  1. I picked these up off ebay for $7.99 each. They say no brackets included but mine came with brackets. I had to tweak them just a little to get them facing forward instead of upward. http://www.sharkmotorcycleaudio.com/product/SHKSPEAKERS/shark-SHKSPEAKERS-1-extra-chrome-or-black-waterproof-marine-speaker.html

  3. I"ve done all my rainy weekend maintenance and also ordered a sylvania silverstar ultra bulb for my headlight. Just wondering if I should order a porcelain plug for it or will the original be ok. Thanks, Ray.
  4. Thanks for all the great info everyone. I was referring to the suspension pressure not the tire. I don't have the class system, my pressure adjust is manual. I like the idea of painting the headlight bezel, i'll grab a can of bright white when I stop at wally world to look at lights. One more night of work and then I get to start tinkering, it's supposed to rain all weekend anyway.
  5. As some of you already know I bought my bike as a basket case. On my first weekend on it I lost a pin in the shift segment and came 15 miles home in 1st gear. I got it back together after waiting for the parts and went out on Easter Sunday for an 80 mile ride. It ran great. I'm going to put new brake pads in it and do the starter upgrade this weekend and have a few more things to work on. 1st. My choke will not stay engaged on its own. I can give it full choke and it fires right up, but when released the choke rotates off on its own. Is there an adjustment i'm missing or is something just worn out? 2nd. Idle...after my trip home in first gear when I lost my pin in the shift segment it helped my carbs a lot, but now it's idling at about 1100 rpm, what should it be set at? 3rd. Rear air, My bike is a standard and i'm wondering what pressure I should be running it at. I'm 350#s and will be the only person on the bike. Also should this be set with me on the bike or freestanding? 4th and last...for now. Lighting, I am a truck driver and work overnights, I live 30 miles north of Minneapolis. My trip home in the morning is opposite of traffic but a lot of people cross the northbound side to get to the southbound lanes. I'm thinking of some simple driving lights for better visibility but would like to see how those of you who are running them have them mounted. Pics would be helpfull. Thanks to everyone on this site, putting this bike together and getting it into good riding shape has been a breeze with all your help.
  6. I need a right side storage compartment lid for my 84. I need the full size lid. Let me know, thanks, Ray
  7. The white lamp lights up when I use the toggle to turn the headlight on. I pulled the display and found no bad solderings, but I re-soldered them anyway. I have found from pics of others bikes and ebay ads that someone has changed the right hand controls, upon disassembling them I found they only have one set of contacts in the start switch. I'm now thinking this is most likely the problem and will order a set of originals off ebay. Thanks for all the help. Ray
  8. Thanks, I already checked the switch but didn't know about the display. I will check that later tonite.
  9. All my lights work except the headlight? I bought the bike in pieces, I was told by the previous owner that they tore it apart trying to get the headlight working. I reassembled it and it runs great. The led goes through its checklist and everything checks out fine. I have power to and from the fusebox, but no headlight. I went to the harness behind the headlight and fed the system from there on a toggle switch with a fuse and it works fine, high and low beam. I can probably ride it forever like this but I would still like to find the problem and return it to the stock setup. Any ideas would be appreciated. Thanks, Ray.
  10. Sounds like a fuel pressure regulator is bad. Unplug the vacuum line to it and rev the engine and see if it leaks gas.
  11. I never would have thought when I started reading this post(two and a half hours ago) that the garage wasn't finished yet!!! HOLY CRAP!!!! I think I got my 12 dollars worth just reading this from beginning to UMMMM halfway finished!!! hahahaha. Good luck gettin' her done Dan.
  12. Hello everyone, i'm happy to join the family. Now on to my problem. About a month ago I came across an ad on craigslist for an 84 yamaha 1200 in pieces for $600. I immediately answered the ad, and to my surprise I found a Venture. I negotiated it to $500 and brought it home. I assembled it and got it running right, which was a job in itself as it had been sitting for 5 years(ethanol sucks!!!). I went out for my first ride on it Friday and it was great. After about 75 miles I put it back into the garage for the night. Saturday afternoon I fired it up and headed out again. After about 15 miles it started shifting funny, stuck in gear unless slowing, etc. It then stayed in first gear and would not shift up. 15 miles home in first gear plus some seafoam really helped my carbs. Thanks to a post from pegscraper I knew exactly what to look for. I pulled the clutch to find a bent tab on the shift drum and a missing pin. I will run to the local bike shop and grab the parts to throw it back together this week. The only problem is the missing pin, it's nowhere to be found. Probably in the bottom of the crankcase. So how should I go about getting it out? After running it 15 miles all through the rpm range getting the bike home i'm thinking the pin could probably spend the rest of its days in there harmlessly. I would love to ride this thing through the summer and tear it down in the fall as it has the normal second gear issue that the first gens are known for anyway. What do you guys suggest.
