Bees wax is just the begining. Has anyone tried propolis? I've got a couple of hives here in the UK. Been doing it with my Dad for many years, but last year was my first 'solo' season. Good luck and fine weather bagged us 78 lbs of honey plus a jar of prop. Its worth a go if you've never tried it. Its often a component in beeswax hence all the goodies you get when you smell and proper candle

Anyone recognise this beauty from a few years back? It was the one and only RSV I saw in two weeks and four states!
-
OK, thats useful. By the way, is your pic of one of the Grand Canyon condor's? If so, we saw two when we did the same trip in 2008

Any of you guys run the Tioga Pass into Yosemite via Mono Lake. How does it rate to the Beartooth or for that matter, some of the passes going west out of Death Valley?
-
Yep, I would endorse all the above. My recent rear end rebulid would not have gone as smoothly without many of the members help. It was like having a friendly mechanic in the garage with me. With so few RSV's in the UK, its great to be able to learn and appreciate the machine with the brotherhood that is VentureRider.Org. Here's to you all

No, but a good thought. The piece I have is much smaller than these pins. I'm sure Jayceefolley is right, and the pic does look very much like it. Just need to find out where these groove pins come from. Cheers

You're right and this site is amazing from tech tips to holiday info. Its made the ownership of this beast a great deal of fun. Thanks for the advise. On the basis of what you say I'm minded to return to the rebuild this afternoon. Still curiuos to know where you might find those groove pins though and what they are used for. Thanks
-
I agree, it a weird looking thing and I've struggled to see where such a pin would go in the final drive. It's definetely not from one of the roller bearings ? PS is the Europe Venture site up and running again? Thanks for the help
-
I've re-checked and it is picked up by a magnet. The scratches I was able to make were only on the surface and it is probably steel. I'm now desperate to know where these grooved pins sit in the final drive if indeed they do. I'm part way into the rebuild with wheel and fender back on. So I'm going to stop until I know if I have to go back in to the dif. Cheers

YES!!!!! Where are these things found and what does it mean to my rebuild? Help ....... But thanks for finding it

Cheaper to do the centre stand mod by Freebird. Weird how for $100 you're getting alot more metal than first option!
-
Oh ... What a dilemma! I'm minded to agree that it does not come from the rear hub. It was too clean to my mind. the 'silver bullet' is about 9mm long and 4mm thick. I'm going to have a good look at the tools I've used ie torque wrench (new) and my socket' set to see if its fallen out of them. But thanks to all of you. Taking the rear end apart has been a little stressful as informed help is very thin on the ground here in the UK. I think there are less than 30 ventures on the road here and even less mechanics who know their way round these machines. So god bless this site.

I cound'nt watch it all the way through. Call me a wimp, but I want to sleep tonight. I wonder how many heart attacks he caused in the oncoming traffic. I reckon a few rusky's will need to visit the underwear section after that!

Thanks Skydoc, very useful. Is there a key to go with the diagram. The thing labelled 3 looks a likely candidate if its a pin.I'd appreciate some idea as to what no 3 does. I've had another look at the metal and its very light and easily scratched Cheers

OK, I'm sure this is nothing but......I found the attached fragement of metal in an area where I have been working on my 2nd Gen rear hub. I've done the following:- Remove hub and shaft from bike. Pulled shaft out of hub and regreased both ends, replace checking spring was in place. Remove hub gear wheel from hub after removing circlip and dust cover for regreasing. Now I'm sure this fragement has come from somewhere else as it is so clean, but just thought I'd check in case anyone hase see anything like it before from the rear end of one of these bikes. Its clearly broken at one end and has a tapering V groove on one side. I hope the pics are good enough for identification. All help gratefully recieved. Cheers

Yes, you were right Sleeperhawk, the shaft had missed the UJ, I could hear it flopping about in the tube. I'm still a little worried about pulling out the shaft where it goes into tthe 'pumpkin'., in case I mess up the oil seal. Getting parts where I am is a little tricky. I'll try and use the wire through the inspection hole to line up the shaft. Thanks all again
-
Thanks guys. I'm going back in to look tommorow and will flip the inspection cap off on the swinging arm. By the sound of it I am right to assume I've missed. If so I'll try and use the methods you all suggest. As it is, i've realised I did'nt grease up the end of the shaft that goes into the final drive. I was scared of screwing up the oil seal as mentioned in previous thread on this subject, but by the sound of it I should do it if only to complete the job. Thanks again

Having searched the tech section, I just want to clarify something. Having greased the splines on the end of the drive shaft I've gone to insert it back in the drive shaft tube. After a little jiggle it went in and i was able to loosly fit the four acorn nuts prior to doing the alignment process as reccommended in the tech section. My question is (probably a dumb one) is, is it possible for the end of this shaft to miss its connnection with the UJ and simply lay in the bottom of the tube? I think its gone in but not sure. Cheers

OOps! I did half think whether it was a word that might get rejected, sorry for the blunder. However, the point I was making is that here in the UK the BBC is always going on about how its such a fine 'world' service. So when we get naff stories about some celebrety promoting yet another book while the US gets the worst storm for over 50 years, I get a little hacked off. I even phoned my sister who reads the news on the BBC and even she did'nt know why they were'nt cover it. Oh well just letting off a little steam, although am now really looking forward to getting into Wyoming this September.

I give up, the only way I knew anything about the horrendous snow storm some of you guys are going through was from the threads on this site. Is this mega storm being reported by our trusted news service, the BBC, in the UK? No. Shame on you BBC. Hope you're all doing OK during this. Those that know send our best.

Hi Dave Postcard it is. send me a PM and I'll get one off to you. The originbals would be great, I'm not fussy about the name. Thanks Alasdair
-
Thanks Dave You're right they may not look right on an early 2nd gen. I was thinking more of using them as a guide to getting some made here in the UK, although to be honest they have got to look better than the hole thats there at the moment. I just thought they were a transfer, but by the look of your excellent photos they seem to be a plastic insert. Did you have a price in mind? Cheers Alasdair
-
Just a thought, but what did you do with the inserts you took off?

Does anyone know why all UK ventures are sold without the neat hinge sticker (word venture) so well photographed on the front of the Clymer manual? I know you can order them for a silly price via Yamaha, just wondered if anyone has run there own up. Sorry if you've already read this, I think I put it in the wrong forum.
