  1. E-85 is crap. I drive a 2010 F150 crew cab flex fuel. About 8 months ago I decided to fill my tank with E-85 because it was 40 cents per gallon less at the station where i was getting gas. Well, over the course of burning that tank, my Avg Mpg read out on my dash went from 17.2 to 12.5. That sucks.
  2. I used to have one. It works well for what it is intended, but, don't you have cruise?
  3. Thanks for the report on the Natchez Trace. Last year my wife and I did a 2 weeker out east to ride the great roads in and around Tennessee, North Ga, and NC, including the Blue Ridge Parkway. After stopping in Tupelo to see Elvis' birthplace, we rode the Natchez Trace the 60 miles or so up north to Cherokee Alabama. I have to say, we weren't greatly impressed. Actually, we got a little bored because it felt like we were just riding through a chute of pine trees for 60 miles without much scenery. However, after reading your report, I now realize we need to give it another chance and ride farther north where there abviously must be beautiful scenery to experience. Or maybe south of Tupelo where there might be some cool history to read about. Yes, we are guilty of prematurely judging a road. Thanks again.
  4. Thanks for the info. I'm thinking seriously about getting one for my bike. I haven't found a good picture with it on a Tour Deluxe, do you by chance have one or two that I could check out? If not, thats okay.
  5. I guess I wasn't as specific as I needed to be. What I was asking about was your Hoppe fairing. Did it come ready to bolt right on?
  6. Thats funny! I would sure hope that if they put minds to it, they could come up with something better than that. Lol.
  7. Hey Folks, Yesterday I was in a local Yamaha dealership and the manager told me that today, June 6th, Yamaha will be revealing to their dealers what the new bike lineup will be for 2013. Since I won't be back to that dealer for a week or so, I thought i would jump on here and ask if anyone has heard any news as to whether Yamaha is going to be doing any upgrades on the 2013 Venture? Anybody have a scoop on this?
  8. Did it come ready to bolt right up, or was there a lot of tinkering you had to do to make it fit?
  9. Hey SapperJM, What brand of fairing do you have on your bike? I'm wanting to add one to mine.
  10. I did notice the clunk. The exhaust, not so much. I think Victory is sitting the catbird seat with these bikes because either people are buying them at a pretty good rate, or at the very least they are discussing them like we are doing.
  11. Sylvester, It was a tad over 90 degrees here last Friday when I rode the Victory bikes and I certainly felt a measure of heat coming off the right side of the Vision at slow speeds, and while stopped at intersections. Didn't really notice it as much on the XC Tour. I'm pretty sure that would get annoying to me since I haven't had to deal with that on my RSTD.
  12. Red Ryder, I certainly have been thinking about the option of adding a fairing to my bike. The trunk thing is a tossup because I'm wondering if we can actually pack more stuff in our large t-bag with a roll top, and the convenience of carrying the whole bag into the hotel room is nice. It could be the main thing gnawing at me is, I just want a new bike to play with. Lol.
  13. Okay, here's the deal. My RSTD has been a wonderful bike. My wife and I have loved it to death, and have rode it on several long range rides that have ranged from weekend getaways to 2 week vacations. I haven't had a hiccups trouble with it, and I intend to keep it until the wheels fall. Having said that, I have been tossing around the idea of moving up to a full dresser before a 4000 mile ride we have planned to go on in September. So, this past Saturday, Victory had their Demo Tour truck at the local dealership close by, and I accepted their offer to ride the Victory Vision and the Victory Cross Country Tour. I first rode the Cross Country and was certainly impressed, then I rode the Vision and it was an even nicer experience. Those two bikes are awesome, well thought out machines that I think would be very capable rides for the two up touring that we do so much of. HOWEVER, the whole time I was riding both machines, I kept feeling like something was missing, or off. I racked my brain so hard about it that after I got back to the dealership from the second ride, I decided to ride them again. It was in the middle of the second ride that it finally dawned on me what was gnawing at me. IT IS THE 4 CYLINDER!!! The difference between the throttle response and characteristics of the 4 cylinder in my RSTD is what i was missing while riding the V-Twin thumper type bikes the Victory's are. To me, there was a marked decrease in performance even though the Victory's are state of the art ultra modern high tech V-Twin machines. I also had this nagging feeling that I just don't want to stray away from a liquid cooled bike. Someone tell me, is this what I am going to face if I continue to flirt with the idea of buying a v-twin touring bike? I know I could just buy a new Venture and settle it, but I struggle with loving the motor the Venture has, but feeling lack luster about spending new money on a machine that is still......dated somewhat. I wish to the good Lord that Yamaha would get off their haunches and update the Venture with features like fuel injection, heated grips and seats, and for crying out loud a this millennium sound system that doesn't include a cassette tape deck. Someone talk me off of the ledge here. Lol.
  14. Hmmm, No I have not thought of or tried that. I had no idea that that would work, but you've got me interested enough to try it now.
  15. Kevin, I would in heart beat, but have decided to keep them because I have a couple cousins that ride and they have the Scala's. What that means is when we ride just single up to maybe a rally, or a one day ride without our wives, I will be able to switch to my Scala's and sync to theirs, and we will be able to communicate. Sorry about that.
  16. Man! I'm craving another ride on the BRP! My wife and I did a two week ride out there last year and fell in love with the area. As a matter of fact, we were on the Blue Ridge Parkway one year ago today. That whole area, Blue Ridge Parkway, Cherohala Skyway, Tail of the Dragon, Hwy 28, etc, feels like motorcycle central when you're out there.
  17. I just replaced my Metzler ME880 that had 15200 miles on it. Could've rode it a little longer, but I discovered a cut in the tire on a pre-ride inspection. By the way, I got that many miles out of it and I'm 6'6", and 312 lbs. I also ride 2 up with my wife 90% of the time the bike is running. I hope I get that kind of performance out of the new ME880 that I just put on it.
  18. I bought the Ultimate seat 2 years ago for my RSTD. It changed our world. My wife and I could hardly spend more than an hour or so on the stock seats before we were begging to get off. Now, we can go a whole tank without even thinking about stopping. Sometimes I fill up and never get off the bike. We rode a 2 week 4000 miler last year to the Smokeys and the seats were awesome. We rode a 2000 mile trip last month and they are still doing great. I chose the option Ultimate offers to do the logo in the colors of my bike, and my wife talked me into getting the V4 logo stitched on the sides. A little cheesy, but she's happy. If you go to the Ultimate Seats website you can look at the events they are attending this year. If you meet them at the event, they will install it and let you take a ride on it before you buy.
  19. I live in Little Rock. Call me if you need assistance. 501-766-2864.
  20. Ham radio? Wow! You're way above my head on that one. Lol.
  21. Hi Folks, I just thought I would give you guys my opinion on these two Bluetooth sets since my wife and I have had the unique opportunity to experience them back to back within a two month span. Four years ago I purchased the Scala Rider Teamset units for my wife and I to use. This product performed fairly well over the last few years and finally became so worn out that I made the choice to upgrade. About 3 months ago I chose to purchase for us the Scala Rider Q2 Proset. The sound was certainly better than the Scala Teamset that we had been using. The voice activated intercom reacts a lot smoother, and using our iPhones with them has been pretty flawless. My wife does have the complaint that when she listens to music, the sound is less than inspiring. We have on a number of occasions had to wait and fiddle for an extended period of time for the units decide to sync with each other. But, once they do, they work fine. We both agree that the buttons on the units are quirky to deal with especially with gloves on. The volume range is very limited, but adequate. Overall, we had been decently happy with them, and certainly felt that they were better than the TeamSet units we had worn out. Well....that all changed one month ago when our oldest son, who didn't know we had purchased new microphone sets for ourselves, purchased us the Sena SMH10 Dual set for a gift for our anniversary. Instead of telling him we had already purchased ourselves a new Scala set, we kept our mouths shut and accepted the gift with big grins and big hugs. I then made the choice to install the Sena units on our helmets just see if there was any difference between the two products. To put it mildly, we were blown away by the difference! The Sena SMH10 is far and away a better sounding unit, as well as way easier to operate due to the jog dial that is more friendly to navigate with gloves. The unit produces a deeper and more rich sound than the Scala product does. Also, the volume levels are markedly better. Instead of pushing buttons to raise and lower the volume, you turn the jog dial and it acts like a radio dial. My wife loves the way here iTunes music sounds on these units, even while running 75 on the freeway. There is absolutely no waiting for them to sync, and turning the units on and off is a matter of quick taps on two buttons. We did a 400 mile ride last weekend and had the units on from 7:00AM until 7:00PM, and they never went dead. Well I'm not gonna blah blah blah anymore. I just wanted to inform anyone who may be thinking about buying new Bluetooth sets, that they cannot go wrong with the Sena SMH10. Now, I've gotta figure out what to do with a 2 month old Scala Q2 set.
  22. We own a 2007 RSTD. I'm 300lbs, and my wife is 150lbs. We just got back from a 2000 mile ride to San Antonio and the bike acted perfectly with us, and all our luggage on it. We took a ride up to Branson, Mo. a few weeks ago, loaded with 4 days worth of luggage, and the thing was smooth as all get out going through the Ozark Mountains. We're probably riding 120-150lbs over the recommended when we go on a trip, but we haven't had any problems. Having said that, I know it would better to be under the limit. So.....I guess I need to get my can on the treadmill.
  23. By the way, I forgot to mention that I'm 6'6", and 300 lbs. I've tried the mustang seat, but it seems to push me too far forward. I wonder if the Ultimate will do that as well?
  24. Hey folks, I'm brand new to this site, as a matter of fact, this is my first thread. So, here's the first question I have. I am looking at purchasing a new Ultimate Seat for my 2007 RSTD, does anybody out there have this seat on their RSTD. Pros, and cons? Also, I am tossing around the idea of purchasing a center stand for my bike. Is Rivco the only manufacturer of one that fits the RSTD, or are there other less expensive alternatives? Pros, and cons please.
