1. Should work. Mike
2. Mike There was one person a few years ago who posted he did not like the extra torque and was changing back. That is the only post I have ever seen on someone not being completely satisfied with this modification. MikeWa
3. First I agree with the above posts. Make sure your CB antenna is on the left side. Due to the poor ground plane presented on these bikes the normal range is only one to three miles. Also be sure to keep the mic very close to your mouth. Squelch is like an adjustable door spring. It controls how strong of a signal it takes to open the receiver door. Just keep in mind that once open all signals weak and strong will come through. You can keep it set up high enough to prevent every little weak or distant signal from disturbing you. It only affects the receiving portion of your CB. SWR or standing wave ratio is your antenna adjustment. Setting it requires a special meter and cable adapter. The actual adjustment is pretty easy but it does require that you remove the trunk. Since most motorcycle shops will have no idea how to adjust SWR I recommend you remove the trunk and take the bike to a CB radio shop and watch how they do it. It should only take a couple of minutes and then you will know how. But generally SWR never needs to be readjusted unless something gets changed such as the antenna. Finally there are internal adjustments in the CB unit for power and modulation but they are somewhat difficult. So if all of the above does not solve the issues it mat be time to try a replacement CB unit. Best of Luck Mike

5. Yes on both counts plus wind and speed. Mike
6. If you are ok on a Gpldwing or a Harley Ultra you should be ok on the Venture. Mike
7. Yes it will work. Just don't get it so low it hits the tank. Mike
8. And you believe there are no little glitches with a Goldwing? :rotf: Mike
9. The 09 I was looking at seemed to be more of a gold biased cream color to me. Colorrite identifies it as "Light Yellowish Gray Metallic #9 (LYNM9)". Mike
10. If your trunk does not open far enough just lift the lid until it points straight up. The hinge will reset to that position. Mike
11. Usually you can just lift the lid until it points straight up. The hinge will take a new set and all will be well. Mike
12. After a cab ride to the store and a trip to the dealer I am not sure how much you saved by waiting to change your battery. Mike
13. Sorry to hear you dropped your Venture. To scratch the fairing you must have gone all the way over. Beyond the engine guard. Usually scratches the mirror the fairing and bends the engine guard and passing lamps if you have them. This also makes the bike very difficult to get upright. They don't show how to pick up a Venture this far over on Ride Like A Pro. So best of luck with that. Although there have been some leakage problems with the shock I have not seen a shock leak from being tipped over. But I suppose it is possible. I have seen coolant come out after being tipped. It can run down under the seat and drop by the side stand. You could also get some differential fluid out of the vent near the back wheel. It is even possible to get a little oil from the air box vent lines. Are you sure the fluid is from your bike? Stick your finger in the differential fill hole and see if it matches. Good Luck Mike
14. With the v-max rear end your rpm will be a little higher in each gear for any given speed. About 10%. That puts the engine closer to it's power band. So it will accelerate much faster. The combined increase in rpm and acceleration means it will be easier to bump into the rev limiter. Where I used to cruise in 4th gear at 60 mph I can now cruise in fifth and still have power to speed up without downshifting. Although if I really want to nail it I can go to fourth or even third. Fifth gear used to be useless. Now it is very useful. Of course I can still cruise in fourth and frequently do especialy in the twisties. Mike
15. A twelve volt battery should be 12.6 to 13.2 volts depending on the battery type. Either is 90% discharged at 12 volt static, unloaded, reading. (requires an accurate meter). Mike
16. You are going to have some heat. Good boots help. Aslo these Yamaha vents can be opened to provice air flow. I really appriciate them in the summer. Mike
17. Agreed. I have even used an old coat hanger for a radio antenna with surprisingly good results. Mike
18. You might want to practice a little first. You will find the rev limiter is much easier to bump into. Try these shift points 30-60-90 mph for !st second and third. After that you are on your own. Mike

Hi Rick
20. Warped rotor.
21. The best mileage I ever got with the stock rear end was 44mpg on the first leg of a long trip. The average was about 35mpg. Yesterday I was part of a Patriot Guard escort that went 175 miles from JBLM to Yakima WA. We got stuck in a long traffic jam due to an accident on Snoqualmie Pass that was stop and go with lots of idling for several miles. And during some stretches we reached speeds over 70mph. Thats coastal, mountain and desert. High speed and low speed. Still when I filled up at the end I got 44mpg. And that is with the V-Max rear end. Also I must say that the bike handles these low speed endurance tests (traffic jams) much much better with the lower gear. A couple of days ago I had an opportunity to run up a long freeway on ramp beside a 2012 Harley Ultra Screaming Eagle 110. Well I didn't beat him by much but I did beat him. So when it comes to the big heavy cruisers the Venture is no slouch especially with the max rear end. Mike
22. You can let Ken know this forum is still accepting new members. Mike
23. The rear end swap was not invented by me. I learned about it here. http://www.venturerider.org/forum/showthread.php?t=13266 In my opinion it is the best mod ever for these bikes. As for getting on and off with the wife. Everyone will find their own way. For me I have my wife climb on first. If the bike is leaning so far it is hard to pick up I just move it. Or put something under the side stand. Or have my wife lean right. That is what works for us.
24. There are as many opinions on tires as there are tire brands. Do your research and pick what works for you. Now in answer to your question. Yes Bridgestone Exedra tires were original equipment as were Dunlap 404s. I have used both on my bike. Both were ok with tire life over 10k miles. As the Exedras wore beyond 50% tire noise increased especially when cornering. I am now using the newer Exedra Max tires with the multi rubber compound. I have been happy with them. Mike
25. I usually just put them on hold. I tell them "hold on I'll be right with you. And I lay the phone down. Then I try to keep them on the line as long as possible. I pick up the every couple of minutes with "hi dummy you still there? Just another minute longer. I'll be right with you". Lots of fun. We used to get obscene phone calls from time to time until I discovered this technique. They never have a chance to say anything. They finally just give up and hang up. We don't get those calls anymore. But there seems to be no end to telemarketers. Mike
