  1. If you're wondering what wire size to use, there are a number of tables out there, just google "12 volt wire gauge chart" or something similar. here's one: http://www.engineeringtoolbox.com/amps-wire-gauge-d_730.html Always protect the wire/ end user with a correctly sized fuse.
  2. No offence taken Snyper, & I do take the point you were making, just fyi I often see people driving with earbuds in also we here in BC are required to undergo medical evaluation at age 80 to ensure we are capable of driving & every two years thereafter, though some seniors advocate groups are lobbying that this is against our Charter Rights. It's also reported that the "tests" may cost anywhere from $75 to $400 depending on exactly what is required! Extract from BC Gov't website re "seniors" Health problems tend to manifest themselves, or become more prevalent as drivers age which is why, beginning at age 80 and every two years thereafter, drivers must be assessed by their doctor and submit a medical report to RoadSafetyBC. Further, cognitive impairment with respect to driving represents a growing public safety issue as BC’s population ages.represents a growing public safety issue as BC’s population ages. As a result it is imperative that drivers who show signs of cognitive decline are assessed to ensure that they are fit to drive.
  3. Taking tests once a year & vision every six months. Say Whaaaaat? & hearing tests??? What about younger people who drive with earbuds in their ears so can hear nothing that's going on around them? There are many, many younger people out there who are waaaaay worse drivers than older people. I had my eyes tested just a few weeks ago, my eyesight is better than many 20 odd year olds! (my optician told me) Younger drivers have far too many distractions, it's those that need to be stopped. Earbuds, cellphones, texting, I've even seen some clown playing games while driving! Why the hell should I as an older driver, on a fixed income be subject to annual tests (& more importantly, their associated prohibitive costs) just because I'm getting older. Smacks a bit of ageism.... I've had close calls with inattentive young & mid aged females & males, not so much wit older folks though. Have to say there are lousy & inconsiderate drivers of ALL ages. Sorry Snyper we often agree but I can't agree with you on this one.
  4. My bro was one for "talking" & "discussing"... My nephew went off the rails mid teens, I tore into him, told him what a loser he was , how stupid & disgraceful his actions had been. I really let him know, Gave him some hard facts & pointed out the choices he had, dealt with him the way my I felt MY Dad would have spoken to or dealt with me under similar circumstances. Years later he thanked me & said his Dad (my bro) always wanted to have a "family discussion" & reason everything out. He told me much later on in his life that looking back he really appreciated having a strip torn off of him. (didn't at the time) That it was really the first time anyone had really torn into him (verbally) & pointed out some hard facts, but it made him think about what he was doing & how easily he could become a real loser. He's now a great young man with a successful career etc.
  5. Can relate to every one of those! lol Thing is now, if a parent said (or did) some of those things they'd have people reporting them to the police & child welfare. It's just gotten so ridiculous. Did anyone hear that crazy case in N. Carolina where a five year old while playing a game, was suspended from school for picking a stick up & pretending it was a gun!? She should have done like we did & used her pointer & middle finger! You forgot compassion for others... 11."You'll put someone's eye out with that!" & Anticipation: 12. Just wait till your Dad gets home!
  6. Thanks for the link, I had missed that, Just in case, there's a storage lot here in Mission just in the industrial area, almost next to the rail crossing on London Ave. Boats, trailers, other stuff in there. No idea what the costs are, but maybe you have it all sorted now. Isn't that always the case if you'd wanted to pop that PS hose, it would be impossible to do, but a bit of wood just knocks it off. Anyways glad you got it all sorted out. Have fun!
  7. Had to smile at that, I'm from England too but sometimes get asked if I'm Australian. I don't think I sound anything like an Aussie. Lot of folks think people from South Africa are Aussie too. Funny thing accents, in the UK you can drive 40 miles & people have a different one. SilvrT that field sure does look messy.
  8. He'll be looking to park that big new camper on your front lawn! :canada:lol
  9. LMAO... Wonderful story Sailor! Ya! that deer might have gotten a bit smelly! lol We are currently looking at real estate listings in the hopes of moving to SSI but wow! some of the prices! Where we live now in Mission, we do get Humming birds, (saw one in Feb. poor little guy) very occasional deer, black bears (often), coyotes (often) & frogs (every year), love to fall asleep with the window open & the ribbit ribbit in the background. Love 'em all. One year we watched a black bear eat a LOT of our windfall apples, we could see him getting more & more "drunk" till he literally just fell over & went to sleep, he was there for four or five hours "sleeping it off" Also had woodpeckers hammering on our metal Flue pipe to announce his presence to all the "ladypeckers"

  11. Despite all the noise to the contrary, Health care in Canada (certainly here in BC) isn't "free" at all I get a bill every month from the Provincial Gov't & I pay $92/ month (it used to be $132/ month till my pension income dropped) for MSP (Medical Services Plan) for my wife & I to obtain "Free" medical care. That comes out of my after tax income! We also pay $5000/ year for "extended" cover. Anyone who tries to convince you otherwise is talking out of their collective a$$es.
  12. Makes no difference the colour of the party or politicians that are elected... they all worship at the cash cows that are "Crown Corporations"
  13. I also forgot in my first post, that 3rd party liability is limited to $1 million. If we want more than the basic $1M we have to pay extra! & of course 'they' advise that we should carry at least $3 million. It's just one HUGE racket. The courts here have pegged total incapacity (ie loss of both arms & both legs at $360k) that's IT that's the maximum you can be awarded for quadriplegic injuries! As for the earlier comment about politicians being in the insurance co's pockets, here the politicians (effectively) ARE the insurance company. They make noises about how any surpluses should be given back to drivers in the form of rebates BUT then decide no, they'll take any surpluses instead! From 2013-2016 the Insurance Corp of BC was projecting profits of $1 Billion & the Gov't was planning to scoop around $160 Million each year that goes into General Revenue. So tell me, why would the Gov't have any interest at all in reducing insurance premiums?
  14. That's still a LOT cheaper than here in BC! One has to ask why???? We're not allowed to shop around, surely that must infringe my Charter Rights somehow (freedom of choice?) What we need is competition, with a Gov't run monopoly we're never going to get ahead. If it can be done south of the 49th it could be done here!
  15. :rotf: :rotf: I received my renewal notice a few days ago, Cad $1079 (yes you read that right!) & that does NOT include collision/ comprehensive. I have that with a private insurer another $170! Before anyone says shop around... we can't we can only obtain our 3rd party liability from our Provincial (Read Gov't run) Insurance Corp. I have a good driving record, but the Max discount I will ever be allowed is what I have now, 43% (& have had for a number of years now) without that discount they advise I would be paying $1904!!! they proudly announce at the bottom of the renewal that My Savings this year are $825! Oh! & that is with a senior's discount & the vehicle cannot be used for ANY kind of work related use. If it is that costs more! Every year the company applies for & always gets a 4-5% increase in premiums, we have been told that within the next five years premiums may have to increase by up to 42%!!!!!!!!!!! Have a nice day guys.
  16. I'm wondering if ALL Rotella oils are now JASO certified. I was in a local Canadian Tire & I noticed they had plain old "Rotella T" (ie. not T4 or T6) & on the drum it indicated JASO certified. Don't remember the exact price but it was a 5 gallon drum for around $65 Cad
  17. Hey Eagle, here's one thread link http://www.venturerider.org/forum/showthread.php?126688-RSTD-Lighting-(again) Alsbar has done the work & has a good thread, there are other threads that I'll add here when I find 'em here's another http://www.venturerider.org/forum/showthread.php?90939-LED-headlight-conversion here are the LED's that I was thinking about using http://www.ebay.com/itm/7-LED-Chrome-Projector-Daymaker-Headlight-Light-4-5-Passing-Lights-For-Harley-/232066084028?fits=Make%3AHarley-Davidson&rmvSB=true & here's another thread with other suggestions: http://www.venturerider.org/forum/showthread.php?124859-any-advice-fitting-additional-lighting & this one http://www.venturerider.org/forum/showthread.php?90939-LED-headlight-conversion Hope all that helps
  18. I have three, 1/2 helmet mostly for summer, a 3/4 that can be worn with/ without a flip visor & a full face (convertible) mostly for shoulder/ winter seasons. But I do find the full face claustrophobic & very heavy. I do value my brain so would not ride without some form of protection. My wife had a nasty accident when she was much younger, broke her cheekbone, jaw & had lip/ mouth trauma & was a bit of a mess. She was wearing a 3/4 with a chin cup (that had deep pavement grooves in it) so it could have been worse! Needless to say when we started riding a few years back she was adamant that she wanted a full face. She made me get one too, that's the convertible. Here in I believe it's mandatory to wear a lid in all provinces/ territories. Even cyclists are supposed to wear helmets (in BC anyway) but many don't & there are very few tickets handed out. Doesn't take much of a bump on the head to cause serious & lasting problems. No thank you!
  19. I understand there's a bottled water company not a million miles from here They bottle & sell the exact same water that comes out of the town taps! People buy it! :rotfl:and pay more for it than they pay for their gas! I'll never understand people! I remember once many years ago we were hiking in the UK, a hot day, we came across a beautiful clear small stream flowing over an outcrop making a waterfall that was around 20 ft or so high, So we all drank, ate our sandwiches, filled our canteens. After our stop we climbed the outcrop & found...... a rotting sheep carcass in the stream just above the waterfall! Guess it did us no harm, still here fifty years on!

    Bikeless

Hey Tooch, looks like that lovely new bike has turned your whole world upside down! Sure looks like a nice ride, I sat a couple at a local dealer sometime ago & quite like the seating position. Thursday was the first day this week it hadn't snowed so Friday wasn't too cold we actually achieved double digits at 10 deg! So I took the small bike for a short spin, really enjoyed it. Hoping the weather will start to pick up a bit now, cause this winter has been a real PITA! Take care & have fun on that scoot when you do get to take her out
  22. Why not measure the tongue weight as it is now in stock form. add weight in the back (three or four buddies will approximate your bike's weight) That should give you an idea of where to go, & what weight is needed up front & where to counterbalance the added weight in the back. If you decide it's "do-able" As you do your mods make sure that the TW doesn't alter much from what it is as stock. You will have to add some weight up front to counterbalance the bike in the back. Only thing is you are upping the total towed weight all the time, does there become a point that it's just too heavy? Don't know what you're using to tow the trailer. As has been stated you never ever want negative TW. You also want the whole rig to sit reasonably level when hooked up. Hope that helps
  23. Never mind one YEAR how'd you use that lot in one LIFETIME? lol Jeez I wouldn't have room in my house for all those!
  24. Wasn't that a Mom's often used saying.... "You'll put someone's eye out with that" Learned something the other day, I always thought BB stood for ball bearing... wrong! Apparently it was the projectile size that fell between sizes BBB & B. How's about that?
  25. I'm right handed too & I've wondered if it's because on a left turn I'm reaching more for the throttle so therefore not quite as comfortable? Thanks for your service, have a good one!
