com/5595600/because-wearing-a-helmet-was-never-fun
  20. AFX FX-51 Helmet. Black Just do not want to wear a full face anymore. Nice helemt never dropped or impacted.
  21. Does anyone have a couple of the old Venture Decals that were sold back in the mid 80's when the Venture Touring Society was in existence? The word Venture is written out and in gold color.. I have one on an old helmet that is pictured below. I want to put them on a new helmet as I have just purchased a 2000 RSV.. thanks in advance for your replies...
  22. I want to find a blue tooth head set that I can use and not wear a helmet does anyone know of any? Sometimes I wear a half helmet so I would need something that might be able to be used for both? thanks!!
  23. On my last ride in East Tennessee, I decided to visit the Dragon. While I was in no hurry, I was still making a pretty good clip not just puttin. A group of crotch rockets tore past me like a bump in the road. The bikes were loaded and decked out with all the latest speed stuff and the drivers were in full leather with expensive looking helmets and boots. The thing that got my attention more than that was that each one had a gal on the back with nothing but a helmet, sneakers, and a bikini. They were wrapped around those guys tight with their aaaaaatributes stuck up in the air. I hope they never go down! At least I saw none of the bikinis on the tree of shame.
  24. does anybody make a helmet small enough to go in a rstd hard bag?
  25. Does anyone know if a shorty or half helmet will fit in a 09 rstd bag ? thanks
