  1. In most cases, couldn't you just clean and repack the existing bearings? Doesn't seem to me they would get much wear.
  2. Don't know about that. Looking can get you all fired up to buy something you don't need. I used to have a really bad habit of looking at cars. One year I owned 6 different cars. They were all used and it didn't cost me much if anything to buy and sell them. I never traded with a dealer. My wife is still working so a MH wouldn't get utilized that much right now unless I toured the country without her!..... Since she is 17 years younger, I will probably be too old when she does retire! So I just need to go through my Venture and start riding to all the meets!
  3. At the retiree luncheon Tuesday, I talked with a old co-worker who is handling the estate of another co-worker. He's selling a 2002 37' Newmar Class A motorhome that is on a Freightliner chassis and with a Cummins diesel pusher. 45k miles. Asking payoff of $27,500. Tempting to at least go look at it.
  4. I'm still wondering what else you received that day besides coconuts!!!?? Sounds like that woman was really turned on!
  5. Congratulations! Working on the Plan!
  6. Yesterday I went to the retiree luncheon for people who worked for nuke plant where I used to work. Talked to a retiree who tours a lot on his Wide Glide, whatever that is. He said he takes it easy on it and doesn't exceed 60 or 65 mph even when touring out west. And, he had over 180k miles on his bike with no engine rebuilds. Never heard of a Harly lasting that long.
  7. In 64, the 327 engine was rated 250hp. It had smaller valve heads.
  8. Yep, it was available in the Chevelle and the Corvette too I believe. In 66 it wasn't available in the Chevelle and the 300hp engine was downrated to 275hp (lie). In 67 it was available again as a 325hp engine in the Chevelle, 350hp in the Corvette. I personally saw two of those 67 325hp chevelles set up for drag racing in the "stock" classes turn 110mph in a quarter mile at the Kinston NC dragstrip. They were running low gears, maximum width 7" wide slicks and headers which were allowed in "stock" classes. I'm sure the engines had been gone through and probably were not stock. They beat all of the 396 Chevelles that day.
  9. I lived and breathed Chevys back then and I never heard of a 350hp 327 in a 64 Impala. They were still offering the old truck blocks that year, the 409cu in. Are you sure it wasn't the 340hp 409 cu in engine? In fact a high school friend's dad bought him a new 65 Impala with the old style 425hp 409(427)?. They switched to the new angle head 427 block in the same year 1965. Anybody remember the Nascar 427 mystery engine? Junior Johnson was unbeatable in his 63 chevy with that engine if it didn't blow up. It was the new engine design that had the angled valve heads with the straight valve covers. the old style engine has valve covers that were not straight on the bottom side. We were so curious about his engine that we climbed up on the back of one of his flat bed trucks at Darlington and pulled the tarp off one his engines and looked at it. If his crew had caught us??????:Avatars_Gee_George:
  10. My 65 Chevelle that I ordered came with the 12 bolt 3.31 rear. It also had the Muncie aluminum case 4 speed transmission. The next year, Chevy started putting in saginaw cast iron case 4 speeds
  11. AT&T recently bought DirectTV and now they are trying to buy Time Warner unless our corrupt Congress denies them of their desired monopoly. I hope they are denied.
  12. I went to Sturgis this past August driving my truck on the way back from Wyoming and I found parking just a few blocks from the middle of Sturgis every time. Wasn't bad at all.
  13. That brings back memories. I ordered a new 65 Chevelle like I wanted as far as I could afford. It had the 300hp 327 cu in engine, 4 speed trans, posi-traction rear and the factory tachometer. When you got the tach, the clock was mounted on top of the dash. Sticker was $3098. I always kicked myself for not ordering the 350hp 327 engine. It was about $60 more. I did later install the 350hp cam in my engine. I put 100k pleasure packed miles on that car, many drag races, some even on the drag strip with the exhaust caps removed. Sold it when the Army shipped my butt to S. Korea. Part of my misspent youth!!
  14. I'd love to go also, but I don't want to deal with all the crowds. I also read that the hotel rates are horrendous for the time around the event.
  15. Wow! That is such wonderful news, Puc!!!!!!!
  16. The original post was political.
  17. I'm surprised that he lumped Hollywood with Fox News? Lots of liberals hate Fox News which is by far number 1 in the ratings. The other networks are so far into the liberal progressive camp that they still don't realize why Donald Trump is going to be our next President. John Cleese is British and should spout his opinions to the British people, plenty of stupidity there. The British people are still supporting their "royal family", the family that was their slave masters!!! CNN admitted that they did everything they could to get Hillary elected. And it was the New York Times that told their employees that it was their job to get Hillary elected. We need Fox News to counteract all of the other networks. It reminds me of when super conservative Jesse Helms was one of the NC senators. A coworker commented we needed Jesse in the Senate to counteract Ted Kennedy.
  18. Yep, with the V-Max engine and an 8 speed automatic transmission!
  19. Much of the Harley market is all about image. The aero looking swoopy motorcycle probably isn't the image most buyers are looking for. I'm not speaking for myself. I've never wanted a Harley. After learning to ride on my vibrating Honda CB350 parallel twin and then riding my 73 Honda CB750 Four back in 73, I could never be happy with the vibration no matter how cool I looked. Make mine a four that functions well. I never cared to be or tried to be cool. I might would be happy with a BMW R bike?
  20. We have to live where we can get a job. When I was laid off after 21 years when the company was downsizing and trying to shed as many retirement obligations as possible, I started working temporary contracts doing the same job at other nuke plants. I spent winters in Nebraska, upstate Wisconsin, Illinois, Michigan, Ohio, mid-state New York, Virginia, and Pennsylvania. I had my fill of the frozen north but I was happy to get the jobs. The plant northwest of Richmond had snow a foot deep at Christmas. I also worked in Fl two times, in the Crystal River area and in Homestead for over 3 1/2 years. I loved the weather, the water, and the fishing in southern FL! Right after I win the lottery, I'm buying a house in the Keys! Ha!
  21. Sunday, we had our first and only day so far that the temp stayed below freezing. Every day since then it's gotten warmer and it's supposed to be 69 degrees today and 71 tomorrow! I likes it!
  22. Being an old fart and knowing about all the advice and predictions from the "experts" in the past, it's hard not to be skeptical. Remember when the lack of an ozone layer was going to be catastrophic? When was the last time you read an article about the ozone layer? Remember when they said eat margarine instead of butter? Eggs were bad for you? On and on. I'm one old fart mound of fat skepticism!
  23. My opinion doesn't count since I will never buy a new bike that expensive but I didn't like the swoopy design of their bikes. They should have had one model that looked like a Harley since that is what everybody is copying anyway. All the other bike manufacturers aren't selling that many bikes seems to me except for Harley. Makes me wonder how they are staying in business. Probably from selling smaller bikes internationally.
  24. I had a 59 Chevy Impala 2drhdtp, 283 cu in 230hp, 3 speed manual with overdrive. I stopped and let the clutch out quickly with the gas floored and broke the left side motor support. The engine fan started clanging against the metal fan shroud and scared the crap out of me. I thought I had broke the transmission. Those were the days before motor supports had safety catches to prevent the engine from lifiting.
