Ar! Ar! I got a big truck! LOL Yep! there's absolutely nooooo cure for STUPID.

Let's face it, At the end of the day, it's all down to the bottom line! Polaris obviously think they are making or will make more from the Indian brand. I suspect that Polaris are looking to cash in on nostalgia & the "Indian" name, (Ha! It surprises me that they've not had to change the name & the logo with all the PC crap that's around) We walked into a Victory dealer some weeks ago & my wife fell in love with a used "Vision Ltd" they had in. That one sold, but we've been back a few times looking at new ones. Just don't know now. The Victory models are imho superior in every way. Looks, specs, handling, & feel, &... for my wife to love one they must have "something". But what do we know? Sad to see Victory name disappear. Let's hope someone with Vision (pun intended) will buy the name & take on the brand, it has been known to happen!
-
Sad to hear that! Not good to see any manufacturing industry go under. But also a bit of a smack in the face for those who bought a Victory over the past few years.

Ya! you could be correct Doug as it's the same show, same organizers, same exhibitors (except for maybe the local exhibitors) every year. The show starts off in Edmonton, a week later it's in Vancouver (Abbotsford) then it treks across country & Provinces east. I used to assist my riding school who exhibited & we like to meet friends there if we can. It's also nice to see all the manufacturer/ bikes in one place. For someone who's not been before though it could make for a fun & interesting day out. To the OP for

Hey Retrostude http://www.vancouvermotorcycleshow.ca/ Held at Tradex in Abbotsford (near Abbotsford Airport) Easier crossing may be Sumas It tends to be much the same each year. & some get bored with it. But we enjoy it, YMMV We didn't get there last year. Depends on what you're expecting. All the major manufacturers are usually there with new models, & some local dealers with show discounts etc but not a lot of clothing & accessories. Though usually 3 or 4 suppliers. Like any show it varies a bit year to year, biggest complaint I hear is the lack of accessories. Hope that helps

Ha! It seems the east is doing better than the west this year! Here in the Lower Mainland BC we've had zero & negative deg.temps for about three weeks now. plus a number of snow dumps! Very unusual for this area. The group I ride with usually have an outing to a local hostelry on 1st Jan. As long as roads are clear & dry we go (those who have their bikes laid up go in cages) & we usually have a great meal together. This year however the event was unfortunately cancelled after we had around 10" of NY eve, on top of the snow we'd had previously. Roads were in an awful state. Of course here our city councils just can't deal with it & side streets, sidewalks etc are still in a dreadful state. More snow is being forecast for this weekend! Just hope it clears for the MC show scheduled for 20th-22nd Jan. Anyway a slightly belated Happy New Year to all!

Hey Alsbar thanks for the post... So if I understand correctly you only used the chrome part of the two piece "ring mounting bracket?" the flat part (in the Amazon pic) isn't needed? I've also seen a similar HD sealed LED light unit on flea bay I'm thinking of doing something similar on my RSTD....Thanks BTW what's that fancy looking screen you have? Looks like there's adjustable ventilation built in?

83 venture vs royal
Kretz replied to Matt_P's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
No worries re Bike Bandit I bought parts from them in the past, despite the name I found them very good to deal with. No problems very quick service. I had stuff shipped to Sumas, Wa & then walked over to collect. Also got electrical parts from Ricks Motorsport Electrics... again super service. -
Merry Christmas to all, here's hoping that you can all make some happy memories with friends & family over the festive season. All down hill to the m/c shows & the 2017 riding season! Wishing everyone a safe & uneventful New Year! It's currently snowing like crazy again here, stay warm & safe! Watch for the crazies on the roads!

Canada to Cancun on the 250$ Venture - The full ride report
Kretz replied to jfman's topic in Watering Hole
:cool10:Great ride report, can't help thinking you maybe shouldn't have had those burgers! Ain't hindsight wonderful? Hope it all clears up soon & there are no lasting effects & you can be on your way again. This is a remarkable adventure that many of us wish we could do, but don't have the guts. (no pun intended!) lol Stay safe! -
:rotf:Hoo Boy SilvrT you're skating on thin ice there.... hope your wife doesn't see that post or you'll be out in the lol

Anyone have experience with these LED replacements
Kretz replied to Midnight's topic in Watering Hole
Hey Midnight my BIL lives in Tiverton! (not that that's anything to do with the price of eggs!) lol Check my post/ thread here: http://www.venturerider.org/forum/showthread.php?124859-any-advice-fitting-additional-lighting I asked similar, & someone suggested that LED headlight "bulb" with the tape heatsink on the back. Said he'd been using one for a while with no problems. I haven't got my aux lights mounted yet, waiting for warmer weather & will then do it all at one time. Would be VERY interested if you do go ahead, on your feedback, especially with the sealed beam unit, I too looked at those, but wasn't sure what the quality woud be at that price. Someone also suggested to look on FleaBay at the sealed beam units intended for Harleys. I'm told they are the same size only difference is they come complete with a Harley "Plug" which can just be cut off. Wires can then be connected as required. Good luck & please keep us updated. -
Too many dickheads out there... & the thing about Common Sense is, sadly, it ain't the common! I get so sick & tired of people trying to blame others for their own shortcomings & stupidity. Own up! Sailor Good Luck with your battle against the developer. I had 10 acres in the UK in a farming community, a developer bought a farm & buildings, barns etc not too far from me & turned it into a mini sub-division, about 8 houses. The people that bought there were constantly complaining about "farm noises", farmers working at night to get crops in, sheep bleating & "keeping them awake!!!!". Get over it people the farms, sheep etc were there long before they were. They chose to move to a farming community FFS!

Well our snow started again on Thursday/ Friday & came in waves. Just enough time to clear the garage apron & then it was covered again. Still haven't been able to get my driveway done, but a friend is bringing his snowblower over. All in all I'd say we've had around 12-15 inches. & we usually get very little. Temps are predicted to hover around zero for a some time so it'll take a while to move. It sure looks nice but is a bit of a pain when you have to go out in it.
-
Ha! Today we had our first snow of the season. :canada:Being on the west coast we don't usually get much snow & some of us ride year round. In fact I got out yesterday it was 5 degrees C but sunny & enjoyable, dress warm, my new neoprene face mask worked a treat. How different today.... lower temps & a anything from just a few to 20cm of snow & the place has fallen apart. Schools closed, numerous fender benders, trees & power lines down, public transit (train & bus) not running or reduced services, Stupid drivers who can't drive in snow.... Crazy!!! You'd think being in Canada we'd be able to cope with a bit of snow. Not at all! Now temps are predicted to drop, to -2 or -3 deg so now we're being warned of icy roads for the next few days then the possibility of more snow later in the week.

Thanks for the "Heads Up, Silvr T. I hate signing up for anything with auto-renewal. Magazines, subscriptions, stock market quotes etc It really bugs me "Get one full year for only $9.99!) They don't tell you & it's often very difficult to find the "regular" price which is often 5, 10 or more times the cost of what you originally signed up for.
-
Thanks for the info guys, appreciated! We do use "Ship Happens" in Sumas, as it's only 20km from home (there are four or five receiver/shippers there) They charge $4 (US or Cdn). Which I think if very fair. (Shopping was great when our $ was at par, not so much now at $1.35) Customs occasionally ding us for additional tax/ duty but most times they don't. Border wait times can often be a PITA. I remember one time my wife saw a m/c jacket here in Canada, it was an end of line, the dealership only had one but it was too small. They couldn't order one in her size. Cost was $396 (our $ was at par then) I found the identical jacket in my wife's size (brand new at a dealer in NY) on flea bay $105!!! She got the jacket! We had that shipped to Sumas, declared it & didn't get dinged!

Hey Puc, here's wishing you everything good! Positive Vibes from the Great White North. You sound like a positive guy, try to stay that way. All the very best!
-
Yep! That's about the size of it but don't forget that's Canadian $$$ & that's $40 on sale! Regular is $47 & change PLUS tax! I've often heard from guys south of the border that T6 is "20 bucks a gallon" here we get 5 Liter jugs so a bit more than a US gallon (3.78 liters) but even if you do the sum for the "extra" & take into account the exchange rate it should still only be around Cd$36 not Cd$47. We get screwed with all sorts of things like that. Don't even think of looking at stuff like Motul Synthetic. Crazy prices. I do shop online & cross border but often freight charges bump up the cost again. Often we just have to "suck it up & quit whining" which I'll now do! LOL

Not certain but I believe Canadian Tire stores are franchised, I spoke to THE manager - (owner?) of the store so I felt that was as far as I could go. He did offer me a "deal" but even that was twice the wrongly advertised price. so I just left.
-
No I guess not, but many stores will honour a mis-priced item when you point it out & then re-price it. Wow! just been checking around (out of interest) Amazon.ca Cd$57 for a 1 gallon jug Amazon.com $US66 (so around Cd$86) for 3x1 gal jugs. Welcome to Canada Eh? I have seen it as low as US$21/ gallon
-
So I use Rotella T6 & keep an eye on prices for when (if) it goes on sale. Today was in my local Canadian Tire & they have 5L jugs of T6 5W-40 on sale at 39.95+tax (Regular $47 & change +tax) A couple of shelves below are six 5USgal (18.9 L) drums of T6 marked at $69.95. So I thought that's a deal, so I took a 5 USG drum to the checkout. That's $147 (& change) says the checkout girl. I said no it's sale marked at $69.95 Well she said it's coming up at 139.95 plus tax. So I called for a manager, after checking he says it's the 15W-40 that is $69.95 & we don't have that in stock. "Someone" must have moved that one drum or put it in the wrong place, (while he looks accusingly at me) I said there are SIX drums all in that same shelf location all marked on the shelf at $69.95. He refused to honor the shelf sticker saying "things always get moved around" that's retail. By the time we left the store he had the "auto dept" staff moving the SIX drums to a different location priced at $139!

horns driving me nuts!!!
Kretz replied to baylensman's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
Definitely use a relay. I added two Stebels on my Vulcan, wakes people up no bother. Run a wire direct from the battery or aux fuse box. I'd like a similar setup on my RSTD but it's difficult trying to find a suitable mounting position. Enjoy your Santa parade! -
Happy Thanksgiving to all our friends south of the Border. Here's wishing you all happiness & an enjoyable holiday with family & friends. Be Thankful for all that we have. (& why don't we have a larger US Flag emoticon?)
