  1. Here's a link to some equivalent oil filters. Word of caution, there may or may not be changes in the manufacture of certain filters, such as the Purolator, this is an older list... http://www.venturerider.org/forum/showthread.php?1849-Oil-Filter-Cross-Reference There are several others not listed on this list that I have in my notes, but that info may have come from Venturers, or another older thread...
  2. Well, a couple of lbs of pressure minimizes foaming of shock oil...
  3. Not really, they are just pricey when there are many many car filters that fit perfectly and work just as god, if not better than the Yamaha filter that costs 2 or 3 times as much... I usually buy Bosch that are longer than the Yammy filters for around four bucks or less. What do you pay for your filters??
  4. Yup!! Kinda like a Chinese puzzle!! Ya twist it and turn it and shake it, swear at it, etc, and just when you're ready to give up, it falls out...
  5. You caught that too, eh Reiny?
  6. I hate intermittent problems!! It could have been one of a multitude of causes!! I kind of doubt that the altitude would cause any problems, these bikes run great in higher elevations. Besides, you would just loose power but it wouldn't cause it to just stop dead in it's tracks. Your kickstand switch is hermetically sealed, I do not believe you can disassemble and clean them. What you CAN do in an emergency is jumper all 3 wires together, BUT then it is possible to start IN gear with the clutch engaged, and it will allow it to drive with the kickstand down...
  7. OK before you get too involved with this project, do a little research on this site about the frames rusting from the inside out and cracking at the rear shock area. This is a known issue specific to the '83 Venture and was corrected with the '84 on up. I'd hate to see you spend a lot of effort accomplishing what you want only to find the frame needs welding and reinforcing in that area. When the frame cracks in that area the rear of the bike goes down pretty much instantaneously and has an extremely high pucker factor at the bare minimum...
  8. Well, if you bought a MC jack THEN you would also need a lift adapter, so six in one, half dozen in the other...
  9. Waiting with furrowed brow and bated breath!
  10. Uhhh, for the stock MK2 calipers, you need 2 kits per caliper and the rubber o ring between the halves, so double the cost...
  11. I got it!! VENTURE! Or, Da Bike...
  12. That'll do it every time!! Don't ask how all of us know about this issue...
  13. I'd say take it back to dealer and let him fix it under warranty...
  14. He has a '13 Jeff, so it should not be in dire need of a coolant flush yet, but your suggestion on removing the radiator cap and looking was going to be my next suggestion. I'm just first flushing mine and it's an '09. Also yes, my next suggestion of possibilities would be defective thermostat, or possibly bad radiator cap... Part of me does not think the oil discharge and the overheating are directly related, but then again I HAVE been known to be wrong once or twice...

    Battery

If you can, sloooow charge it overnight at 2 - 5 amps or so. AGM's charge better at a slow rate, but they do not like float chargers either...
  16. OK Two separate things. First, with the possible overheating. The very first thing I would look at is the level of your surge tank, which is sort of under your seat. You need to remove the false battery cover on the right side to really see the level, but you can pop the rubber top off by pulling the seat and at least see if there is anything at all in it. On the side of the plastic tank is a minimum and a maximum line. There are rubber plugs on the engine under the fake cylinder fin covers that are known to develop a sloooow leak and sometimes you will not see any antifreeze leaking because it is so slight. If they are leaking it should be covered by your 5 year unlimited mileage warranty. Next the oil seepage. The usual cause of this is overfilling the oil when doing an oil change. With the bike as level as possible (try putting a 2 x 4 under your kickstand) the oil level should NOT be above halfway up the site glass, with the bike turned off and setting for at least an hour or so to let all the oil drain into the crankcase, ideally even longer, like overnight. If you fill to over halfway, say like 3/4 or so, the excess oil will be expelled from the engine and a lot of times it goes through those vent tubes...
  17. Hoo BOY!! Wait until you find out how much the rebuild kits cost for the MK2 as opposed to the kits for the R1/R6...
  18. Use your smart phone for chat then you can use voice recognition software kiwi...

    Battery

Just a voltage check does not necessarily mean the battery is good. What you need to do is remove the battery, put it on a charger to insure a full charge, then take the battery to Auto Zone, etc and have then load test the battery!! It may read 12.4 volts with no load but if a cell or cells are weak it will dip much lower under load! I mentioned Auto Zone because I know they do it for free... 4 brush starters and thicker battery cables help the HOT starting issue but do not make a huge difference cold starting. Notice I stated HUGE, they do make some difference cold.
