  2. Rode three of four times this past week. We have had some decent weather in the south of Indiana this winter. did ride on New Years Day. About 40 miles, 30* temps. Never know from day to day what the temps will be. Don't like the weather? wait a day it will change. Chuckles
  3. 1950 Chevy two door sedan, 4-track tape player in the glove compartment. CYRCLE - Red Rubber Ball Louis Armstrong - Wonderful Life Tommy James - all of his Listening to WJJD in Chicago on AM radio. then came WLS and finally FM
  4. I took a Christmas ride also. Was 54 degrees in beautiful sunny Southern Indiana. Stopped and saw my wife while she was working (convenient store) and then on the the in-laws. Not a long ride but was beautiful all the same. Hope New Years day is just as nice. always like to start the new year off on the right note. Chuckles
  5. search for Hippo Hands. they are great for cold weather riding.
  6. THE ONLY WAY TO GO Chuck
  7. I know I'm not in the running, but my '86 has 116,xxx on her now. Had 101,000 when I got it last year. Chuck
  8. These are all very good ideas. What I have been doing is printing all the info from the archives and putting them into a loose leaf binder. All the ones for plastic repair in one section. The ones on engine repair ect. in another section and so on. I have now two binders in the garage. when I need to work on something I get the serivce manual and the binders and go to work. I have also copied the service manual to C.D. that I use in my laptop in the garage also. Just my .02.
  9. Just needed some more names at this time. We have two National Guard units from our area that are leaving in the near future. Will be approximatly 450 people at that time. But with the holidays coming up thought if I could get a few names maybe we could send out some packages at this time. Didn't mean to hijack the thread, just thought maybe we could help in getting some packages for the holidays. Not wanting to steal the thunder but just help in some way. Chuckles
  10. Black Owl,I am the president of Rolling Thunder, IN. Chapter 7, we send care packages to the troops quite often. Have enough items to fill many packages. If you could send me some names and addresses, we would be very happy to send the packages. As I said we have plenty of items to send but need some addresses. Just an idea. Chuckles
  11. Looks like some great roads. Probally many roads in your area that were not aware of . Will have to check some of these out in my area. Great reasource for next spring. Chuckles
  12. I doubt that this gentleman will ever see a dime of the ruling. But maybe this will wake up a few more people to the hate-mongering this group puts out. I have been on two missions with the Patriot Guard that they have been to. Breaks my heart to see our Flag treated the way it is when these people are at the funerals, along with their using the children of their congregation in the manner they do it. Proud Patriot Guard Rider for the past two years. Chuckles
  13. 117,000 on my '86 with no major problems. Looking forward to many more miles and smiles. Chuckles
  14. I totally agree. These bikes are made to run and they run forever. I was really surprised at how much power these things make. Some of the other makes are really surprised when I show them my tail lights. '86 with 116,000 miles and still runs like a sport bike. Enjoy the ride and ride it like you stole it. Chuckles
  15. Popeye, I hear you. My '86 with 114,xxx miles still runs strong and have no problem with the engine. I guess I'm just not used to bikes running that many miles with no serious problems. If I can get the '83 I will probally just remove the Voyager kit and install it on my "86. Then keep the "83 for parts. Chuck
  16. Muffinman, have a chance to pick up an '83 with the Voyager kit already installed, but has the front end wiped out. I was just concerned about the mileage on my '86 engine. If I get this bike I may just swap the kit onto my bike. Everything I have read this should be a straight forward swap. Chuck
  17. I figured this would be the best place to post this. I have access to an engine from and '83 VR. HOw much trouble would it be to replace the engine from an '86 VR with one from an '83? My bike has 115,000 miles and the '83 has only 24,000. If possible I would like to swap these engines. I know someone has done this, need to know what is involved. Chuck
  18. Squeeze, I'll have to check to see if I got the washer in the right place. May not have put it back properly. Chuck
  19. I pulled the stator cover off and the cover for the clutch on the left side. Shifter rod broke at the front knuckle and had previously been welded. As I said I replaced it with a piece of 1/4" stainless rod (welded to the knuckles). It'a a b**** getting everything back in place as I don't have the smallest hands by any means, but kept at it until I had everything lined back up. Still need to replace the gasket on the trans cover. Now it markes it place like some other older bikes. Put the bike on the center stand and with a small flashlight look downward right above the trans. cover and behind the stator cover. These were originally a threaded rod that screwed into the two knuckles. I believe it was for adjustment. Mine was in almost an "S" curve when both pieces were held together. Sorry, but I was so Pi**ed I didn't think to take pics. The bike left me and my fiance' stranded 40 miles from home and had to wait for someone to come get us with my van and trailer. Not really such a bad job, just time consuming.
  20. Bid Daddy, on my '86 Royale just a few weeks ago the shift rod between the two knuckles broke. Had noticed the same feel that you are talking about. It had been welded before with a piece of cold roll rod about 3/16th in dia. I tore the bike apart and replaced the rod with a piece of 1/4 inch stainless rod about 3" long. Soldi feel and the best shifting I have had with the bike. I have had it about a year and a half. You can look just above the trans. plate on the left side of the bike. Should be able to see the rod, if it looks like it is bent that may be the problem Chuck
  21. Yeah, I would be interested in some plans also. I know that I can make one for a lot less than they want for the conversion kits. Chuck
