Thanks V7Goose for that info, your not gonna want to hear this, But I sold my beloved Guzzi Cali2 to get my Venture. Anyway back the brakes. This is going to be a silly question but if the caliper is still on the bike, apart from taking off the cover and boot from the master cylinder, is there a release valve I can loosen before I try and press the pistons back in? Cheers

Ok, yes its poor mainentance, but I've just got the old brake pads out from the rear wheel to find the left one is metal on metal, Ouch, right one is not much better. The caliper pistons are reluctant to go back and the repair kit here in the UK is crazy money. I have'nt tried really hard to get them back as I will need to clean them first. Anyone got any ideas?

Sorry Kreg its felt like two days. Its very cold and there's no heater in the garage. I guess I've spent about five hours on it so far. Thanks though for the info about the rear hub and I'm sure gonna take my time, I am alitle nervous about that part of the strip. Yep, 18,000 miles is nothing on 10 year old mount. I'm the third owner as well. Actually the very few RSV's that come up for sale here in the UK often have silly mileage for the year. Thanks everyone again.

Just before I take out the rear wheel on my 2000 RSV (18,000 miles) does anyone have any last minute tips for re-greasing etc anywhere important while the back is broken down like this, and is there any way of checking if the rear shock has gone once its off the bike. There dos not appear to be any oil leak etc. Oh and next time I need to take off the reare wheel I'm going to use Dons method of front whell off, drop the nose and then off with the rear (if it works for RSV 2nd gens). Its taken two days on and off to get the rear wheel clear. Thanks for all your tips... oh the reason for this strip is to thry and stop the bad sqweek from the rear shock everytime I take it off the centre stand.

Thanks Steve, that info is going to help our trip a lot. Every visit we've had to the good ol USA has so far been fab. Whether its New England, Grand Canyon country or San Franscisco, we've always had a great time. Apart from the scenery meeting the people is a vital part of the experience. September can't come round soon enough. Thanks to you all for those great tips.

Thanks guys for all the info. I take the point about ole' yoggy being overrated. We did Vegas, Grand Canyon, Bryce, Zion, Death Valley and Yosemite, all of which were fantastic especially Bryce. The reason for heading south out of Teton towards Utah is to get a feel for dinosaur country. The fossils found in the Uinta range are the same as we have here in SE Kent. The info on Beartooth and Cody is great and thats probably the inbound part done. Does anyone have any ideas for a day or two around the Denver area, Colorado Springs perhaps. Sure wish we could get over for the International at Cody but working for ourselves means its September or never. Thanks:thumbsup2:

Sadly we are going to be in a hire car rather than my beloved RSV, still I'm gratweful for the tip on the weather.

The Bruces are heading for Yellowstone this fall via Denver from the UK. I wondered if any of you venturers out there have any tips on route options and things to see going and coming back from Yellowstone and the Tetons. We intend to take two days going (possibly north up to the Bighorns?) and 4 days coming back (via flaming gorge, Dinosaur etc). Also are there things to see around Denver?, we may have a couple of days free at the end of the holiday. We are both geologists so after Grand Canyon, Yellowstone is a must. We’ve got accommodation in the parks but otherwise we will probably book as we go or just before. Thanks for any suggestions.

Thanks guys for the info. We have those magnet type bags here in the UK, indeed I have a small one that I could use on the tank. What I was hoping for was if anyone knew how close in shape an RSV tank was to some of the more common bikes that Baglux might supply a tank cover for. Short of finding a dealer who firstly has some tank covers in stock and, secondly, is prepared to try them on my tank, I'm a bit stuck. Baglux have been no help here so I'm hoping for inspiration on this one. Thanks everyone again.

Any of you guys out there ever fitted a tank bag to your mount? Having traded my Pan European in for my 2000 RSV I was left with a brand new Baglux bag but no way of getting a tank bag cover for it to fit on (Baglux don't make one for an RSV). I've tried to see if anything else in the Baglux range might fit ie Kawa, Suzi etc but no luck. Any ideas?

Thanks guys for all the suggestions. I'm going to try the polish route rather than a replacement screen as its very pricey here in the UK. But thanks for all the tips.

I'm sure this info is buried in the tech section, but does anyone have an answer for the night ride glare I get off my 2nd gen venture screen? Surely there must be a film of something we can stick/spray on to cut down the glare. In town its almost impossible to ride without me considering chopping down the screen, something I don't want to do as it may affect my pillions ride. Cheers

Thanks guys for the suggestions. i'll give it a go this weekend. PS we just had the Margate Meltdown here in the UK yesterday. 12,000 bikes and only one RSV (mine)! Cheers

Has anyone had any experience of moving the drivers intercom plug from the tank? Does it have enough cable to go under the tank near the seat and how do you savely get the plug seating unglued from the tank? Thanks for any help.

Guess what, we had a little rain today and the cars covered in ash again! You can actually see little stringers of volcanic glasswith the naked eye.

Just thought some of you might like to know how things are in Venture land UK. Well the weather the last few days has been fine and sunny with not a cloud in the sky, nor any planes or con trails for that matter! It’s surprising just how many we usually see here in the south-east of Kent (Gatwick and Heathrow traffic mainly). Rather odd then that you only notice they are not there when you think about it. The high altitude volcanic ash cloud that has covered almost all of our area shows itself by spectacular sunsets and all the muck on your car. If you do not wash the ash off every day it transforms into very fine clay eventually becoming like axle grease to get off! You can also sometimes taste it as acrid along with a sore throat. The RSV is tucked away safe until this thing blows over, I don’t fancy getting this stuff in my carbs. Amazing how a little old volcano can paralyse a country like this. Cheers all PS the above was a bit late getting on to this site. Since then the ash has gone, for the moment......!

Hey guys, I'm sure some of you may have seen these links on E-Bay UK but if not it might be worth checking them out. https://www.paypal.com/cgi-bin/webscr?cmd=_s-xclick&hosted_button_id=KDWCHK74QNR6L Probably more use to the European and UK members but the company were very efficient and a great price, especially against getting them made yourself. Windshield HEIGHT advice
Rockdoc replied to ablumny's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
I think the extra bit on the rim of the windshield is called a 'Laminar lip' I fitted one on my old Pan European and it made an enormous difference, even my pillion got a better ride. I ordered mine from the states and the back up was excellent. I too do not like looking through the screen and at night its positively lethal in bad weather. I have not tried a 'lip' on my RSV yet but it almost completely stopped the buffeting on my Pan so who knows it might work. Just google laminarlip.com and check them out, a Gen 2 lip will cost about $84. -
Freebird Centerstand Measurements
Rockdoc replied to Freebird's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
Thats a very kind offer Freebird on the centre stand, and one I think I'll take you up on. Perhaps it might be best if we leave shipping a stand until after Christmas. I'd hate for it to get lost over here with our current postal difficulties. In the meantime are you in a position to find out how much shipping to the UK would be and how would I pay you for it. I am assuming its easier to find out from your end, if not let me know. I can send you my e-mail address if this makes communication easier. My grateful thanks once again Alasdair- 10 replies

Freebird Centerstand Measurements
Rockdoc replied to Freebird's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
Would anyone out there be prepared to let me have the measurements for a gen 1 centre stand? I probably only need the height of the stand and the width of the bolt fittings at the top. Having asked around here in the UK for a gen 1 centre stand no one has any, so I need to see if any other Yam bikes have a similar stand to either fit or chop to fit. Thanks- 10 replies

Thanks guys for the comments. Sounds like I'm in for a bit of a search over here in the UK for a gen1 centre stand, but i'll give it a go. I might ask Yamaha UK if any othe bikes in the range used the same stand. Cheers Alasdair- 10 replies

Its amazing what you come across on this fantastic site. I have a question for Freebird - did you encounter any clearance issues with your stands? I only ask as we have a lot of bends in the UK. I'm not suggesting you dont swing your RSV's as much as we do just that we are probabaly required to more often due to our old road system. Whilst on the subject of suspension, I'm sure this question has been asked before but is there an easy way of getting out the old shock on my 2000 RSV thats a little less complicated than the 'Clymer' way? Hi The cost of getting the diamond R links sent to the UK is too high at present. Can anyone tell me if mild steel would work for these links. I have a friendly metal worker who can knock some up but needs to know which metal to use. Thanks
