  1. I didn't see the miles listed. The price should vary considerable based on how many miles are on the bike. It appears that he has had repaired a lot of the typical stuff that it might need such as carb rebuild and clutch slave cylinder replacement. If it has 30k or 40k miles on it and everything worked, it would be worth about what he is asking. I would guess the fork seals are leaking because of what he said and all of these bikes have really soft front springs that could use some new progressive springs that cost about $80 on ebay to purchase. I probably overpaid for mine. About 2 1/2 years ago I bought an 89 the same color with a few more trim options that had 6k miles on it for $3800. It was as pristine as you will find.
  2. In late 2008 the recession was in full swing and the auto industry was in the toilet. I bought the like new 2006 Miata with only 12k miles on it for a low price because the dealer was desperately trying to stay in business. $15k My 17 yr old son who had been driving a FWD Focus lost it in the wet and totalled it 6 weeks later. The insurance co. paid me $17,500 for it which was about retail. But, it was hard to know what real retail was because the books had not been revised to reflect the actual sale prices at that time.
  3. Well Arby, tomorrow came and passed. How about a photo of that new treasure!!
  4. Yep, Donald Trump is going to be our next president at age 70. So life can be very exciting in retirement! No need to wear out that recliner.
  5. Yep, be true to yourself and enjoy what hobbies you like. Collecting guns is a lot safer than riding motorcycles I'm sure. I think the main thing is to have hobbies and keep your mind entertained.
  6. Interesting! I stopped the video and looked it over and didn't see any wheels under it. What the heck supports it?
  7. Sounds to me like you have a leaking clutch slave cylinder. Very typical issue and the level going down in the clutch MC reservoir is one clue.
  8. I only have liability insurance on my two old bikes, my 2002 F150, and my 2005 Dodge Magnum. So, if I wrecked them, I would be out the value of the vehicle. My wife's 2013 Infiniti has full coverage. I even dropped the wind and hail coverage on my house. It's fairly expensive because everybody east of I95 pays the same rate and I got tired of subsidizing the beach houses. I'll be okay as long as one of my pine trees doesn't fall on the house or gets hit by a tornado. Mulitple hurricanes have been direct hits on my home and so far, I haven't had any wind damage. (Knock on Wood!)
  9. When my son wrecked his (my) car in 2008, I was paid retail for his car which came out to about $2k more than I paid for it just 6 weeks prior.
  10. AND, you repaired the second gear issue didn't you?!!!!!
  11. It's like Fred Sanford used to say, "I'm going to be a dirty old man until I'm a dead old man.". Actually, I think most women of all ages like being told that they are beautiful. When you are young, there are pretty girls and not so pretty girls. But when you get old, they are all beautiful!!!!
  12. Yep, when you flirt with some pretty young lady and she thinks you are being cute (and harmless), you know you are over the hill.
  13. I don't think I could fold my legs up enough to ride that one. Looks like fun though.
  14. If you are not already exercising, I'd highly recommend getting on an exercise program. It's the best medicine of all.
  15. Congratulations!! There will still be plenty of work to do around the homestead I'm sure.
  16. My wife likes to eat at Panera Bread. They have kiosks but you don't have to use them and most people don't. She used it one time and it took a loooonnng time to figure out the order. And you still have to go to the counter to complete the order. Doesn't seem to work out well there.
  17. If you go to partzilla.com or boats.net (same company) you will find parts fische and be able to order most of the OE parts you need. I don't have a good opinion of K&N filters because every article I've read that compared them to regular paper filters, they don't filter as well.
  18. Saw on the news that Syracuse NY had 20" and it was still coming down. I worked at the Nine Mile Nuclear Plant not far from Syracuse and that lake effect snow fell about 4 times a week during the winter I worked there it seemed.
  19. 1999 thru 2013 are the second generation. No major changes during the run. First gen is 83 thru 93. I don't have a second gen but from reading the forum, I understand that the rear shock failure is one thing to look for. First gen shocks last longer. Also the fuel pumps tend to fail more often than on the first gen. Usually, it seems to be the points. But, it is a very reliable bike. The first gen uses regular fuel so I suspect the second gen does also.
  20. Great reliable bikes. Some have a loud clutch whine so you want to hear it on the road before buying. If it hasn't been ridden much the carbs may need cleaning. Balancing is no big deal.
  21. I didn't realize that you could get an E3 dual compound front tire. The information I've seen says that dual compound is only available on the rear.
  22. One of those infrared temp sensors is a great tool to have and they are not that expensive. It could warn you of a problem if you find one exhaust pipe is hot but not as hot as the others.
  23. Having collision insurance, then Big Red will probably be totalled won't it? It won't take a lot of repairing to equal the book value of an 83? Anyway, that's not that much to worry about. The first thing will be to get you healed.
  24. In that kind of situation, a driverless car would be a great thing! Uber may be the next best. I know you are relieved that you didn't have to force it on him!
