You guys are Crazy! & lots of FUN. I was laughing so much watching those videos my wife asked what I was watching. So I had to explain the story & all about the Superman suit, etc, etc & she came over to watch too. you Guys epitomize that saying "We may all grow older but we don't have to grow up!" Good on ya! Have a great time in Sturgis, Guys & Ride safe Man of Steel!

When I first saw this I thought FFS! This cannot be real Thankfully, watch to the end.... https://www.youtube.com/embed/LSZPNwZex9s

Something that sadly comes to most of us I guess. We are limited on the trips we can do, I have back & neck problems my wife has back problems since being rear ended four years ago. Just really pi$$es me off that someone else's carelessness has effectively ruined a large part of our retirement enjoyment. Wishing you luck on four wheels & hope you sell your trike easily.

Has anyone done a You Tube of this on OUR bikes? There are a few video's online but none I can see of our bikes. Just wondered if someone could highlight which screws to adjust & more importantly which ones to leave alone. The manual I have doesn't make it too clear. Just thought it may help someone down the road (maybe even me) if someone who'd actually done the synch did a short video or small write up? OK sorry just found this, done by our esteemed Boss may be of help... http://www.venturerider.org/forum/showthread.php?258-Syncronizing-the-Carbs what chance have we got when the Manual gets it wrong?

Wow! Housing & Trucks must be cheap in your neck of the woods! Around here the price of a new 2018 would maybe get you a garden shed (a big one) but still a shed!

Don't know if this is relevant or not but maybe so here goes. A while back I had the Jeep (Liberty) in for service. They decided to clean the slightly corroded battery terminals. When talking to the service manager & basically querying the cost, "Just to clean the battery terminals" (my words) He said something along the lines of Ah! but it's not that simple anymore, we have to connect a "false supply" to ensure the vehicle systems never see "no voltage". Otherwise you can lose engine management settings, cause "computer" errors & cause all sorts of problems. At the time I thought "Yea, so much BS" but maybe not. With modern electronics flash memory etc I wouldn't be surprised if disconnecting the battery could cause "other problems"

I truly think that many younger people today as has been said would find it very difficult to function without electronics (phone, iPad etc) Hell how many of them can do a simple sum without pulling out the phone. Yes these things can be extremely useful but what happens when you don't have them or they fail? They are useful tools but it appears to me that too many have become slaves to them, constantly checking them for "something" what on earth can be so all fire important? There's quite a ;large fine here but still I see daily lots of people surreptitiously checking their phones while driving. Why? I just don't get it! The lady you referred to refused to state "male" or "female" on the child's birth cert. indicating that it would be up to the child to choose & not be labelled at birth as one or the other. Sheesh! FFS! But it appears she may be giving the child even more "problems" down the road, as certain Gov't institutions also require to know whether you are male or female. Passports, Driving Licence, Gun Licence & most if not all "benefit" agencies. For sure the loony left are taking over. I read somewhere recently how a friend said to another "You used to be Liberal (Democrat), now you're Conservative (Republican), why?" The reply was "I got a dose of life!"

Here we've had almost 5 weeks without any rain so trees are suffering, Cottonwoods are a PITA they just suddenly let loose with big branches.

On my RSTD same key does ignition, bags & fuel cap. On mine the key only turns about 1/8th of a turn clockwise & then the cap springs loose. One solid locator lug at 12 o'clock & two spring loaded latches at 9 o'clock & 3 o'clock.

Pleased you were able to avoid him Puc! What's wrong with these clowns? Too many frickin idiots out there! I hope one day they all get what's coming to them courtesy of a baseball bat! (Did I say that out loud?) Was meeting with friends tonight to go for a ride, & have a picnic by a local lake, but one of them had to cry off. He was unfortunately taken out earlier today by one of these maniacs, driving like a dipstick, forcing his way in & then taking off once he'd caused mayhem. Thankfully our friend is OK, he's obviously very upset & his pride is dented, but his beautiful Limited Millennium Edition Venture that he's only had for a month or two was quite badly damaged. So instead of going to the lake (there'd only be mosquitoes there anyway!) we rode to his house to offer a little moral support to him & his wife & we had our picnic on his deck. Where are the boys in blue when you really need them huh?

I'm considering a good 1st Gen. I'm thinking around '86-'89. I've seen a few advertised locally but not actually been to view any as yet. Apart from checking for leaks, lights, brakes, tires, weird noises etc What things should I be looking at or checking for? Simple checks that can be done without a garage or workshop. Are there any specific failings that can cost lots down the road? I am reasonably mechanically minded but wouldn't want to start doing rebuilds etc. Thank You.

Always good to "get ya goin" Puc... Your stories are always so good! See, I now know stuff about Kings Canyon & Blue Ridge Parkway that I didn't know before. Not that I'll ever get there. You're an inspiration to us all, keep on truckin' (or ridin' anyway) & stay safe. btw I got my fair share of whoopins when I was younger too (& everyone of 'em was deserved) but I never believed my Dad at the time when he said to me "this is going to hurt me more than you" (I understand it now being much :backinmyday:older & hopefully wiser)

Whoops! Almost got ya! Pleased he didn't, but I thought you weren't supposed to coast with the motor off you are a scallywag Puc

Oh alright then!.... if you really must (actually those parts are true)

Nearly choked on my morning cuppa! Promise me you won't go leaping off any tall buildings though. It's a bit like Santa Claus.... it's only a pretend & not real!

Who really cares what he thinks, opinions are like noses.... everybody's got one (that's the clean version) Mine sure is anemic enough for me!

Need a little guidance
Kretz replied to Statussymbol's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
Same. Never use the choke unless it's quite cold (never checked the temp but would go along with 50 deg F (10 degC)... maybe even less, posted above) & never after a run even if the bike has stood for a few hours plus. When I first got the bike it took a little experimentation but using the choke in warm weather or after a run always resulted in numerous false starts, no starts &/ or poor idling if it did start. I now start without choke (in warm weather) a minute or two to warm up & then ride as normal. -
Don't know if this'll work. Well it worked here so just copy & paste it to your Avatar now. Looks like "The boss" Beat me!

2018 Star Venture Owners Manual
Kretz replied to Du-Rron's topic in Star Venture and Eluder Tech Talk ( '18 - Present)
So with a combined weight of 425lb for me & my wife, without any luggage whatsoever the bike is already 6lb over limit! & Many bikes do not have a load limit that high. -
2018 Star Venture Owners Manual
Kretz replied to Du-Rron's topic in Star Venture and Eluder Tech Talk ( '18 - Present)
I think most bikes on the road riding two up are way overloaded (according to manufacturers figures). The Goldwing has a max load rating of 417lb. (couldn't find a figure for the Venture) Many guys are in the 200- 250lb range (or more) their ladies are probably 150lb or more. Already the bike can easily have 400lb load before any luggage! Take the weights of some of the larger riders out there & those figures can easily be surpassed. -
I'd heard of problems from more than one source, that's why I have a passport. Plus I may want/ need to go places other than the USA & an enhanced licence doesn't work for them.

Thought I'd just update you guys, appears it's probably nothing to do with the "type" of fuel & changing it did as someone said dislodge some crap & & was merely a coincidence that it ran afterwards. I went out to use the lawnmower today, it has regular 87 oct in from last fill, same thing... starts after being primed, runs for maybe 5-10 seconds then cuts out. I did eventually get it to run, & was able to cut the grass. Anyway trying again later I got the same results (won't run reliably) So I got some Seafoam & I'm trying that, so far no change so I'm just letting it sit for a few days now after adding Seafoam to the gas (starting it a number of times) & also squirting it into the air intake & running it. If that doesn't work I may try a carb service kit but at 15+years old I don't think it owes me anything. Maybe a new lawnmower is in the stars, but I would like to know what the problem is. Maybe like me, it's just old age! lol

Things are getting so changeable now with border regulations fwiw I'd get a Passport. Here (in BC) we have "enhanced" drivers licences that are supposed to allow crossings, but I don't have one. I use a passport to cross into the USA. Maybe a US citizen with a licence like yours will comment more knowledgeably.

Now you're really spoiling us (well me for sure) BSA Bantam, holy crap! I really wanted one of those when I was younger, I just couldn't have any of the bigger ones (Gold Star, Rocket etc) due to cost. My Dad used to ride an old James single 125cc m/c that he rebuilt, (Francis Barnetts had similar models) one of his jobs in the early days working for a tire retailer in the 50's was re-spoking both car & bike wheels, he was good at it too. He used to "tune" the spokes by sound, plucking them like a harp string, till the whole wheel ran true. Wow! there really have been some memories in this thread of yours... Thank You! I hope your restoration projects give you a lot of pleasure both during the rebuilds & after completion.

Beautiful, takes me back to my teenage years when these bikes were becoming available in the UK. Benly, Dream, Super Dream wonderful. I remember the "cool" guys at school having them. Would love to restore something like that... Thanks for the trip! Where do you find parts for such old bikes to keep them "right?"
