  1. First decided to finally finish assembling my Piggybacker. Early afternoon I was pleasantly surprised by a visit from Niagara135 (Steve) and his wife Cindy and had an enjoyable chat. After they left, I went back to the task at hand, only to be surprised a few minutes later by Big Tom and Tater, along with his friend Daryl (sp) and his wife whom we are embarrased to say we can't remember her name but were glad to meet the two of them. Got to swing a leg over a Valkrye and was thoroughly impressed with how low it is and how easy to balance. Me thinks I would like a touring version of one of those!! Anyways, after a nice visit by those 4 I actually got the Piggybacker in one piece, just a little bit more to do. Sure is nice to see something that looks like a trailer rather than three large pieces laying around! Weather was super, company was greatly appreciated, and I got something accomplished!!
  2. I was driving through Clay City, KY today on my way to visit a customer when I saw a black 2002 Midnight RSV parked at a store. I stopped and "stalked" the owner. Very nice gentleman and he is supposed to come by and visit us here at VentureRider. So...if you see a new member join up from Kentucky, give him a big welcome.
  3. As some of you know by now both me and my daughter who's 14 are amateur musicians. I have been a Fender man all my life but my daughter has went to the dark side and become a Gibson fan (just kidding I love me all), so a friend of a friend made arrangements for her to have a private VIP tour of the Gibson Guitar Tour Bus. The guys treated her like a celebrity and it was a very special visit for us both. Thought I would posta couple of pics they took. They even gave her an $8,000 59 re-issure Les Paul to play around on, very cool indeed!! 5. Oh, if you were wondering where he is I enjoyed cheese cake last night. After he left Meandogs, he headed my way, in the pouring rain, and arrived last night. He wanted to go to New Orleans ( of all things to visit the HD shop) before he and Lonna made there last leg to Texas. Oh, you did get that, to visit an HD shop, don't ask me why:whistling:. Anyway should arrive in Huston tonight. It took longer than we expected because of work on the bridge crossing the lake that I didn't know about and then the traffic in NO was terible, couldn't find a parking space even in the pay parking lot. So we got out of there and headed west and stopped to eat and saw them off to Texas about 3:30PM. He said he would find another Harley shop in Huston, oh well:think:.
  6. Anyone here ever go to Americade? We're thinking about going this coming year. Ride the BRP and Skyline drive, up to Americade, visit a friend in Vermont and then back in NY to visit family there. Got the Americade times in the mail yesterday and now I'm psyched up and starting to make plans. Any recomendations on where to stay?-Jack
  7. I am beginning to plan our next big ride for next year and we think Utah will be the destination. There will probably be 3 to 5 bikes with 6 to 9 people. Those of us that choose to ride from KY will meet those that want to fly in Las Vegas. From there we'll head to Utah. At a minimum we will want to visit Bryce Canyon, Zion and Arches national parks. Is it possible to visit these locations out of a central location or will we need to ride some type of loop? We would like to stay a few of days in one place if possible instead of changing hotels daily. Is there a location that we could stay for a couple of days and take in Zion and Bryce and then move to Moab for a couple of days to take in Arches? I've put together a loop route but, since we are not familiar with the area, I am concerned we may need to overnight in some pretty desolate areas which may not have hotels. Therefore, I am seeking advice on how best to see Utah. How many days should we need? Any recommendations on lodging, sites, etc. We'll most likely visit in late May or early June. Thanks, Dennis
  8. Hey gang, tell us about where you live and some of the recreation, land marks, or whaat ever is interesting about where you live. Post some pictures. Then we all gonna come and visit you and mooch all of your food and leave when the booze is gone.
  9. susan and i left the sc meet & eat and went south on I26 to orangeburg to visit edisto gardens. it's a real nice place to visit if you like nature. they have a walk along the edisto river thru a massive grove of cypress trees and also a huge garden with many varieties of roses with other flowers and shrubs. there are picnic areas and several resturants close by.
  10. To all us Canadians, have a safe and enjoyable Thanks Giving especially with the great summer weather we are having in Ontario. We are off to Boston for the weekend on the bike to visit my nephew and his very expectant wife(due on the 7th) hopefully Savanna will be born while we are there. Hal and Gayle
  11. :900[1]:I'll be heading out west from Casper, WY on the 14th or 15th for a week. Since I'm travelling solo I would like to invite anyone interested in joining me for a portion of the ride. My plan is to leave Casper and either cross South Pass and cut down through Flaming Gorge or down through Medicine Bow and Saratoga. Either way ending up at Vernal, UT. From Vernal to Duchesne then either Colton or Huntington, UT to Fairview, and then Nephi. From Nephi to Ely, NV. From Ely either US-6 & 95 or US-50 but ending up at Sparks to Susanville, CA. From Susanville to Redding then Arcata. Then up the coast to Crescent City and turn inland to Grants Pass, OR to visit a friend. From there to Roseburg and Coos Bay to visit family for a couple of days. Leave Roseburg probably on the 21st heading east (route undecided) across southern Idaho to Jackson, WY and back to Casper by the 23rd. Anyone like to make suggestions or ride along? PM or email me. Note that I avoid riding the concrete slab if at all possible. Just takes all the fun out of it for me. I ride anywhere from 300 to 600 miles a day depending on what looks interesting and camp out along the way. Jeff
  12. I'm planning a trip for next year for our (me & my wife ) anniversary. (It is my last state to visit. ) I needed some advice on which company to go with.
  13. Well tomorrow the wife and I are headed to PA. to visit our daughter for a few days. She lives in Northampton which is right around the corner from Catasauqua, PA (home of SportMax). I've been communicating with John (the owner) the past few weeks on changing out my Venture to the VMax final drive next time we came down to visit our daughter...I've never liked the top end gearing in the Venture, so hopefully this will move 5th gear more to my satisfaction. Hopefully, the wife and I can make a couple of day trips Thursday and Friday before we come home Saturday. I'll try to give a report once I return on the difference. Later...
  14. Well, not a good day today. I just got word that a good friend and former coworker finally passed away after a cruel battle with ALS. That's Lou Gehrig's disease. He was a helluva helicopter wrench who used to take care of an EMS helicopter with me in Fargo ND, and for the past six years he took care of one in Neenah WI. He was diagnosed back in December and it hit him like a sledgehammer over the next several months. He was the nicest guy anyone could ever want to meet, and was always willing to help anyone. He had more common sense than most people I know, and his word was good as gold. He just turned 41 this summer, less that 2 months before I did the same. He couldn't wait to teach his three year old son how to ride his mini-z, but he never got the chance. I can't imagine my 3 boys having to grow up without their dad. At least there are plenty of uncles around to give his son those experiences. His first loves were snowmobiles, helicopters, and his HD Sportster. He got me involved with vintage snowmobiles, and there are a lot of pictures of him and his sleds on my website. A lot of medical crews, pilots and patients owe their lives to him as a direct result of his expert and timely maintenance that kept his aircraft ready and safe. Fortunately, I was able to pack my family up in the car and go visit him last month. His wife didn't tell him we were coming, and he lit right up when we walked in the door. It was worth the trip just to see him light up like that. Unfortunately, he, and the rest of us, all knew it was the last time we would see him alive. I told his wife that I didn't know if I'd be able to make the funeral, but she said she was much happier that we took the time to visit when it still meant something to him. The funeral is Friday or Saturday, If I can't take the family again, I might try to ride the bike. It'll be an iron butt ride, but I don't know if I'll be able to go anyway, it's the nature of the job. http://homepage.mac.com/helomech/.Pictures/lakerun.gif
