Get a tire tread depth gage and measure your tires. Compare that with the published tread depth for new tires and you should get a pretty good estimate of the percent of tire tread remaining. This will tell you how many miles are left in them, assuming your riding habits remain the same. I always allow a little room because some tires wear slightly faster on the bottom. Also don't forget to allow for the 2/32 of tread that will not be used. Mike

I need your opinions

Welcome to the forum. You will find a variety of differing opinions on everything here. I will pass along a couple of mine. The venture is extremely comfortable and stable. I like the stock seat very much and find it very comfortable. Power to pass without shifting? Depends on what gear you are in and how fast you are going. If this is an issue consider the V-max rear end modification. Buffeting. At 5ft 11in I get none in the front seat and my wife who is a short 5ft gets none in the back. If that becomes an issue taller windshields are available. The v-4 1300 provides good power as long as adequate rpms are maintained. Best of luck to you and welcome again. Mike -

Don If it is not on my computer and is making you some money then it is ok with me. Mike

These things just started showing up on my computer. So far it seems limited to this forum. I hate it when every other word is underlined and highlighted. Click and it will take you to an ad for who knows what. I sure hope Freebird is getting paid for this. Mike

Brian The fuel pump on your car has a timer built into the ignition. It will only allow the pump to run for a couple of seconds. Then it will cycle off whether pressure is built up or not. Normally this is ok because there is some residual pressure in the fuel lines. If the pump or regulator check valves are leaking there will be no residual pressure in the lines. In that case the cycle time will be to short. Full pressure will not be built. And the car will not start. If that happens cycle the key a few times without cranking. Allow a few seconds between cycles for the pump electronics to reset. This should help the pump pressurize the system. Then try to start it. If this works it may be pump time. Mike

Sounds a bit like the fuel pressure regulator valve or the check valve in the fuel pump may be sticking on occasion. The next time it does this slowly cycle the key a few times to give the fuel pump a chance to build pressure. Then see if it starts. Mike

Freebird I do not believe it is an error on the forum. I think it has something to do with Internet Explorer. In my case it happens after I use I-spell. Then if I go anywhere in the text and 'backspace' three or four times all is lost. It doesn't do it every time but frequently. Mike

Yep. Happens to me too. Same result as you. Mike

Warranty warranty warranty Squelch is a threshold. It is like a door spring. Set it so that every little nusance can't open it but the stronger signals can. Once open though everything comes through. It has no effect on volume. Mike

Hi Dale Welcome to the forum. Sign up and become a full member. There is a ton of friendship here. And besides that we love to rib a Harley rider from time to time. You may find someone who has taken or is looking to take the trip you are posting about. Mike

Hi Dale Welcome. We are on the second generation and have been since 1999. I use the CB radio a lot when riding in groups or with friends. It is much easier and better than a cel phone for bike to bike communication. With a frame mounted fairing the headlight does not turn. Mike

There are very few places where a landlord isn't required to repair this kind of damage very quickly. That said your remedies are 1. Work it out with the landlord. 2. Have it repaired and deduct the cost from your rent. 3. Give notice of unfit living conditions and move out. 4. Live with it. There are a lot of personal variables that can enter into these decisions. So it is hard to provide advice. If you do move out and the landlord dings your credit you are allowed to reply in writing to the negative report. Your reply must then also be included with any future credit reports. Best of Luck Mike

Yep several times. Picking it up isn't to bad once you have done it. So here is my tip. Take your time. Make sure you don't forget the three things I forgot. They are. 1. Turn the ignition off. 2. Put it in gear. There is nothing quite like trying to keep this big thing from rolling while you are lifting it. 3. Put the side stand down. I lifted mine from the right side once where I left the bike out of gear and the side stand up. When I got the bike lifted I discovered it wanted to roll down hill. With the side stand and shifter on the other side I was in a real fix. Mike

Dunlop makes the E-3 which generaly gets good reviews. I am using the new 'Bridgestone Exedra MAX' multi compound which I am very happy with. The original tires were either 'Dunlop 404s' or 'Bridgestone Exedra' both of which get some complaints but are available in whitewall. Then of course there are all the other tire makers, each with good and bad points. These bikes are big and heavy. Good tires are critical. Mike -
Miles is correct in that the sensor mounts to the pinion gear. But it takes 33 pinion ring gear meshes for the ring gear to go around one time. That means 33 pinion teeth must pass under the sensor for each ring gear revolution with either rear end. As both have a 33 tooth ring gear. So in both rear ends the speed sensor will see 33 pulses for each wheel revolution. The speedometer should be unaffected. Mike
