1. Rick, in reading the post above it sounds like you only do 2nd Gens but the pictures in your link looks like a 1st Gen seat. If you have a different price for 1st Gens (if you actually do them) what would the charge be? Thanks and happy motoring. Marvin:Venture:
2. I am saddened to do what I am about to do but I will be putting my bke and trailer up for sale as soon as I can get a good write up on it. I will post it in the classifieds for anyone here that loves 1st Gens. I am heartbroken to do this but really don't have much as far as a choice. I will also be selling the floorboards.....minus the 2 spacers as well. Thanks everyone here for all the help I have received...Marvin:crying:
3. I'm wondering if the differences in thickness' is because the set that is on EBay is for a 1st Gen MKI and the ones we have are for a first Gen MKII? As soon as I get a chance later this week I am pulling my pegs off and will use the 2 that I have and see if I can't get a caliper measurement of the space that is left. We do know the thickness of one more ater the 2 that I have thanks to you, Mr Saltydog, so all we need is one more. We'll get this project whipped by hook or by crook by golly. I hope everyone has a safe and Happy Labor Day
4. Your garage sounds like mine! I know things are in there but darned if I can find them....It's not a big deal. We will get it figured out eventually. As I said in my last post, I am leaving tomorrow going out of town this week end and I didn't want to take the pegs off and have to hurry and put them back on so if I don't hear from this person that has the boards for sale on Ebay, I will get that last measurement when I get back, sometime next week for sure. Thanks for all the help everyone has given so far. This just proves what an awesome group we have here on this site.
5. Good afternoon Skydoc. I found a set of floorboards on Ebay for a 1st Gen MKI and I'm not sure if they are the same but I did send the seller an email asking if he would please measure the spacers and send me those measurements. I'm hoping that he will get back with me so I can compare to the 3 measurements we already have and get the 4th spacer thickness so you can get these made. I am leaving tomorrow for Indianapolis for the weekend so I won't be back onliine until late Monday. If I get the sizes before I leave I will get back to you and let you know what I find out. If he doesn't respond by the time I get back I will pull my foot pegs off and "hang" the boards I have on and try to get as close a measurement as I can. Here is the link to the boards I found in case anyone here is looking for a set WITH all needed hardware to complete the install effortlessly. Copy and paste the address into the address bar to check them out. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=160359348165&ssPageNam e=ADME:X:AAQ:MOTORS:1123 Thank you for picking up the stainless bar stock and being prepared for making these spacers for me. Marvin
6. Condor you are a life saver. I knew all I had to do was ask a question on here and there would be a member that would come up with the answer. Take your time on geting that info. Don't want anyone having a heat stroke over some piddly little spacers. Heck I've gone this long without the floorboards, a while longer ain't gonna make nor break me. Again thanks to all who have chimed in on this little perdicament of mine. This is such an awesome group!! Marvin:dancefool:
7. I remic'd the 2 spacers I have and I found out I had made a mistake on one of them. Saltydogs measurements are coorect. I had put that the smaller one was 17.75 MM but after reading his post I remic'd mine and the 17.8 MM is correct. Thank you Saltydog for catching my mistake and adding the additional spacer measurement. 3 down 1 to go!! If we can just get that last thickness we will be able to put Earl to work making us the spacers we need. Thank everyone for their help on this mission we have set out on.
8. Tim, I would be interested ina set of these amber lights as well...like others...depending on the cost.
9. Good morning Earl, I got a reply from JB, the member that sent me the pictures to help me install my floorboards, and he told me that he only used his floorboards one ride and took them off and sold them, didn't care for them, so he is unable to help us out. He also suggested that should we get the proper thickness' needed, that the spacers should only be made out of steel or stainless steel as brass will distort due to the weight being placed on the boards. I'm not a metals expert so I haven't a clue as to what should be used so I am guessing that I should retract my "order" for polished brass and replace them with what JB suggested...Heck I don't know. He did also confirm that there are 4 different thickness' of spacers so I guess we wait until somone can give us the needed measurements or until I can get enough free time to take my pegs off again and reinstall the boards and try to measure and see if I can get a guesstimate as to what thickness' I am missing. Thank you for your help so far, Marvin
10. Thanks Earl, I can see how you would misunderstand. Heck I know what I'm talking about and I don't even understand...Let me send a PM to the member that I used his picture to post on the first message of this thread and see if he might be able to get the sizes for us. I see that you already have another cutomer as soon as we get the correct thickness'. I'll get back with you as soon as I can get you those measurements. And as soon as we have the correct sizes I will take you up on all 4 polished brass,,,,I've always wanted to be the first at something and this is my chance!!!!! Marvin
11. Hey Earl, Thanks for the speedy response. Do you know the thickness' of the 2 spacers I am missing? I haven't a clue what they would be. As I said in the original post I know how thick the 2 are that I have but I can definately see that there are 4 different thickness'. I would suspect that the polished brass would be the better choice of the 2 metals you offered, course you would be a better judge of that than I would be. If you know how thick to make them then I will definately take you up on this offer. Just send me what your preferred method of payment would be and I will shoot the funds out to you. Thanks again, Marvin
12. I purchased a set of floorboards for my 88VR from a member here quite some time ago and just never had the spare time to put them on. I am taking a road trip next week and decided today to make the time to get them on so I could find out if they were more comfortable than the pegs (been reading the pros and cons in other threads). Well I removed the pegs and started putting the floorboards on and came to realize I am missing 2 of the chrome spacers that go between the frame and the floorboards. I got 2 of them, don't know if I didn't get them and lost them or just didn't get them, makes no difference, I don't have them now and I need all 4 to install the boards. I mic'd the ones I do have and 1 is 22.30 MM and 1 is 17.75 MM thick. I'm not sure what all of the thiickness needed are but if anyone has these 2 spacers I am missing and would be willing to part with them please give me a shout. The spacers are 25.30 MM across and have a 10.5 MM hole in the center of them.. I am attaching a photo of a set of boards I got from yet another member that was helping me to understand how to install these. You'll note in this picture there are a total of 4 spacers. I didn't get any of the bolts with the boards either but those aren't a problem as I can get those locally at Lowes or Home Depot. Thanks in advance for everyones helpas always...This is a great site.
13. I would be in for one of each when you get a price please let me know.
14. Just checked and the auction ended and it didn't sell...Final bid was $4999.99. He really likes that bike and must not consider what it would take to get it road ready. It is a very clean bike but I would be scared of all the potential "problems" with it.
15. While cruising the item on EBay for sale I came across this add: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Yamaha-Venture-Yamaha-1989-Venture-Royale-1300-Blue-Like-New-200-miles_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQ_trksidZp3286Q2ec0Q2em14QQhashZitem588296a25dQQitemZ380148032093QQptZUSQ5fmotorcycles Does anyone believe this is really possible? A 1989 VR with ONLY 210 miles on it? It does look very clean. 3K current bid but it also has a reserve on it.
16. I can't tell you how much I appreciate the responses. This site is a God's send for shade tree mechanics like myself. I am ordering the parts today to do this fix and I am sure it will go smoothly with all the help y'all gave me today. huge thanks to all of you and happy riding.
17. I don't know what the deal was as to how he "knew" they were bad but the guy behind the counter said the tech told him "he couldn't get it locked in" what ever that means!!!! I don't do wheel balances so I have no idea what all is involved in the process. At first I took it as a way to gouge me for more money...I got a very strange look when I was asked who mounted the tire and I told him I did...HF tire mounting machine...I like new tools...can ya tell? PLUS when I took it to this same stealer last year to install a new rear tire he quoted me one price for the new tire installed so I left it and he called me 2 hours later and said it would be an extra $25.00 since I had a trailer hitch on the bike. THEN to add insult to injury when I went to pick the bike up they had broken a piece out of the footrest for the passenger on the right side saying it was because of the difficulty caused by the trailer hitch. To say I was not happy is an understatement! BTW all of this happened before I was introduced to this site...now I do all my own manitenance...with y'alls help and not only save me a bunch of money but a ton of frustration. This is the list of parts I am thinking I need to order 93306-30317-00 Bearings 2 each 90560-17233-00 Spacer 1 each 93105-45017-00 Oil Seal SD Type 1 each 341-25846-00-00 Retainer clutch 1 each 93105-45017-00 Oil Seal SDD Type 1 each 90387-17342-00 Collar 1 each Again..thanks everyone for all your posts and help. Marvin
18. I installed a new set of Avon Venoms on my '88 VR and went for a short ride. I feel a vibration over 65 MPH so I came back home and took the front tire and rim to the local stealer to get it balanced. He informed me that the tech said he couldn't balance it because the wheel bearings were worn out and that they needed replacing. At first I figured it was just a ploy to get more money out of me but then I considered that the bike is 21 years old and not being the original owner I don't know just how old the bearings really are. SO I told him I would order the parts since I get all my parts through Flatout and have so far saved a ton of money over the prices that my local stealer has quoted me. My question is just how dificult is it to replace these bearings and what all parts do I need to order from Flatout to make this repair. Also do I need any special tools to make this repair? Any excuse I can find to get new tools works for me! As always thanks for all the assitance. MC
19. I purchased a set of floorboards with the heel toe shifter and brake pedal for my 88 VR and they arrived today. Now I am in a quandry as to how to install them. I am sure that all of the parts are here but I don't have a clue as to where to start. Does anyone have these floorboards installed on their bike and would be willing to sned me pictures of the finished install so I can get them on? Any help I could get would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance. Marvin BTW these came off of an 89 VR and I purchased them from a member here on this site.....got a sweet deal
20. What I used to consider a really good friend of mine used to have a 1994 Ultra and we would go riding and camping and hang out together all the time (he was the one that turned me on to my Venture Royale). Well 2 years ago he bought a brand new Ultra and since that day he no longer calls, we never go riding, we never go camping, nothing. I've called and emailed him many times and he always has some kind of excuse not to be available. Maybe it's just me he doesn't like....Now he does go to Daytona with his Harley friends every year...no I'm not invited and even used my enclosed trailer just after he bought his new Harley to haul it there...and he hangs out with all of them. He and his buddy that has an Ultra 1 year older than his call anything other than a Harley a "Disposable". I am also an avid drag racing fan and have a NHRA trailer hitch plug on my car. He and a couple of his Harley buds were at my work site one day and saw it. He poked one of his buds and said "I wonder if that stands for Non Harley Riders of America" and they all had one great big laugh. Personally I wouldn't trade my Yamaha for 10 Harleys.... well on second thought I would...then I could go buy 15 Royal Star Ventures and have one painted each a different color. Gues I just don't feel I have to own a Harley to make people like me and be my friend. Just my opinion.
21. I have a 1988 VR with 64k miles on it. I have looked through as many threads as I can find on this problem and can't find a solution to my issue. I was out riding yesterday and my oil level warning light came on and the red LED started flashing. I pulled over on the shoulder as quickly as possible and had a buddy hold the bike upright so I could check the oil level for fear I had created another oil leak (previous leak fixed) and lost my oil. The oil was at very near the 3/4 full level so I wasn't low on oil. We sat there for a few minutes letting things cool down and my nerves to settle down not wanting anything serious to happen to my ride. After about 5 minutes I cranked it back up and the light stayed on so I let it run and rocked it from side to side and still the light stayed on. We started riding again but instead of it being pleasurable for me anymore I was concerned with a problem in the engine now. So I decided to turn around and head back home. About 5 miles from the house the light went out. It stayed off until I pulled into my drive way and the DA** thing came back on again. Now I have read the others have had this problem but it was when the were cranking on the throttle while going through the gears. I could understand this if that was the case with me but I was just riding along minding my own business. Has anyone else had this problem and if so how did you fix it? Red lights give me the willies and FLASHING red lights is hard on the old ticker. All help will be greatly appreciated as always.
22. I can't begin to say how stupid I feel right now, The dimples are all lined up in a row just as it outlines in the procedure that HDHTR posted...That was what I checked when I tore it apart the second time. The third time I tore it apart I turned the clutch plate and put it on 6 different times and one of them wobbled so I figured this is definately not right, so I put it back together one more time and it still didn't work so I came in and posted my problem. Squeeze---you nailed it. I wnet out and took the blots out and turned it one hole at a time and when I got to the place that it wobbled I got more agressive and pushed in and walla...it slid in. And I thought I was somewhat mechanically inclined. Glad no one can see just how red my face is. BUt I hope my stupidity can help someone later on if they run into this same problem. Thanks again guys...you are the greatest!!! danob11----How the heck did you know I wore a thong??? LOL
23. Good afternoon. I am in a frenzy. This question is about my 88 VR. I just did the Barnett upgrade of my clutch and it went so smoothly I was figuring I did something wrong. Well apparently something is wrong cause now I can't pull the clutch lever. I followed the steps from HDHTR in the tech guide to the letter and even took the old plates apart one by one and laid them off to the side in the order I took them out. After removing the boss wire and taking out the last friction plate and steel plate I inspected the basket for burrs and it was in good shape so I began reassembly. Put in the first friction plate, the 16321, and then the first steel plate and then installed the boss wire, and proceeded to install the plate in alternating order, friction, steel, friction, until I was out of new friction plates and all the steel plates had been used up too coating each plate in oil as I went. After installing the Barnett conversion and torqueing the bolts to 8 ft lbs I tried to pull in the clutch lever and I can not pull it in. There is space between the Barnett and the last friction plate I installed and I can move the plates in and out by hand. When I torqued the bolts I had to hold the Barnett to keep it from spinning. It acts as if teh clutch is disengaged but the lever isn't pull in. So I put it all back together and jacked it up with my HF jack and started the motor and put it into gear and there was nothing, like I said as if the clutch lever was pulled in. The reason I did this conversion is that when I went for a ride weekend before last the clutch started slipping in the upper gears so I wanted to get it replaced before it got too bad. I also might add that I replaced all of the bleeder valves with speed bleeders and purged all of the lines. I thought maybe the clutch has an air blockage causing the slave cylinder to be activeated so I took the speed bleeder completely out hoping it would relieve the pressure but that didn't work either. So now I am looking for any and all help I can get. Do I need to replace the clutch slave cylinder now and if so I haven't been able to find the procedure for doing that in my seaches. Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated as I really don't want to have to take it to the stealer to find the problem.
24. Got the parts ordered online. Good deal and should be here by the week end so I can get them on and do some riding. As always you all are the greatest. Have saved me a bunch of money by not having to go to the stealer to get work done that I can do myself, with a little coaching from the sidelines of the members here.
