  1. Ok, here it is. I went through a whole stack of papers and a great deal of ink but I think I found the color scheme that I am going to go with. What do y'all think?
  2. Is that my only option? I am really not thrilled about a bigger windsheild. The stock one seems huge already and I personally need more air circulation. I am trying to tackle both issues.
  3. My wife complains that it is hard for her to hold her head up against the wind. I have the stock hight windsheild and still have the stock clear lower wind screens on. I let my dad and mom ride the bike (they ride a HD with no windsheild) and my mom complained about the same thing. I wanted to cut my windsheild down but I am having second thoughts now. Does anyone know what causes this and what, if anything, I can do about it?
  4. Ok, for all you "large ipod" guys out there. My father-in-law is a computer guru and is helping me with a new development. An ipod mount that does not translate any vibration into the ipod. He helped design a anti vibration module for bose stereo so he has the know-how and I can give him rider feedback. I will keep you updated as we go.
  5. I am going to do this. I think it would be easier that blindly feeling around (BY THE EXHAUST) for the button on the side cover. Thanks for the tip.
  6. Yeah that worked! I was pulling on the plug part and not the ring. As soon as I grabbed the ring and pulled it came right out. Thanks.
  7. I split the fairing and ran the cable up my handlebars and mounted my ipod like this... http://www.venturerider.org/forum/showthread.php?t=13469 Hope this helps!
  8. Hey, Rich! It is not whats on the outside, it's whats on the inside that counts! BTW that fender looks awesome. I talked to a friend of mine who does air brush work like that and asked him to do a radical flame job on my whole bike. He said that materials alone would cost him $200-$300. And that was no charge for labor. I do have a friend I go to church with that has offered the use of his paint booth and offered to spray it if I do all the prep work. My dad and I did the same thing to his last boat he owned and it came out looking like a professional job. Prep is the easy part. The hard part is keeping the drips and runs out of the paint. If my buddy does the paint, he is pro and can keep that from happening. I drew up some paint schemes that I think will look good and I will post them just as soon as I can.
  9. I haven't even tried to use the CB yet. I don't know that I ever will because I have a two way com that attaches to my helmet. For now I just have the antenna off so it doesn't fall of while I am under way. I will look for the tab on the CD player. It is pointless to have a big bulky CD player when I have an ipod. And check out how I mounted mine. http://www.venturerider.org/forum/showthread.php?t=13469
  10. Ok, so late last night after spending about an hour on this site I got inspired and went out to work on Cassy (thats the name of my RSV). I am trying to remove the saddle bag but I cannot figure out how to unplug the CD changer to get it out of the saddle bag. HELP! I darn-near broke the plug trying to get it off. Somebody here has to know how to do this. Also, I was messing with the CB antenna and it just lifted off of its mount. Is it supposed to do that or did I break it? Need input!!!!!!!!!!!!! (P.S. I am removing the saddle bag rails and the CD changer just in case anyone is interested in purchasing them.)
  11. This is the cheapest and easiest ipod mount that I have found. It cost me about $9 for the case and I had the hose clamp in my tool box. Here is how to do it. 1. Use a razor blade to cut out the soft lining in the back of the ipod case directly behind the circle cut out of the face of the case. 2. Open the case and lay it flat on it's face. 3. Mark and cut two horizontal slots on the back of the case about 1/2" apart and about 1" long. Try to center the slots where you removed the soft lining. (I used a dremmel with a cutting wheel to cut the slots. They do not need to be wide, just completely through the metal) 4. Use a grinding attachment to smooth out the rough edges on the slots. (This step is important! It will prevent scratches on your handlebars and ipod.) 5. From the INSIDE of the case, push on the piece of metal between the two slots that you just cut. You don't have to push hard, just enough so that you can feed the hose clamp through them. 6. Feed the hose clamp end through one slot from the back and out the other slot and then feed it around the handlebars. 7. Adjust to final mounting position and clamp down tight. I have attached some pics below. I hope they help. Here is the link for the case although I found mine at Walmart so I did not have to pay the s&h. Check there before you order online. I have the 2nd gen ipod nano. 1st gen ipod Nano: http://www.accstation.com/dappnanolc18.html 2nd gen ipod Nano: http://www.accstation.com/dappnanolc52.html 30g-80g ipod: http://www.accstation.com/dappipodca23.html
  12. Sounds good, Rich. I will try to clear some time soon. Hey Jeremy, I did the full mod on the exhaust. I pulled out the cone and cut out the rear baffle plate and that short pipe welded to it. It is probably too loud for some but I like it. It really turns heads when I am riding.
  13. Yeah, mine will definately be two or maybe three tone. I like the way HD does two tone with a fat stripe in the middle but I want it to look different. I have thought about the current style on the RSTD, how the paint job slants toward the back. That way I could keep the Yamaha look but just say I stole it from the RSTD so I could have the style AND comfort. Just imagine a paint job like this on a RSV! http://www.starmotorcycles.com/star/products/modelimagelib/413/3/1/0/image.aspx
  14. Thanks for all the input. It looks like I have alot of things to try. Where does one go to have the carbs synched? Does the dealer have to do that and how much does it cost? To answer your question, Rich, I only have about 24,xxx miles on her. We still need to go riding. I will send you an e-mail. Maybe Saturday we could hook up.
  15. Ok, I know that this is like my 3rd post this week but just bear with me. I have only had my bike for 4 months and have alot to learn. I recently "punched out" the stock mufflers on my RSV. It really gave me the sound I was looking for. The exhaust has been popping on deceleration (which I figured was normal and I needed to get the carbs synched). I did not have time to have the carbs worked on before my last trip to Southern California (about 800 miles round trip). The bike ran great going there but started running a little rough coming home. I set the cruise at 80mph (which according to police radar is only 75mph) almost the whole way. Also, my mpg was about 32 on the trip there and 30 on the way back. I was getting 42-45mpg around town before. So here is my question: Do I need better air cleaners that will let more air in now that my exaust breathes better or could this be a simple maintanence problem such as needing new spark plugs? Also, am I riding too fast and causing my bike to be outside the power-band creating poor gas mileage? Any and all input is welcomed. Confused, Bubba:confused24:
  16. That looks good, Larry. I am thinking about some silver in there somewhere. Was it hard to tear the bike apart?
  17. I have a '99 RSV. The paint is starting to show some age (I guess the previous owner didn't keep it waxed) so I am thinking of painting it. If I do paint it, I want to change the colors. Does anyone have pics of custom painted RSV's to help give me some ideas? I have some thoughts but most of them have come from custom painted HDs. I would not mind some average-joe mistaking my bike for a HD but I also want fellow RSV riders to recognize my bike as what it is. Just looking for Ideas,:lightbulb:I am not trying to copy anyone.
  18. Ok...well I might just buy the air pump and attach it to see how fast it pumps up the shock first before I install it. I am also looking at a way to put the Harley quick release trunk system on my bike. I don't think it would be too hard but it would require some fabrication and welding. I will let you all know how it turns out. (when I decide to do it, that is.)
  19. I am thinking of purchasing this air compressor, http://www.slime.com/product.php?product=40001, and mounting it in my saddle bag. I thought I could hot wire it with a fuse and a switch on the handle bars or fairing and a gauge and release valve so I could adjust the air in the rear shock while riding (just in case the road conditions change. Has anyone done this or does anybody have any advice?
  20. Ok, so here is the deal (for those of you that care). It all started with Harley's. Ever since Harley has put speedo's on their bikes they have only manufactured ONE speedometer for all the different bikes. The only thing that changed was the faceplate and the mounting location. The cables and inner workings were all the same. What that meant is that some bikes (with bigger wheels and/or tires) were accurate on their speed and others were reading faster than the actual speed. Since Most bike manufacturers have followed many of the ways of Harley, this has carried over to almost all motorcycles on the road today. I just look at it this way: I can cruise at 80mph on a 75mph hwy and not have to worry about getting a ticket. It's all in your head, man.
  21. That would make sense since it did start just after I had my seat off to charge the battery. Thanks, Salty. I am going to try that first.
  22. I have a '99 RSV and have had no problems with it for the 3 months that I have owned it. However, recently when I am out riding and am running the bike under load (climbing a hill or accelerating from a dead stop) the speakers cut out. It only does this under load. I thought it might be the MP3 jack because that is what I am usually listening to but it does it whether I am listening to the radio or a CD as well. I am leaving this Sunday on a trip and would like it fixed before then. As far as I know there have not been any aftermarket mods done to the stereo. Any advice anyone has would be greatly appreciated.
  23. Is it hard to undo all the wiring if I do decide to take it off?
  24. I just bought a '99 RSV and I am thinking about removing the trunk in between long trips. Is there anyone out there that has done this and if so how difficult is it to do? I only plan on taking 2-3 trips per year that I would need the trunk. Is it worth the effort to take it off?
