  1. Just got home with the bike.. 08 Venture.. .WOW.. what a differnt kind of ride than what I'm used to... getting ready to head our for a little evening ride..
  2. Just so long as I can do a wheelie outta the lot.. then I'll relax
  3. Bought my bike Friday... Had to wait for the check to get from the bank to the steal.. er um dealer.. They called me this morning saying I can come pick up the bike... I got an hour till I get off work, and I pick my wife up in an hour and a half.. Just knowing my bike is sitting there waiting to be picked up.. and it's BEAUTIFUL outside.. I'm too excited to think...
  4. As far as I know, I don't think you can do pegs without being complete forwards. I'm not so familiar with the RS, but with the Roadstar, the controls are part of the boards. You can't really seperate parts you need from the parts you don't, unless you had a machine shop. I went with Legand forwards on mine.. yep.. they cost... There is no conversion for the Roadstar for just pegs. You have to do fowards, and from what I've seen and remeber, pretty much the same deal with Royal Star. (I pick mine up tonight.. YIP A DEE!!! so that's why I am not so familiar with them, but working from memory)
  5. If you are going to be in the Quantico area, you should try and see the new Marine Museum. Very nice place, and lots of great history in there. Also, there is a place that is a little hard to find, but a great place to do eat crab near Dumfries.. and also a one a little further south near Fredericksburg called Tim's River Shore.. Lots of boats pulled up outside them, lots of great seafood and blue crab, and of course adult beverages.. we always have a good time when we go. If you make it down towards Fredericksburg, there are some battle grounds to see in that area. Your wife might like checking out Occoquan too. a town made for walking and checking out all the small boutique shops in. Great shopping, and some places with wonderful food. Just trying to think of some of the places that are close to where you would be staying.
  6. OH.. forgot to mention, my wife and I moved out here from the St. Louis area almost 4 years ago.. we still travel back and forth to Illinois a couple times a year... fly some times, drive other times.. We haven't found much in between of interest... There is cool stuff, but just nothing that really stands out I can think of.
  7. I live just outside DC, and work in the District... Best advice you got so far is DO NOT try to take your trailer in the city.. It's a nightmare down town, and no one cares about anyone other than their selves. I seriously doubt you will be able to find a place to park unless you park illegally, and yep, they love to give out tickets around here. So much to see in the area... To do the Smithsonian, a week won't get it.. it's more like a month's worth if you want to see the bulk of it. I could spend a month in the National Archives alone.. what a treasure trove.. I live about a mile from Mount Vernon. Checking out George's house to me is one thing anyone that comes to DC should try to do. Beautiful grounds, and gives you a nice insight to our nation's first president. Just walking around DC is a good time, even if you aren't trying to do all of the monuments which is why to come in the first place. Lots of charm and beautiful buildings to check out. Then again, any time I go anywhere, I like to get off the beaten path, and see the stuff the locals know, and avoid the tourists. Georgetown is a great place to stroll for a day, and bring a healthy appetite.. great stores, good food, and lots of people watching.. Yeah, I think people watching in DC is my favorite thing to do... expect since I commute it daily, you have to watch people, because like I said, in general, they don't give a flying flip about you, and all the want you to do is get the hell outta their way... They are entitled don't ya know? If you do make it out here, let me know, and I can give you better pointers on what to do and see once you get a little better plan of attack.
  8. Oh yeah.. I'll be installing air horns on this bike no doubt. I've got Howard's Hog Horns on my Roadie.. No questions it's saved our skin a few times. Too many brain dead cagers out here. Not sure if I want to add horns like that again that stick out and are a bling accessory, or if I want the Steibles and kind of hide them.. All stuff to think about... I used to have a Suzuki Madura.. GV1200.. V4...Loved that bike. and yes, like the Venture, you had to keep it rapped to really enjoy the power.. It was also a shaft drive too, so that will be interesting going from a shaft V4, to a twin with belt drive, and now back to a V4 shaft.. As far as seats go.. I don't know.. We'll see how we like the stocker first.. I'v got WAY too much money tied up in seats on my roadie.. I['ve bought 3 different ones. I like the one I have on it now (Cobin) but my wife doesn't... So this time before we waste money, I'm gonna make sure she is happy.. You know what they say about if momma isn't happy... lots of truth to that..
  9. Very good information everyone. Thanks much. Gives me a few things to think about and a few options to consider....
  10. Interesting.. I looked all over thinking it was strange there was no jack.. I'll look again once I pick the bike up... So how much extra can I wire this bike for and plug in is my really big question. Will it feed two heated vests during the winter and still not drain the battery while riding?
  11. Thanks Dragon.. Amazing the space inside.. I can see easily overloading it easily.. My wife might want to pack half the house once she sees only the tent, sleeping bags, charcole and grill.. BTW.. how much can you safely consider pulling safely weight wise?
  12. Hope so.. been riding since a kid, but this will be the first trailer I've ever pulled along with the first true touring bike I've ever ridden..
  13. OH.. lots of LEDs on the sides too, but you can't see them in this so well because the covers are white.. I will have to rewire it though. Not sure what was done to it, but it's splice galore on the inside..
  14. Just thought I'd post a picture of the trailer I ran down to TX to pick up a couple weekends ago. I'll get better pictures of it once I get the bike set up and it attached. It's a home made jobbie, and appears to be a tool chest mounted to a sprung axle frame. Lots of big LED lights on the back.. That's a good thing..
  15. Just wondering... Where are you all mounting your accessory jacks, or cig lighters? I was looking at the fariing, and not really much room at all to install them through it. I have found a few bar mount models, but DAMN do they think those are made out of gold.. Also, how much spare juice does an 08 Venture have? I know on my Roadstar I don't have much electrical to spare without upgrading the stator.. Will these bikes handle some spare lighting and a heated vest and gloves and such?
  16. I'll race from BBQ joint to BBQ joint.. but I sure have had a hankering for Whataburger... Passed a few in TX a couple weeks ago, but it wasn't eatin time.. I remember those well from being a kid... OK.. back on topic.. Found the Leveling Links on Diamond R and I'm betting I pick up a pair.. but I gotta wonder... How much do they raise the back end? 3/4"? and do they really help that much?
  17. Thanks Ruffy... LOL.. seriously? Dairy Queen? Or is that on the inside? I'm more a BBQ kinda guy.. lots of porksteaks and ribs... and of course a little adult soda pop to wash it down
  18. LOL... OK.. I'll get pictures as soon as I pick it up from the dealer, but it's just a regular looking naked Venture S.... Interesting to hear a dyna will work on these. I've got the Revmaster on the roadie and really liked the difference it made. I'm sure I'll eventually be looking into one.. Yeah.. I like my bikes to be a little faster than stock..
  19. I'm not a darkside kind of person.. car tires just aren't meant to be used with that much weight on the sides of them, but to each their own.. I forgot about the extra lights on the rear. Out here in VA and the DC area, people don't seem to see other cars, much less bikes. I put quite a few extra LED lights for stopping on the back of the roadie, so I'm gonna start shopping now for more for this bike. Air horns will be a must too. I also like LED lights (black light) around the engine and ride with those on at night. Makes people take notice of you from the sides real easy, and the cops don't seem to mind them in this area. Never been stopped for it and passed many a cop at night...
  20. Thank you RedRider. Great information about the leveling links. I'll see how I like the way it handles, and go from there concerning them. I'm used to riding my roadie at really slow speeds here in traffic, so I'll have to see if this is any more of a chore to handle or not. Not vertically challanged at all. My wife tends to want to get off the bike and walk when I hit the mountians out in WV, because she doesn't like to drag her elbows on the ground in the corners. I know a backrest is a must. Got one on the other bike, and I just can't live without one. The only thing I've really noticed is it would be nice if the risers would pull back a little more, and this is just from sitting on the bike. Thanks to the search, I see Barons risers or flanders bars are the answer.
  21. Very good info.. I missed the VPTECH... I'm going now to check it out!
  22. LOL.. I understand forum addiction.. I've got two forums I already live on.. I need to get away from them more, so maybe this bike will do that for me.. I know you're a true rider.. you mention food.. a MUST!!!
  23. More cool info! Thanks much! I hadn't seen the Utopia rest yet, I'll take a look at that one. I've looked at a couple, but the ones I've seen don't match the seats, and that's something I'd really like to happen. I have seen the hitch you show, but since I've got lots of steel laying around and a welder, I'd rather make something myself. Just a nice sense of satisfaction in that. I'll probably also be making it a little different than the one you posted. I want a little more flexability with what I can do with it, like maybe allowing a little drop so I can make a rack for it when I don't want the trailer. I'll keep the AIS plug in mind since it is under warranty, but even with my RoadStar, removing the AIS didn't cause me any warranty issues, especially since I had to take it in for the tranny recall they had, and the mechanic said it was nice not having to deal with the AIS when working on it. I've kind of been gathering there was an issue with the shock. I've seen mention of it a few times, and my dealer told me about a couple they replaced. Is there an aftermarket replacement for the shock on this bike?
  24. Hi Kbay, and thanks for the welcome. Thanks again for the Metz info. I'll be far from them... I ike keeping the shiney side up.. A big part of the reason I joind here this morning is because it reminds me of the RSR forum, and an audio forum I am a member on.. Good people are the first thing I look at when deciding to join a forum. Looks like I made the perfect choice!
  25. Thanks Squidley. Some great information, especially about the tires. Ineresting to hear that for some reason Metz tires don't hold up. Not sude what tires come stock on it, but I'm imagining Bridgestone? If so, I'm not a real fan of their tires. Especially the way they tend to want to go where they want to go. Also not the fondest of Dunlop... I'll probably end up thinking about the Avon tires then. I've always liked those too. I'm used to using the search button, and have some already. Lots of great info I've found here already, and some good places to buy some of the parts I'm already thinking about. Highway pegs were already on my list too. I figured that's just a given, especially when you have long legs. We were looking at Goldwings, but I couldn't deal with the leg positon, and my knees were touching the dash. Biggest part of the reason we went with the Venture is because of the legroom.
