    Folks, Wondering if these MKII items will fit on a MKI... Travel trunk? (My helment won't fit in my MKI trunk, and see that the MKII trunk is much deeper). Will a MKII trunk fit without much trouble? Passenger footboard mounting plate? I really like the MKII style of flip-down/flip-up footboard, compared to the MKI things I have. Will a MKII mounting plate fit without too much trouble, and will the muffler mounting be compatible? Thanks to all for your input.

    Folks, I got my new Dunlop Elite III's (front and rear) on this morning (replacing the old 491 on rear & 404 on front) - what an incredible difference!!! My 84 VR handles like a completely different machine. Surefooted and even a bigger thrill to ride than before. Thanks to all who recommended them ... They ROCK! RB

    Hi Kevin, No problem. I didn't take your info any such way. I'm glad we got the part named so folks will recognize it. The odd (and perplexing) thing is that going through all of the manuals and parts sheets I've got, the only vague reference I could find was one line drawing pointing to it as a driving light. None of the fairing drawings shows it ... none of the lighting breakouts shows it. But nevertheless - we've identitifed it now with part number & possible replacement sources. Everybody's been great in chiming in with input - and I really appreciate it. Hopefully KIC will locate his spare & get back to me. In the meantime, I superglued the 3 larger chunks of the breakout back in as a semi patch - and the rest are basically crumbs. Thanks again,

    Folks, (On Kevin's recommendation below, let's call it: Right Front Turn Signal) My 84VR MKI had an unfortunate "garage crash" the other day for no apparent reason (aside from the sudden escape of front fork air). I had a 1x4 under the side stand (so she doesn't lean so much). I'm getting ready to replace the tires, and she'd been sitting for a couple of days since our last ride. So when I say "for no aparent reason" I mean I bent down to see just how bad the tread was on the front (cracks between the tread), and as soon as I tapped on the tire, the front end dropped 3-4 inches (air pressure had dropped to zero while she was sitting-obviously another issue), and because she had that 1x4 under the side stand, she dumped over on the right side, and crashed against a ladder hanging on a rack. The impact cracked the lens cover on the driving light, and the right mirror post. So getting on with my question: I've searched all of the service and parts manuals and can't find anything about a replacement lens. The only reference I've been able to find is a diagram calling out "driving light" ... with no parts breakdown or service procedure. So I don't know if the lens is available, or if I'm looking at replacing the whole light. Either way - no part numbers are called out. Is there a part number for the lens? And where can I find a replacement? Anybody got a used one they're willing to sell? Would also like to replace the mirror - although I can live with it for now. Any input is much appreciated.

    I second the recommendation to give the SeaFoam a try. It did wonders for my old sweetie when I got her from the previous owner (who didn't really do much in the recent past to keep her up)

    Folks, The scoot in question is my 84 VR MKI with CLASS. Question is; where does the air go? ... or better yet, where is it coming out? Seems as though every time I go for a dialy ride, I have to add some air to the front forks via the CLASS compressor - I like the feel at about 16-18 lbs. And if I skip a day or so, the forks are flat empty, and have to go from zero to 16-18 lbs. Is this normal? Where is the air leaking from? What's the remedy? I'll be putting in Progressives once the riding season is coming to a close, so fork air won't be so critical - but for now, I'd like some input on how that air is getting out. Thanks so much - any input is much appreciated.

    Thanks, Markus. I'm currently running 491 on rear & 404 on front. They're eat-up, chewed-up, and poorly worn. Really looking for a different tread profile. It's between Avon Venoms & Elite 3's for me. & I can get a better deal locally on the E3's. But the question remains ... Radial or Bias Touring???

    Well folks, it's that time for me too. Reading all about what's what on forums & have set my sights in Elite III's. But big question ... Shops show Elite 3 Radials, as well as Elite 3 Bias Touring:confused24: ... For my 84 VR MKI. For you 1st gen riders recommending E3's, is it Radial or Bias Touring? Thanks so much.

    Andy, I've followed your posts on fixing plastic body parts since I have some of that to do to my own blonde 84 VR. I've got virtually that same bike (same color and year). Your repairs look great and I hope my own turn out that well. Big question - where did you get the paint to touch up with, and what's the color key? As I said, I've got the same repairs to do, and yours look great! Also, looks like you did quite a few add ons on the rear ... mufflers, tail section chrome etc ... did you fit some MKII items to your MKI? Is there a trick to that? Thanks so much. Rick

    Good GOD! I just mounted the Rigid Industries SPOTS just under the air intakes like some of the other guys did. I started my ride 'bout 8pm, and rode till the sun was down. After darkness set in full, hardly any oncoming traffic didn't flash their highs at me like crazy. These things are BRIGHT!!! Watch out, if you're thinking 'bout the spots for reach (like I did), think again. Unless you're alone on the road after dark, you're gonna make some enemies running them all the time. And under those conditions, not sure if the floods would make much difference. Now, granted, I got these mainy for daytime visibility, and I really don't ride after dark (I have a big problem with hitting critters ... OK--DEER) ... But rest assured, they seem more useful as daytime visibility amps ... and supplementary night-time road lights when no oncoming traffic is near. Sure wish there was some sort of dimmer I could rig up. Anybody got any thoughts?? But all-in-all, I'm glad I read reddevilmedic's post about the Rigids ... they really do the job I got them for ... and then some. Rick

    Don, Outstanding! Thanks so much for sharing. I'd been stressing about pulling the front end apart on my 84VR - - or worse, paying someone willing and able to do it. I did the film strip thing as described, and presto ... all dried up. Let's hope the fix holds and I can take that detail off my to do list. Now, if taking care of the machine flinging out of second gear would be as easy, I'd be a really happy camper. But we all know what that's all about - and ain't no film strip trick gonna help that one. Thanks again, Rick Burnsville, MN
