  1. Looked in the owners and service manual and couldn't find an exact number for the headlight bulb on the 89. Anybody know what bulb to buy?
  2. Guest

    horn

when i hit the button for the horn the one up front doesnt sound like its activating all the way. at night i can see my headlight dimming everytime i hit the horn. the one on the right bottom seems to do fine any helo?
  3. Errghhh.............. Recently hardwired my GPS to the battery. Spliced the wires into the pigtail from the battery the feeds my Battery tender so I can unplug it whn not being used. I have also taken the wires off the bottom of my Rivco air horn to clean and make sure they had contact. This morning, bike won't start? Possibly????????????????????? left the key on in acc. mode, not sure, but thats all I can think of. Now, after a few minutes on the battery tender, starts but now my headlight modulator is out. Headlight works on both high and low but no modulation? WTF? Could I have moved a wire from it? I have NO idea as to where the modulator is or how its wired(Prevous owner installed) Anyone have any idea where to start?
  4. Hey guys-- whats the best buy--price wise and ease of instulation --for a headlight modulator for an 06 RSTD?---Buzz
  5. :confused24:Hi. Have read the headlight change in the tech deptarment, but when I tried to go to the coolbulb.com site, I get nothing. Has the site name changed?? Or am I just having a bad day? Appreciate your help as I have a broken headlight and WILL NOT pay the ridiculous price of having to change out the whole mechanism as Yamaha wants us to. Thanks in advance. Arnold
  6. I just purchased and installed H7616 passing lamps on my bike. I like the clean look of the clear lenses but they don't look right with the stock headlight. I have searched for a headlight (sealed beam) with a clear lens but can't find one. Does anyone know of one? I know if I find one I have to break out the original one and goop in the new. That is not a problem.
  7. Hi, Headlight on 83 VR used to work ....both high and low beam, stopped working on high this fall , therefore high beam warning lite stays on.... I'm assuming switch on left handlebar might be bad... Not the greatest light beam now..., but I am going to look at painting inside of headlight cover as suggested and I'm replacing driving lights soon too... Still a well functioning high beam would be nice... Anyone had to replace switch???? Running wires as well as choke cable look interesting ..... Clay
  8. I'm looking at a 2006 RSV...the dealer said it has the "optional" stereo kit installed. What is it that's not "standard"? Also, from the front there are 2 small lights (besides the headlight). Are those driving lights that actually do something for you or are they just the yellow lights that don't do much?
  9. In the 12 years I have had my 83 Venture, I have tried several things to improve the headlight situation. The best thing I did was to upgrade to the headlight assembly from an 86 up. It is a big improvement. On ebay right not there is a 90 1st gen being parted that has good starting bid prices on these parts. For someone wanting to do a headlight upgrade, this might be a good oportunity to pick up all the parts needed. I am going to post the link to the headlight bucket and I hope I am not stepping on someone's toes by posting this, but this is the 1st time in a while I have seen these parts available. You will need the; headlight bucket adjustment assy headlight ring upper frame that holds the dash left side frame that mounts the adjustment assy bottom strip the connects the upper fairings that the headlight bucket sits in. If you could do a little welding and have a late 1st gen to go by, you could modify the frames off the 83/85 to accept the headlight mounts and the adjustment assy. 10. I'm planning to install some extra driving lights on my bike.....I don't want to connect them to my headlight ..but I want to use a switch ... what kind of switch can I use that is not to expensive.
  11. I want to try the headlight mod that's in the tech section but don't want to use my good light. Do any of you guys have a broken one or know of one?? If you do give me a shout. thanks.
  12. Has anyone tried the headlight mod that's in the tech section? I want to try it on my 06 RSV but don't want to break my good headlight. Does anyone have a broken one laying around or do you know of one?? Give me a shout if you do. Thanks.
  13. Hello.... I am new to this forum as well a new owner of a 2006 RSV Midnight. Is there a way to adjust the horizontal on the headlight. I adjusted the vertical using the adjustment knob beneath the left side of the fairing My headlight is pointing to the right about 15 degrees. Thanks Al Tomlinson Bisbee, AZ
  14. Mine is an 87 VR but it seems both models are rated for about the same alternator output so I put this in General Tech. I read all the varying opinions about how much extra the system can handle and finally just bought some cheap $20 driving lights with 55W H3 bulbs and installed them. Made some cool little brackets to mount them on the forks by the brakes like you see on some BMW's. I powered them with a relay off the battery. The trigger side of the relay comes off the headlight circuit, before the dimmer switch, and goes thru a toggle switch. Consequently, I can turn the lights on or off with either headlight beam, and they go off with the headlight when starting the engine. After riding this way for a couple weeks, I have a few conclusions. 1) I leave them on in the daytime for visibility to others. 2) I can't leave them on in traffic at night because they have absolutely no beam control and are blinding to others. 3) The relay system works perfectly. 4) Extra light is nice. 5) Cheap lights have kind of a crude beam pattern. Nicer ones would probably be better. 6) The charging system seems fully up to the task of the additional 110W. I've had no battery problems and the volt meter always reads close to 14 volts as long as the engine is above ~2000 rpm. I have no other extra loads on the system. I will soon install grip heaters, which are only a couple amps (24W). Just to keep load down, I think I'll install LED's on the tail and running lights which will save 7W x 4 = 28W. Does anybody have any clue what the ignition system draws? Jeremy
  15. Could a few of you with the Mk1 (early model) Ventures, please do some electrical readings at the headlight plug. What I am trying to determine, is mine the only one with power on the low beam, in addition to the high beam. With my results below, no wonder my high beam is so bright. I want to install a headlight modulator / relay on my 83VR. It works great on the low beam side, but have nothing on high beam due to excessive low beam voltage also present, shutting the unit off. I have tested the unit on another bike (83 750 Maxim) & it works great. My Voltage readings was as follows, at the bikes headlight plug. Switch on Low Beam Low output 11.8V High output 3.58V Switch on High Beam Low output 10.54V High output 11.49V I probably should look inside the switch, as well, to check things there too.
  16. I need a headlight assy that will fit my 06 RSV. I want to try the mod and don't want to ruin my good one. If anyone has one, broken or not, give me a shout at trandeod@frontiernet.net.
  17. OK folks. Something has been weighing heavy on my mind since Gary's son posted yesterday about the accident. I've been hesitant to bring it up because I know that we are all still grieving over the loss of a very fine member of our VentureRider family but on the other hand, I think it is something that should be mentioned just in case it is something that could cause harm to another member. I'm talking about the comment from the young lady who pulled out from the stop sign that she thought the motorcycle was turning. She thought that the turn signals were on. That is NO excuse for her pulling out so please don't think that I'm making excuses for her. It caused me to wonder though, do you think it's possible that somebody could see a modulating headlight and think that they see the turn signals flashing? I know that Gary did have a modulator on his. I have a headlight modulator on my bike also and have always thought that they are a great idea and make you more visible to other traffic but this turn signal thing now has me wondering if there is a downside to it also and if so, does that downside out weigh the positives. At the very least, I think it is a possibility that we should be aware of.
  18. Help! Yesterday morning on my way to work about an hour before sunrise... doing hand to hand combat with the cagers on the way to work... and my headlight and dash lights go out at the same time!! At least I still had my driving lights, but it made me nervous to say the least... Anyone have any ideas what may have caused it?? I guessed that maybe the starter swith might be going bad... so I changed it out last nite... no change! I'm stumped.

    Triumph Sold Out!

Boy! What a disappointment. Been hearing for some time about a new touring model Triumph was doing based on the Rocket platform. Lot's of secrecy and anticipation. What a disappointment when I actually saw what they did. The end result looks like every other main stream cruiser on the market. They even abandoned the dual headlight which gave it a distinctive look and went to single headlight. Reports are it rides very well - only thing on the bike linked to the original Rocket is the motor. New frame, suspension, tires, brakes, etc. - completely redone for better rideability - but the styling is boring IMHO. They had a chance to take a really cool platform and do something unique (not as unique as Victory, hopefully) but you get the point. Unfortunately, while the bike may rock and ride very well - the styling is plain old mainstream. Very disappointed - think Triumph missed an opportunity.
  20. Has anyone here installed Yamaha’s Tri Bar headlight on a 2nd Gen venture? If so do you like it? Can you change the bulb without splitting the faring? Any brighter? What about the Tri Bar passing lamps, are they much better then the stock driving lamps (guess it wouldn’t take much to beat them)? Wondering??
  21. Hi All, I have found that my hand is too big to change the headlamp bulb. I just can not reach it. I tried going on the left side above the headlight adjustment knob. Has anyone found an easy way to do this?
  22. I installed the Diamond star headlight modulator. My question is both my headlight warning lights are now on the computer how do I go about turning them off? Thanks Jim.
  23. I'm gonna tackle the task of resoldering the computer display Before I tear the whole fairing apart, can comebody tell me if there is an easy way...ie go in thru the headlight or whatever. Or do I really have to take the whole fairing apart?
  24. Is there a horizontal left to right headlight adj. If so can it be adj without splitting the fairing?
  25. To work on the 99. Today was a nice day temps in the low 80's with a mist rain. It made for a nice evening to work on the 99. We got the right saddle bag open and latch freed up. A little duct tape ( An old muffinman trick) patched the busted hole in the saddlebag. Split the fairing and got the driving lights repaired and fixed the audio system. WOO HOO we have tunes cb,radio, intercom and everything. The fairing has major scratches with the right side screw supports busted. A little plastic wire tie work should hold it. All thats left to do is adj the headlight beam. It's pointing at the moon. Change oil & filter, check the scoot for loose bolts, move the xm radio and gps from the 89. If all goes well we might bring this thing to vogel.
