  1. Yep, I think I tied mine down around the fork tubes at the brace. I also tied the front wheel to the front of my trailer and also had two straps on the rear.
  2. I hauled my 89 venture home on a 5' x 8' open trailer like Lowes sells. It wasn't long enough. Ended up loading it diagonally to get it to fit with the tailgate/ramp up which had to be up. Then there was so much weight on the right front of the trailer that the bed tilted down on that corner. I was afraid some trailer welds would break but they didn't.
  3. Seems like there aren't that many newish smaller bikes with an upright seating position. Plenty of cruisers if that is your style. My Kawasaki ZN700 has a dry weight of 498lbs and is so easy to push around the garage. Pushing around the Venture is a high risk situation, high risk of it falling over. The "adventure" bikes seem to be the latest craze. The one liter Vstrom weighs just over 500 lbs and might be a possibility. And they aren't that expensive to buy used. The BMW RT bikes supposedly have an upright seating position and all day riding comfort. Ain't cheap though.
  4. The bars listed for sale are for the Vmax. After looking at my 89, I think the filter conversion will fit the Ventures just fine. It will be easier to change the filter and the filters will most likely be less expensive. I'm sure lots of Venture owners will chime in and tell us all about it.
  5. Most people won't let a potential customer ride a bike unless they know they are experienced. It's a big risk. I'm glad it worked out for you. Did you tell him about venturerider.org? Sounds like he may need our help and guidance.
  6. Beautiful bike! My favorite color!
  7. Take a look at this.
  8. The wires on the Gen Is are copper core that essentially have no resistance.
  9. It's a 4k ohm, 4,000 ohm, difference in resistance in the two caps.
  10. The spark should be better with the 5k ohm caps, so it should be a good mod if there are not detrimental effects.
  11. From what I understand, the stock spark plug caps have a resistance of about 9k ohms and the NGK replacements have a resistance of 5k ohms. My bike evidently has the OE caps that have 9k ohms resistance. If I use the NGK caps, will this cause a problem with the TCI? Can it handle the lower resistance? Thanks!
  12. Spokane Dave, Would you give us a review of your motorcyle lift. It looks like a great tool to have! Thanks!
  13. Sounds like a hard working farmer's breakfast!
  14. I suppose you will have to take it much farther away, hopefully to a place it likes better. Is there a farm about 50 miles away where it can get plenty of food?
  15. Looks like the foot pegs are really high. I don't think my 72 year old legs would like being folded up that much.
  16. There is a statement about needing a crossbar? Is that for the Vmax or is one needed for the Venture?
  17. What shade of grey is hun grey? Never heard of that one:o I'm convinced that it isn't so much what you eat, but how much you eat that kills you. I do try to minimize my consumption of sugar. No pop in my house. I drink coffee in the mornings and distilled water the rest of the time.
  18. I hope you feel much better now Freebird! Do you guys get flu shots? The last one I got was about 25 years ago and about 3 weeks later I got the flu so bad I was afraid I was going to live! It must have worked though because I haven't had the flu since then. The medical profession will tell you that there is no chance that the shot will give you the flu. I flag that as BS!
  19. Looks like it has a comfortable seat for one person and an upright seating position. I think it has possibilities for one rider touring. 4 exhaust pipes probably indicate a smooth running haul butt 4 cylinger engine. Looks to be similar to the Kawasaki Versys. Definitely not the cruiser style seating position that seems to be the preferred choice these days.
  20. What the heck is that built on the side of the hill in the next to last photo?
  21. If you take an infrared thermometer with you, (I bought one at Autozone.)you can check the temperatures of the exhaust pipes and tell if they are all firing properly. The 90 and older models have a 2 brush starter that won't spin the engine as fast as the 91 and up models that have a 4 brush starter. A common mod is to replace the older starter with a 4 brush. Be aware that the left front brake caliper and the rear caliper are controlled by the pedal and the right front brake caliper is controlled by the lever on the handlebar. Good luck with your hunt for a great bike!
  22. It's different if you want to full time for a while and move around the country and really get to see and enjoy the sights. I worked temporary contract engineering jobs at nuclear power plants for almost 20 years in over a dozen states before retiring. The idea of using a TT or motorhome appealed to me because finding an apartment was almost always one of the worst things about a new contract. And the idea of not having to pack and haul so much stuff from home to the new jobs was very attractive. But it just didn't make sense for me. Many of my jobs were in the frozen north where the campgrounds are typically closed in the winter. Usually, I could rent an apartment for less money than the cost of renting a campsite. I went through the debate with myself several times and just couldn't rationalize using a TT or motorhome. When I worked at the Nine Mile Nuclear Power Plant close to Oswego, NY a coworker fulltimer paid $600 / month for a campsite. I rented a 2 bedroom apt for $420. I furnished it with what I could pack into my F150 with camper shell on the back.
  23. Do you still have your DD214? I still have many copies and also my discharge certificate.
  24. After a while it's much cheaper to rent hotels and apartments.
