  1. last week i was surfing & came across a chrome cup holder. i ordered it & it came in. i could not wait to get it installed. i have been on call & the hours don't leave good mechanicin' time. today i got it installed as well as re routing the driver audio cable. the pictures will be mixed up due to naming conventions, but you will get the idea after reading this novel. one pic shows the factory ad. it is/was on sale for 36 bucks and some shipping. go to www.cruisercustomizing.com and do a search for cup holder. there are a couple of pics checking out which side to mount the holder on. i put the handlebar mount on the right & just held the cup there. that won't work for me, so it is off to the other side. i really wanted something to hold my Mp3 player & the included extra foam for smaller containers is great for the player & cord. i feel the friction fit will it sufficiently, but a ride down I-10 in Louisiana will be the ultimate test. there have been improvements to I-10, but only because of Hurrican Katrina, Rita, Ike & Gustave to improve hurricane evacuation routes. the cup holder comes with 2 sets of inserts to fit 3 different handlebar sizes. i took the smaller of the two to get it mounted by the radio unit. i took several pictures of after mounting for different view. included in the pictures are my re routing the audio cable. i did not like that it hung over the tank left side. the previous owner had removed the rubber holder. it was in the trunk among the other stuff that came with the bike. i cut velcro type material to fit the rubber holder, cleaned both surfaces with al -key - haul & mounted it to the tank cover. i used my dremel rotary tool with a similar size stone to make the new hole so the cable would come through the inside of the ingnition cover straight down the tank. i can't test ride as i won't hear my on call phone ringing, so i will wait until coming wednesday for a ride when i am off . i hope all holds up. dale in La.
  2. have had some questions about beer. if you want beer or hard liquor, bring your own. it is a dry county. if you can't bring it do to space we will make a beer run. there will be no shortage of beer. here are the rules on drinking at the hub. you must not walk around with an open beer. you have to drink it out of a cup. randall specified this and we don't want him run out of business. randall said he will also furnish us with beer if we want. all he asks is follow that simple rule. remember, drink the beer out of a cup, when outside of your room on the hub premises. also i'm sure we will have some confusion here and there. no matter how much planning we did. nothing ever works as planned. if anyone needs help or has a problem see me or one of the committee members and we will do our best to help. this is all the members meet and if we all work together it will be a winner. see you all there. bill :clap2:
  3. I could use you all to way in...I have my steering head apart and can not get the bottom bearing to unseat. It is sitting in a plastic cup. Like to know how much I can beat on this and still have usable parts when done. New parts are days away and I need to ride soon.....
  4. OK, I'm cheap, and had too much time on my hands! Here's my $2.00 GPS mount for my 2nd gen: http://i81.photobucket.com/albums/j204/DragracerUSA/GPS%20Mount/IMG_7849.jpg I started with this cup: http://i81.photobucket.com/albums/j204/DragracerUSA/GPS%20Mount/IMG_7846.jpg I centered the gas cap in the cup facing downward, and cut off the top 3.5" of the cup. I then mounted the flat stick on disk that came with the GPS to the bottom of the cup.. I screwed it to the cup just to be safe. I used a heat gun to mold the cup to fit the gas cap snugly. http://i81.photobucket.com/albums/j204/DragracerUSA/GPS%20Mount/IMG_7851.jpg http://i81.photobucket.com/albums/j204/DragracerUSA/GPS%20Mount/IMG_7852.jpg Here is is pushed onto the gas cap without the GPS mount stuck on. This is held to the gas cap by friction only. I just rode it over 2.5 miles of lime rock, and it never moved. http://i81.photobucket.com/albums/j204/DragracerUSA/GPS%20Mount/IMG_7850.jpg The cup came from Wal-Mart in a pack of 4 for $2.00. So technically, it really only cost .50 cents! To remove it, twist slightly and it pulls right off! http://i81.photobucket.com/albums/j204/DragracerUSA/GPS%20Mount/IMG_7853.jpg
  5. 6. Is the RSV windshield flat enough to use the suction cup mount for my Zumo? Thanks! James
  7. Finally! Here it is: 2 months of work, 2 months of asking you guys and gals for advice and help, and now i can finally put the rubber to the road with much pride and even more joy. I have to thank all of you for your help and i hope that my efforts will help resonate the pride that we all have and the respect that comes with being the stewards of these dignified works of art. i realize that this isn't everybody's cup of tea, but for me it couldn't go any other way. i will not be upset at any criticism you may have so don't hold back - i do want your honest opinions. Thank you all so very much...... http://i554.photobucket.com/albums/jj424/sarahantin/STINKYPINKY.jpg
  8. Just Bought these Mufflers on Ebay, what do ya think? A while back I posted about low power on my venture, especially on the highway... started to look into it and realized my mufflers (off Roadling?) are very different side to side. one is almost straight through and the other has almost a cup in it with holes drilled in the sides for airflow. Maybe I have to much back pressure or to little airflow on the side with the "cup" or dead end in it. I'm really hoping they sound like these. 9. Chicken recipe Here is a chicken recipe that also includes the use of popcorn as a stuffing -- imagine that. When I found this recipe, I thought it was perfect for people like me, who just are not sure how to tell when poultry is thoroughly cooked, but not dried out. Give this a try. *4 - 5 lb. Chicken* *1 cup melted butter* *1 cup stuffing (Pepperidge Farm is Good.)* *1 cup uncooked popcorn (ORVILLE REDENBACHER'S LOW FAT)* *Salt/pepper to taste* Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Brush chicken well with melted butter salt, and pepper. Fill cavity with stuffing and popcorn. Place in baking pan with the neck end toward the back of the oven. Listen for the popping sounds. When the chicken's ass blows the oven door open and the chicken flies across the room, it's done. Enjoy!
  10. has anyone put a cup holder on the rear of a second Gen? if so can you tell me what kind and where you mounted it .. my riding partner is starting to think about the upcoming events for 2009 and told me i had to have one for her!!!! Thanks Ron aka Grasshopper aka honery
  11. 1 cup of water 1 tsp baking soda 1 cup of sugar 1 tsp salt 1 cup of brown sugar 4 large eggs 1 cup nuts 2 cups of dried fruit 1 bottle Jose Cuervo Tequila Sample the Cuervo to check quality. Check the Cuervo again, to be sure it is of the highest quality, pour one level cup and drink. Turn on the electric mixer. Beat one cup of butter in a large fluffy bowl. Add one peastoon of sugar. Beat again. At this point it's best to make sure the Cuervo is still ok, try another cup just in case. Turn off the mixerer thingy. Break 2 leggs and add to the bowl and chuck in the cup of dried fruit. Pick the frigging fruit off the floor. Mix on the turner. If the fried druit gets stuck in the beaters just pry it loose with a drewscriver. Sample the Cuervo to check for tonsisticity. Next, sift two cups of salt, or something. Who geeves a sheet. Check the Jose Cuervo. Now shift the lemon juice and strain your nuts. Add one table. Add a spoon of sugar, or somefink. Whatever you can find. Greash the oven. Turn the cake tin 360 degrees and try not to fall over. Don't forget to beat off the turner. Finally, throw the bowl through the window, finish the Cose Juervo and make sure to put the stove in the wishdasher. Cherry Mistmas !
  12. I got tired of trying to read the side of the oil bottles to measure out 1/2 quart when I change out the oil on my Venture. Went to the Dollar Store and bought a plastic measuring cup that reads ounces. Pour in 8 ounces of fresh oil into the cup and then add the remaining 3 full quarts right into the crankcase that will total 3 and 1/2 quarts. Hope this makes it easier for some of you on your oil changes.
  13. I know that none of you will do this, but just in case. On Monday I left the house heading for Ft Bragg in NC. I had a cup of coffee in my wonderful Venturerider cup, and it worked just great. Along the way at one of my stops I grabbed a Coke and candy bar. Not wanting to throw away the left over Coke, I rinsed the cup and put the Coke in the cup. About ten miles up the road I heard a LOUD pop and saw a quick movement out of the corner of my eye. After I adjusted my mind to the new color of my pants I pulled to the side. The pop up top had been totally blown loose by the pressure build up from the carbonation of the Coke. Fortunately the pieces did not fly off and I was able to just push them back down. Now if only the laundry was that easy. DON'T PUT CARBONATED BEVERAGES IN YOUR VENTURERIDER CUP!!!!!
  14. on passenger cup holder mounts. I'm sure this has been gone over many times, but I can't seem to find any threads. The only place I can find to mount a cup holder is on the passenger hand rails. Gary's using the trick on the gas tank cover, but I need one myself. My brother had given us one that I put on from Cabella's but the first time I used it, away she went. I also had purchased a leather one that I liked, but it hung down to low and now I have a rub mark on the top of my side bag. I need one that sits up high enough that I can still get my side cover open. Any suggestions?
  15. I'm looking for ways to mount my Nextar Q3. I saw an add on E-bay for a mount that would attach to a 1" handle bar, but of course on a first generation Venture the handlebars aren't round OR 1" diameter. I could just use the suction cup on the windshield, but I'd really like something better. Any ideas?? How good does the suction cup work on a motorcycle?? Frank D.
  16. Do any of you drink coffee while you are riding? Can you post a photo of your cup holder? I cant find a good solution to this situation....

  18. I just received this from a friend in Utah, and thought it worth sharing with everyone: Hi, Terry! This is a video worth watching. I never realized that a wet dishcloth can be a one-size-fits-all lid to cover a fire in a pan! This is a dramatic video (30-second, very short) about how to deal with a common kitchen fire ... oil in a frying pan Read the following introduction, then watch the show. It's a real eye-opener!! At the Fire Fighting Training school they would demonstrate this with a deep fat fryer set on the fire field. An instructor would don a fire suit and using an 8 oz cup at the end of a 10 foot pole toss water onto the grease fire. The results got the attention of the students. The water, being heavier than oil, sinks to the bottom where it instantly becomes superheated. The explosive force of the steam blows the burning oil up and out. On the open field, it became a thirty foot high fireball that resembled a nuclear blast. Inside the confines of a kitchen, the fireball hits the ceiling and fills the entire room. Also, do not throw sugar or flour on a grease fire. One cup creates the explosive force of two sticks of dynamite. This is a powerful message ---- watch the video and don't forget what you see. Tell your whole family about this video. Or better yet, send this to them. Dana Terry
  19. Well, I tore into the starter clutch. It would "bang and grind" every once in a while and since it's a good time of year, I figured what the heck. Once I got it off, I looked down at the pillow, laid there to 'catch" the flying rotor (thanks guys.. that's a marvelous money saving trick!) and I saw three dowels, two spings and two spring cups... TWO??? The bronze (or???) housing that the springs and dowels fit into had ONE spring cup still in it... slightly recessed... so IT was NOT doing it's job. So I tried to tease it out by gently pushing it in (VERY slight movement)... after an hour I was able to get it flush with the edge. After another hour I was able to get it to wiggle out about 1/3rd. I finally got it out and saw that the sides looked ok... (IT'S on the left). http://www.bergall.org/temp/venture/starter/starter%20clutch2.jpg So I blew out the recessed hole it sat in with WD40 and tried slipping in one of the other spring and cups and it slid in and bounced up and down just fine. I started really looking at the three spring cups. ONE had the open end just pristine but TWO had edge damage and the one that had hung up actually had a nick (or future chip?) that was hanging out... the outer diameter of the three is .248 and the open end at the nick spot was .252! Must have been just enough to snag and disable a third of the clutch! (The "offending" cup is still on the right.) http://www.bergall.org/temp/venture/starter/starter%20clutch3.jpg The parts fiche shows an odd part in the bottom of that recess, no part number though. SOMETHING is causing the edge to chip and this just is NOT a good thing. Either the spring cup has too much slop in the hole (sure doesn't feel like it or that .004 "nick" would still fit?)) or the cups are bottoming into something and chipping. Nonetheless, it's enough that it caused the cup to seize. The idle gear #2, that has the race attached that the dowels drive against, had a distinctive "dance mark" pattern where the dowels had driven in so that's an easy solution to repair... http://www.bergall.org/temp/venture/starter/starter%20clutch1.jpg I figure, once the bike starts, centrifugal force throws the dowels back against the springs and the cups are driven deep into the hole and maybe THAT is what leads to the chipping...? Any ideas? The bike only has about 46,000 miles. Here's a breakdown of needed parts from two web sites and my local Yamaha shop... and the shop wonders why I won't buy from them??? 20. If anyone is in the area on Saturday, Jan 12, 2008, will be meeting with Ron (KanTornado) and Linda (Navigator) for breakfast at the Coffee Cup in St. Paul. As they are moving to Nevada, this will probably be the last time they are in MN, unless they have to come back to sell the house. So, any of the MN members and the WI members who are close enough to make it, as well as anyone else who just happens to be in the area, please feel free to join us. The Coffee Cup is located on the corner of Rice and Arlington in St. Paul. Nice little biker friendly restaurant. Great food and even better prices. Hope to see a few of you there.
  21. always looking for a way to put somthing else on the bike been looking for a good cup holder and i found this:thumbsup2: http://65.102.174.116/rammount/search.aspx?searchTerm=cup+holder
  22. Went to the 25th anniversary Muleshoe Roadriders Run Saturday and found a vendor that makes passenger and rider cup holders for out bikes. His web site is www.tourkingcovers.com. He does not show them on his web site but he does have them. I got one for the passenger and took some pictures. The cool thing they are $22.00 each for those who are watching their nickles & dimes.
  23. Many of you are always looking for the perfect cup holder. Well post them here. Here is one I saw online today. Functional and affordable. http://www.bmcycles.com/accessories/accessories.htm
