  1. Thanks Goose. I was hoping you would see my post. I had thought along those lines, but was hoping it may be something simple. Sadly you're probably right (as usual). It will need to be checked soon before damage is done. We all know what happens when engines run out of oil. Glad my Dad taught me to check oil & water in every engine, before every use. Thanks again. Tony
  2. Ok people had to bump this thread NEED HELP I agree entirely with the overfill problem, & my RSV has always had the "odd drip" coming out of the vent hose underneath. Lately have noticed the oil level getting lower too quickly. (never had to add oil between oil changes before) Over say a 1000 km ride the oil level will drop from half the sight glass to just showing at the bottom. It is definitely going out the vent. There is about an inch & half oil spot under it when left overnight. 1. oil is mostly checked in the same place in my shed 2. always checked with bike upright 3. nearly all my riding is relatively long distance, never commuting 4. 171,000 km on the clock Seems to me there is something more serious? Any help/sugestions as to what to do, what could be wrong, would be appreciated. Tony.
  3. Hope you fixed the problem with the previous suggestions. If you didn't, it could be caused by the rear shock if it is starting to get a bit warn out. Found this out a few months ago. Cruise would stop working for no apparent reason, lights flashing etc. Shock just felt a little different, & when that was repaired, cruise works perfectly again(better than ever) Chezley
  4. Just caught up with this Annie, good luck to you both for the trip, hope you have a great time (I envy you). They will see what us Aussies are like Nice trike & great choice of color too. Tony
  5. Twigg, this LD riding can get hold of some. Some of us here in Aus are part of a group called "FarRiders" (look us up on the interwebz if you like). "FarRiders" was founded by David (Davo) Jones. Many of you guys would know of, & some may have met Davo who competed in the 2009 Iron Butt Rally, & unfortunately, in the final stages of the rally, Davo was taken from us after a tragic accident. He was, & will remain to be, an inspiration to many of us here in Aus. A great character with a zest for life & he is missed immensely. We do IBA certifiable rides & many of us have IBA numbers. It's a matter of (safely) pushing your own boundaries, for those with the desire. Myself ? I have a couple rides awaiting confirmation/ certification from the IBA, (There's usually a wait). A SS1600k & a SS2000k. One of our guys has just (in last few weeks) achieved a 100CCC (100hrs Coast to Coast to Coast) in your USA, with a couple hrs spare! WOW! That's inspiring. Not for us all though! Not to mention the pinnacle -- Iron Butt Rally, Oh & proud to say I ride an RSV ! Long Distance?.... Yeah Tony
  6. :rotf: This I like, Very funny. You just need to be able to steer with one hand & ...... But you might not be ampidex ...err... ambidex.... umm, able to write with the other....... ahh..... . Forgot what I was ... umm ....... never mind. Tony
  7. Thanks guys. appreciate the help. Tony
  8. Very helpful. Thanks winston66 Tony
  9. Thanks Ruffy, I'll see what I can find. Tony
  10. News we got here it was special forces job Whoever, however, well done those men! Tony
  11. Quick question. Where do you guys buy basic parts such as air filters ? ('99 RSV) Just the OEM will be fine. Having a little trouble finding them here in Aust. & sounds like a fair wait for them so may as well order them from overseas myself. Tony
  12. I reckon you're right. Not even letting my wife read that ! Chezley
  13. You are right Annie - 75% of QLD. For those who may not know this is a huge area, just look at a map. Brother & family live between Toowoomba & Brisbane, just off the Warego Hwy. He is just a few k's from Grantham where several people lost their lives, & many more have no home to return to. We hear a lot of news about large centres like Brisbane & Toowoomba & of course that is where most of the damage is but spare a thought for towns such as Chinchilla, where they've been flooded out 5 times in the last 5 weeks!! But we're a resilient lot us Aussies. Most will rebuild/repair & get on with it. People there seem to be helping each other out, & from a distance, most of the rest of us can't do much except wish them well. Chezley
  14. My screen was about to let go after 500 ks in the rain. The end screws were all that were holding it, and those tabs were broken. There was a gap under the middle of 1/2 an inch. After thinking about it for days, decided to cut the bottom of the screen off 3/4 inch or so, and drill holes, therefore getting rid of those useless slots. Also added 2 more screws, 1 each side of the middle. I would even go as far as to say I'd do this to a new screen to prevent this happening. my 2 c. T
  15. GeorgeS I mean any ball race bearings & needle bearings. Seuadr, thank you kindly, that is the answer I was sort of expecting. Tony.
  16. I know that new bearings on big machinery can get a bit hot, sometimes to the point of boiling the grease, until they wear in. Just wondered about smaller ones, like say car or m/c wheel bearings? My guess is they do to some extent & I bet some of you guys will know for sure. Tony.
  17. Glad to have you back here Annie. Couldn't get to Albany. Thought it may be possible a couple months ago, but it wasn't to be. Some friends went & had a blast. 3500 people there, that about right? Hope you're well soon, not the whole 100 days. cheers Tony.
  18. Thanks guys for all the replies The gear oil in there was changed 13k, ks ago. The container is in the shed somewhere, & should be the right stuff (from yamaha shop). I will change it again now. Thanks again for the advice, I am a lot more confident that It's ok after the comments. cheers T
  19. Just wondered if anyone has found their final drive getting hot? Put my hand on the diff housing, (where the oil is), after 100 ks today & could only just keep it on there. Didn't hold thermometer to it but it was hot enough to concern me. Never felt it before so don't know if this is normal? Wheel rim is warm. Oil level is good. Brake disc is cool. Thanks guys Tony.
  20. Annie , YOU will know when you can get back on the bike, look forward to having you back on the forum also:clap2: Get well soon Tony
  21. Sorry to hear that Hope all goes well & you heal fast Tony
  22. Hi Chuck Very generous of you giving that mc away. And just by reading here a while, I see how helpful squid is to lots of us. Sorry can't help with parts (even harder to get here in aus) but may be able to throw in a few $ to help with new ones? Let us know if you need to go that way. cheers Tony
  23. You can send some of that rain our way if you like. In our part of ozz its been tough Worst drought since records began, Hottest November ever, with temps in 40's for over a week at a time & up to 45C. Just a couple hundred K's west of here experienced 49 for days, which is not uncommon in summer, but unheard of in the end of Spring. El Nino ? Maybe Lets hope things turn around for better soon. Tony.
  24. Can't speak about a rear, but I have had no trouble with front. last one had 33,000 ks, & it still had more than 1 mm tread left (yeah worn out I know). :scared:Probably 3,000 or 4,000 less would have been safer. Handling far better on new one. I bought 2 more fronts at the same time, from 2 different dealers. Here's the thing, the 1 I had fitted & currently run is made in Germany, the other in Korea. Now I'm not saying there will be any difference, fact is I don't know. But will be interesting to compare- life of tyre, feel etc. Have it stored in house so should be ok. If had known, would only have bought german one (just my choice) My cheers Tony
  25. I'm not for chasing $ over trivial matters, But thats not trivial Make them (her pay). Probably worst is you still need proceedure done. Good luck with it all.
