Well I have been Ventureless for 4 months now. After I sold it I missed the big bruiser/cruiser and about a month later I bought a nice low mileage '08 (7700mi) Ultra Classic Anniversary Edition. It has been 50 years since I owned a Harley and I figured I needed to own 1 more while I can still ride. I really enjoyed the 6 years with the RSV. Crowned roads in the USA cause more wear on the left side of MC tires. Left turns being longer due to driving on the RH side also contribute to LH side wear. Welcome to the dark side. Jim

I fit the profile. I bought a new '09 FJR AE model 3 years ago and have really enjoyed it. I thought when I bought it I would sell the Venture but I still enjoy riding it and put about the same miles per year on both. 99% of my riding is 1 up and the FJR is so smooth and powerful it is just a fun bike to ride. My '09 is a 2nd Gen bike. It seems that most of the FJR riders concerns were addressed with the 3rd Gen such as cruise control, electronic suspension, ride by wire, traction control, etc. Very much unlike how Yamaha treated rider concerns on the Venture. I would definitely recommend the 3rd Gen If I was looking to going to 1 bike and needed 2 up and trailering, a Wing would be the first thing on my mind. Did I mention the FJR is a fun bike to ride? I agree totally with the smile on your face comment and would add that driving awards would be easy to collect. I need cruise control!!!

Thanks for the excellent reminder post. I also run the EBC HH pads but I am definitely going to try the Kevlar on the rear next time. I am very aware of the "lock up" issue with the rear. I learn something every time I surf this site. Ride Safe, Jim

The rear diff just pulls off the drive shaft. I had to put my shaft in a vise and pull the diff off. There is a spring behind it so don't lose it. See the last sentence in the attached bulletin regarding the rear spline lubrication. Jim

Sarge, I had a similar problem a few months back and found the problem was a bad wire under the seat just behind the battery where my modulator for the tail lights is hooked up. Repaired the wire and good to go. Hope yours is that simple. Jim

I have over 4k miles on my 130/90/16 MCII on the front with a CT on the rear and I am satisfied with the results. The bike shop that mounts my tires only uses dynabeads to balance and I have been satisfied with that also. A different shop mounted my rear CT so I have lead weights on it. I run 40 psi front and rear.

I remember what a PITA it was to remove those bolts the first time I took off the fairing. I used a ball type allen wrench and then I bought a spacer from someone that lowers the light bar making it easy to remove. I can't remember who it was but to me it was well worth the +-$30. Endeavor to persevere.

Wade pretty much nailed it. If you don't keep the screen up you get a lot of bugs in your teeth.

You might want to try the ABS cement from Lowes or Home Depot. I have used it for minor cracks, etc. All out Tupperware is ABS.

40 psi front and rear. I was running an Avon Venom front and Kumho CT rear with leveling links and was not too pleased with handling. I had to replace front after 8k miles and went with Michelin Commander 130 width with Dyna Beads for balance, replaced leveling links with original links, put 40 psi front and rear (up from 30 on both). Big difference in handling. Much better. Prior to doing this I probably would not have replaced my rear with another CT. Now I probably will. YMMV

You can't just run a jack under the bike and pick it up. You need something to adapt the bike frame to the jack. CarbonOne on this site has a dandy with legs. I have one and highly recommend it. You can just use some blocks of wood in a pinch. There is an Operators Manual and a Service Manual somewhere on this site if you did not get one with your bike.

AGREED. And let's not forget Cruise Control. We are talking tourers. My FJR, a "sport tourer", doesn't have it???????????
