  1. It wasn't to bad, but yes it did not feel as planted. I am also 300 pounds and it did hold air so that helped some. But I went with a Hagon shock to replace it and could not believe the difference.
  2. Or like in my case, all the oil had already leaked out so it was never wet, but never had oil either!!
  3. No working on bike. Still riding between snows. I did get the fairing put on my RSTD though!
  4. I found a deal on some Venture headers. I eventually want my bike completely blacked out. I am assuming but want to make sure the headers off a Venture are a direct swap for the ones on my 06 Tour Deluxe. If so I am going to go ahead and get them and get them coated black. Also I know if just doing slip ons, I do not need to rejet at all. I am assuming that if the headers are direct swap, I will need to do no kind of rejetting if I make the swap either. Am I correct? Thanks
  5. I thought about it, but I just got the bike and got it almost the way that I want it so I don't want to rip it apart yet to have everything done. I want to ride!!!!!!!
  6. So I just got a Reckless fairing for my new to me RSTD Midnight. The fairing came black gelcoated. The plan was that when the gelcoat started to fade, I would get it painted and clear coated. Well today our warehouse manager brought in some parts he had hydro dipped. They looked incredible. Just like paint and were even clear-coated afterwards. I couldn't even tell it wasn't paint. The shop locally where he had it done guarantees it for life from fading and peeling. That seems like a great deal. So now I might go ahead and do the fairing. Cost would be roughly $100. So to my questions: Has anyone done any parts with hydro dipping and if so how has it held up? I have a 2006 Midnight RSTD so everything is black. If I do this, I was planning on just going straight black on the fairing to match. Well looking at the website, I really like the carbon fiber film. So would a carbon fiber fairing look good on the rest of teh black bike?
  7. Got my Reckless on. Not the best pics. I will get more later when I actually get it out of the garage when there is no snow. Pretty easy install. It did sit a little far forward for me so I drilled some different holes in the mounting brackets to tilt it back some. Other than that no issues at all.
  8. I am the same way. I saved about $20K and decided it was time for a new bike. I came very close to buying a 2015 Road Glide. The problem was, $20K wouldn't have paid it off and I would have had a loan. I could not wrap my mind around spending all the play money on one unpaid toy. So I bought my perfect 06 RSTD for $4500 and have been ordering and adding all the accesories I could possibly want and I still have enough money to also buy my Vstrom adventure bike. Even after buying 2 bikes and accessorizing them, I will still have just under $10K in cash that I would have blown on one bike that still had a payment!
  9. I agree. One of our local Harley dealers won't even give you a trade price. There is a combined Yamaha, Kawasaki, Suzuki dealer right next door to them. If you bring anything but a Harley to trade, they call the owner of the "other" dealer to come over and give you a trade amount. He then cuts a check and gives it to the Harley dealer for your trade as your Harley down payment.
  10. I experienced the same thing in my search for my RSTD. A somewhat local dealer had an 07 with 2000 miles on it and a few add ons. They wanted $8K for it. While it had low mileage, it was still almost 8 years old and higher priced than everything around. I offered them $6500 cash and they turned me down a few times. I ended up with my 06 with 19K miles and in perfect condition for $4500. The dealership still has the 07 3 months later.
  11. Kyle, My Reckless should be at my house tomorrow. I got the Infinity Bluetooth head unit with just the 2 6.5" speakers. Reckless had a Xmas special so I ended up getting a free 12V outlet and the windshield trim as well. I did not get mine painted as I have a good painter here that will do it cheaper for me than Reckless wanted. I paid right at $800 for mine plus shipping. And it should bolt right up (hopefully). I have a 2006 RSTD. I will post some pics this week sometime. It might not get painted by then, but at least you can see another one before you make a decision.
  12. For me it is the ease of removal with the aftermarket fairing. I had a Venture and it was a pain in the a^^ to get the fairing off for anything. I sold the Venture and picked up the RSTD a couple months ago. I love having a fairing and tunes. The aftermarket will be so much quicker to remove for maintenance or any other reason that I might need to. My Reckless has shipped and is supposed to be here tomorrow.
  13. If you can fix it on your own, do it. I have no choice because my pancreas does not work like a normal person's. Most people's pancreas produces insulin on it's own to counter act the sugar in the body. Mine produces almost none. No where near enough to even counter act sugar brought in with even a healthy eating habit. I am 37 and have been on an insulin pump for over a year now. That is after several years of shooting myself in the belly with many different kinds of insulin with no luck. Doing well with the pump now. It is basically my pancreas. Before the pump, my sugar levels would stay anywhere from 300-500 even with 3-5 shots of insulin a day. Now I am at 80-110 all the time. My A1C went from 12-13 down to 6-7.
  14. Miele is great. I needed a new dishwasher and my brother in law works for a plumbing supply company. He got me a floor model for less than half the new cost. It is like the Ferrari of dishwashers!!!!!!!!!!
  15. I got socks!!! They are good socks and my favorites. Redhead lifetime warranty wool socks and some Real Tree hunting socks. I also did just buy my new to me RSTD a few weeks ago and ordered a fairing for it. My wife got her new Canon Rebel camera and we are going to Disney in 3 weeks with the kids. My son made out like a bandit from Santa (grandma and pop pop) He is the one on the middle dirt bike in one of the pics. Then my wife and sister were the secret santa elves (my wife is on the right). Great Xmas overall with the family.
  16. Here is me going incognito with the wife (one of our Xmas elves this year) and our kids and some of the cousins.
  17. I have a Reckless on the way. I ordered mine with just the 2 6.5” speakers and the Infinity Bluetooth head unit. My thought is that I can always add 2 more speakers later if needed. I might also mount an RSV trunk to mine so I still have 2 channels if I want to wire up the rear speakers as well. I did not get the amp from Reckless either. My brother in law found a sale at Best Buy on a small marine amp and picked it up for me and will wire it in for me. I can’t wait for the fairing to come in and once mounted, I will post some pics as well.
  18. Sold my 99 RSV in June. Just picked up an 06 RSTD Midnight (I think). 19K miles and the only tiny flaw is 1 scratch on the top of one of the saddlebags. It is so small that if the bike is dusty, you can't even see it. Also I am amazed that it is the original windshield. It looks brand new with no wear on it at all. New tires. Very well kept. K&N filters. Bought from original owner. Soft dust cover and a rain cover with it. I paid $4500.
  19. We are always at my parents and we always have turkey, ham, mashed potatoes, etc. I have tried to make the turducen. Didn't go over to well. This year my wife's employer through in another option instead of just a ham or turkey. They also gave the option of a leg of lamb and I made her get that. We love lamb, but I am sure the rest of my closed minded family will snub their nose at it!! More for me!!
  20. I know that a lot of people swap the RSTD bars to the RSV for wider bars and more pullback. So does that mean that I can throw a set of RSV bars directly on my RSTD? I am pretty tall and actually liked the RSV bars. Just sitting on the RSTD, the reach and angles feel funny to me for some reason. I am thinking I could put the RSV bars on pretty quickly without having to change any control wires or hoses. So has anyone done this? I would actually like mini apes eventually, but with Xmas close, I am trying to keep costs down for now.
  21. I have talked to someone who did something similar to his bike. He said the reason was the thefts in his area. He said to help prevent the bike from being targeted, he wanted to make it look as crappy as possible. Whether that was the truth or not, it seems like a good idea. That is going to be my excuse now when asked why I don't clean my bikes!!!!
  22. I don't know!! Seeing Puc's pics, I think he could pack all that with no trailer and still have room for him and Tippy!!!!!!!!!!!!
  23. I just ordered a reckless fairing for my newly aquired RSTD. It will have an Infinity blue tooth head unit and 2 front speakers.
  24. I love deep fried turkey and we do some throughout the year. I just get nervous with so many kids running around that one of them will end up getting burned somehow. Plus we have some family members coming that are highly allergic to peanut oil so we would definetely not be using the peanut oil!
  25. So I am 37 years old and this will be the first time in my life I am being trusted to cook the turkey for Thanksgiving. I do all the cooking for my immediate family and cook whole pigs, goats, lambs, etc. I also do a lot of meat smoking and regular grilling. So I will be cooking the turkey for my family and my wife's family tomorrow. I am sure it will be nitpicked for fun. This also tells me that my dad and father in law are getting old and I am starting to take over some. I still remember when my dad started cooking the holiday meals instead of grandpa. So off to the kitchen I go to rub my turkey with some Tony Chachere's original cajun spice so the flavor can soak in over night!!!!!!!!!!!
