  1. Maybe next time. I took it back to Wally world and they put it on their little "battery checker thingy" and it said the battery was OK. I told her to warranty it out and they gave me a new battery for free (mine was less than a year old). So the price was right and the new battery works fine. Condor: The battery maintainer seems to be working fine. Thanks for all the replies. Jim
  2. Good question. I figured the PO and me just let the first one sit too long without running. Maybe 4-5 months. The second one is Wally World. What can I say?? Obviously a bad choice. I thought I was doing good running a maintainer on it.
  3. Well, I just pulled the tank and checked the switch. Igniition switch was good. While I was scratching my head I checked the battery with the key off and had 13.1 volts. Decided to check it with the key on and HAD ONLY .4 VOLT. Then I come inside to post latest findings and find that several of y'all had already figured it out. Man, y'all are good. The battery came from Wally World and has always been on a Schumacher maintener since it was new less than a year ago. I guess I will see what Wally says tomorrow. Thanks for all the replies and safe traveling. Jim
  4. Starter relay checked good. Cables were very tight and so was the connector. Now I guess pull the tank and check the infamous switch. (I do have passing lights and no relay I am sure) That will be rectifiered:)
  5. Don, Sounds like you think it is the ignition switch. I thought so at first. Then sorta changed my mind when I kept getting the clicking at the starter relay. One of the first things I did was wire brush the battery terminals and cables and tighten them with a wrench instead of the screwdriver. I was getting good voltage reading before and after from the positive terminal to the MC frame. I found the starter relay and removed it. (What a pain) Now rigging up to test it per the service manual. If it checks OK will reinstall it and remove the gas tank and check the ignition switch. It seems like now I should have done that first:detective: Thanks for the reply. Headin out. More later.
  6. O7 RSV has been sitting for 17 days. Turned on key. Lights came on. Hit start button. Heard click and lights go out. That's all. Turned key off and back on. Nothing. No lights, nothing. Thinking ignition switch is bad since I have been reading a lot about that here. After about a minute I turned the key back on. Lights came on. Everything looked normal. Hit start button. Same thing. Heard click. Lights go out. Did this several times. Always had to wait about a minute before switch would work. Checked battery and serviced cables and posts. Battery only 1 year old and has been on battery maintainer. Battery showed 12.98 volts. Checked fuses in left side fuse box. Checked battery + to frame. Full voltage. From all I have been able to glean from this extremely informative site I believe it is my starter relay or its connections. How do I get to it??? Or am I on the wrong track?? Any ideas or suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Jim
  7. I believe stock is 17" high. Mine is 4" shorter and 4" wider. I'm 6'2" and get a little buffeting but so far it doesn't bother me. Sorta like a dog with his head out the window. I don't ride 2 up. That would make a difference if I had a second seater. I would not dream of buying a shield from Yamaha.$$$$$$$$
  8. seems to run real good through 1st and 2nd after that popping and backfiring. idle seems fine as does revving it up while parked. This may sound like a dumb question but did you have the cowlings off while riding it? I had both cowlings off and a bent left engine guard and mine was doing the exact same thing. Would not run in 3rd gear. Peroid. Just cough and sputter. I got my new engine guard, installed it and the cowlings and it never happened again. Three thousand miles later and it still runs great. Me, my brother and son never figured it out. Sounds like you got it going but I'm still just curious since I never knew what was wrong with mine. Enjoy the Venture.
  9. I am at work and can't remember if they are 1" or 1.5" but I have risers on mine and you can see there is no problem with fitting. I was concerned about the same thing but Ponch said no problem and was right. I had a better picture at home but I am not there:doh:
  10. I'm not sure where the best place to post this is but this looks like as good a place as any. I hope I have attached pictures of Ponch's guage on my 07 RSV so you can see what they look like. I got the primered metal plate and painted it to match the 07 blue then Ponch came over and basically installed them with me as gofer. Many many thanks for that, Ponch. And did I mention that he rode over in the rain to do it. It is so nice to have something useful (to me) in that slot and to be able to see what your engine is doing. Thanks again Ponch. If someone needs a slightly used cassette player, I have one for shipping cost.
  11. I just ordered some EBC sintered pads off Amazon.com yesterday. They had the best price plus shipping I could find.
  12. Let's see if I can get it rite? this time. After further review, I did order the correct paint, "DARK purplish blue metallic". What they sent was "Deep purplish blue metallic", which is a little lighter color and used on some other Yammy models. When I called ColorRite about it, they immediately saw their error and are now shipping me the correct paint. Kudos to ColorRite. They corrected their error and now I have to correct mine when the paint arrives.
  13. I just ordered one from cyclepartswarehouse.com complete with damper and shipping for $133. Broken tabs was not my problem!
  14. I purchased a spray can of Colorite's Deep Purplish Blue Metallic Yamaha Blue to do some touch up on my '07 RSV fairing, tank, cowling and trunk. Ole dumb me, I didn't do any test painting. Wanted to "giterdone" and ride. Big mistake. I now have a blue camoflage RSV. New paint was much lighter. Still scratching my head about what to do but will definitely contact ColoRite. Maybe I ordered the wrong paint. No. I just checked my order. I ordered the correct paint DPBML. They shipped DPBMC. I didn't catch or know there was a difference. The can said Deep Purplish Blue Metallic. Whose fault. Mine I guess since I have the camoflage job. Bottom line, make sure you get what you order. Hope this helps. Jim
  15. Thanks a bunch for the tip. I would have never thought of the fishing line trick. Just Jim
  16. How did you take your eyebrows off? I have been thinking about doing the same thing but I don't want to foul up the paint.
  17. That ole '53 Duo Glide was pretty comfy. Course my butt was much younger then. My memory was better too. Just dreamin. "You can't control the wind but you can adjust your sail"
