Lots of cool stuff everyone has done.. So much to do.. so many ideas... I really need to look around and figure out the best bang for the buck stuff... I have yet to hear anyone really mention Dyna much, and on my other bike putting a Dyna on it was a great investment... I had been looking at evidently the clutch in these are weak so a Barnett clutch was a thought, but now I hear about this I basket... hhhhmm.. so much to do.. so little time.. and my money tree isn't growing fast enough.. maybe I should invest in some miracle grow first..

hahah.. yeah.. I'm already there.. last night I hit up against the rev limit in first... now that's gotta go already.. SO.. I think a Dyna 3000 is already in order.. the wife don't like the sound of the pieps.. SOooooo... I can't get her tu understand it will never sound like our roadie though, and I don't want it near that loud anyway.. BUT.. ya gotta let an engine breath.. so I'm sure that will lead to some new filters and jet work... Chrome don't get you home, but it sure makes you look better, so I've already got a list of stuff I want to get added or replaced that isn't only looks, but function too.... This ain't my first rodeo, so believe me.. I know what a long trip it can be.. and yeah.. strange at times too..

I'm just a mile north of Mount Vernon, off 235 north... As far as enjoying it, will all weekend.. thinking about heading out to Smoke Hole Canyon area in WV this weekend.. should be a good time..
-
Hahaha.... I doubt that.. it's probably going to be a complete redesign of my Roadie..
-
LOL.. yeah... kinda like a fresh new white canvas...

Amazing how it's so hard to decide what you like the most.. other than the bike as the whole.. Loved the Wing to Venture mod.. LOL... I made my very first change to my bike tonight.. the only new part I had laying around that would fit.. I replaced the plastic valve cover for the rear shock with a chrome spike cap... EH.. it's a start..
-
OK.. It's bare bones stock. I had just got back from the frist real ride tonight. Short, but I still gout about 40 miles on it. It's dirty in the pictures, but I also shined it up after the pictures.. The sticker on the tank is now gone. I also did my very first mod... I pit a little spiked cap on the rear shock air valve... Yeah, it's small, but it's only a day old... OH.. all I can say about the ride... WOAH!!!! Much more engine than I thought once I really got it wrapped, and curves are a lot more of a blast than they are on the Roadie..
-
hhhh...VERY interesting.. never seen anything like that..
-
LOL.. I completely understand that mod!

Fast question.. where ya'll getting the little maps you can color in on your sigs?
-
Sweet lookin bike for sure.. I sure can't wat to start getting mine customized for my taste.. I really like those ports on the bags too.. nice classic look. I had seen that grill cover earlier today while I was "shopping" and wondered what it would look like on the bike.. and now I know... NICE! You did good!

LOL.. yep.. it NEVER ends.. Thanksfully with my other bike, I've got it set up the way I want it.. however, for some reason now that I've got the Venture, I can see me tearing it apart and really dumping a fortune in it and building a custom bar hopper... eeeerrrr... I have to agree with passing lamps.. one of the first things I did on the last bike, and it did make a major differance with people pulling out in front of me, but it still never completely solved the problem... Lights and air horns are WAY up there on my list to get done.. better safe first than comfy..

What is the single most favorite modification you've made to your bike? Was it a cup holder for your water, or a Dyna 3000, new pipes, LED lighting... trailer hitch? What's the one thing you can't go without, and if you bought a new bike now it would be the first thing you do? For my last bike, for me it was The FAIC pipe I put on it. Had I of known what I know now, I would have done that first thing.. I put pullback risers on it first mod, but it wasn't the best thing I did to it. For this bike, I'm still not sure, but I'm thinking backrest will be the first thing I do, but I doubt in the long run it will be my favorite.

I have no clue... I'm not sure how far off it is now stock, so I couldn't begin to guess.. The tire height won't be very much difference, but there can be a difference between the two sizes. Here's a good site to kind of understand how the W/H sizes play out.. As you can see, we're not talking a lot.. BUT.. Looking at these numbers again.. I'm seeing there won't be a difference.. Just study the chart, and you will see you will be fine... Looks like you need to ignore my original idea that there will be a slight difference. http://www.steelthundercc.com/tiresizes.html

The sidewall won't be as tall compared to the width with the new tire.. That relates to speedo errors.

control cable lube
similost replied to venture2008's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
I disassemble the throttle housing and pull my throttle cables loose from the grip end. I've tried a few of the lubers, they are just wasted money I feel. They all turn into a mess anyway.. I take A piece of foil and double it over a couple times to make it thicker. Then I wrap it around the top of the cable housing to make like a little cup or funnel around the inner cable. I tape the bottom of the foil to the cable housing to keep it from leaking. Then I spray in a little lube to fill the cup up a bit. I move the inner cable up and down until the oil works it's way through. I do this at the beginning of the season. At the perscribed intervals for maint. I remove the cable, do the same cup thing with the foil, only I will use carb cleaner first to completely clean out the old oil and dirt, then after drying over night I will lube as normal. Reinstall the cables. -
Tank sticker?
similost replied to Principal's topic in Royal Star and Royal Star Tour Deluxe Tech Talk
A hair dryer and goo gone as someone else said works perfect. Get the sticker as warm as possible. I saw too someone asked about the emblem on the rear of the trunk quite a while back, but no one answered it.. For those, take a piece of fishing line and tie each end to a stick, then use the line like a saw under the emblem, just pulling back and forth and working your way through the two sided tape that holds them on. Then use Goo Gone to remove any left over tape. No blades ot scrapers needed for any stickers or emblems. -
I've found the opposite to be true as far as balance between the two.. Maybe it's I'm just used to the roadie though... I have found on the Venture though, that if you ride the rear brake at slow speeds, like parking speeds and pulling up to lights, it does handle much better than if you have no pressure on the rear brake.. Just seems like I'm sitting way above the balance point on the Venture. I'm sure I'll get used to that, plus I am already planning on cutting the seat down so I'm sure that will help even more. I also plan on leveling links, so hopefully that will really get it stable at slow speeds. I've tried as I might to get the wheel off the gound on the roadie.. never happened.. I seriously boubt it would ever happen on the Venture, but I had a friend that could ride a hell of an impressive wheelie on a 1800 wing.. I bout crapped the first time I saw that...
-
Never mind on the seat removal. I found a site that gave me all the info I need to pull everything and get to the speakers.
-
No wheelie, but I did spin the tire pretty good through the lot.. heheh.. it's broke in now.. ride it like ya stole it! BTW... can anyone tell me how to get the rear seat off real quick? I want to take a look at the wiring for the speaker.. I REALLY don't want to drop it at the dealer for a day or two..
-
OH.. here's a sort of picture of my Roadie..
-
Here's the first picture of it. Got it home after dark, so this is the best I can do for now. The trailer is what I'll be pulling with it. Ignore my mess, too many projects happening at the same time. You can sort of see my other bike behind this in parts at the moment.. Already got it pretty dirty since it waited to rain until I picked it up..
-
No, my other bike is a Roadstar.. Sits a lot lower, and LOTS more torque... Kinda like going from a gocart to a monster truck.. I sure do like it though!!!! Kinda bummin though.. guess I'm gonna have to get out somewhere and call that fancy road side assistance number... The left rear speaker doesn't work..
