1. My Venture is a 1985 and I'd like to swap out the 1200cc engine with a 1300cc from a 1988 Venture. Are there any issues that would prevent the newer engine from working out OK? I think you all know why................
2. I've bought an '87 1300 engine to swap with my '83 1200. I was told it would be a simple swap with no problems. Has anyone done this swap before and can you tell me what surprises are in store ? Jim O'D Darwin, Australia.
3. Just found this site, looking forward to lots of info as I delve into a new project. Here's my first problem: need a frame with a clear title to swap into. The bike I bought was complete and came with a bill of sale. Georgia will only register vehicles with a bill of sale that are 1985 or older. Tough lesson to learn! Going through the parts lists that are posted on this site, it looks like 1988-1993 all have the same part number. Can older frames be swapped into? I've read plenty to stay away from the 1983 frame due to potential failure on the center stand area. Anyone have a frame gathering dust in the garage they want to get rid of? Looking forward to learning lots more about these bikes! Thanks for the help.
4. For those of you who use a synthetic oil, when did you change over?

1st Ride of 2008...

Well this is a most unusual year for me. Usually my first ride of the season here in Western New York the temperatures are in the high 30's to mid 40's. Today the temps seemed to be in the mid-60's to low 70's and this is the first year I waited so long to get in my first ride of the year. Put on about 115 miles and the bike purred like a kitten. She was put away with stabil and the octane seemed just fine. I filled up and found that I got around 36 mpg (riding her hard). I did the VMax swap out so I was pleased with the mileage because I hoped on the Thruway and rode around 70-75mph. I took it up to 100 mph a couple of times to make sure the plugs stayed clean and the gas burned fast. The VMax swap out is the absolute best performance improvement you can do for the Venture with a modest investment!
6. I recently posted a comment regarding my first ride of the 2008 season and how happy I am with my V-Max rear end exchange. Anyway...some interest developed and I have decided to post some of my comments over here for others to see and add to. I know others here have also done this exchange, including Don (Freebird) and with this being the start of the riding season for most I thought others might like to hear about this exchange. Well this is a most unusual year for me. Usually my first ride of the season here in Western New York the temperatures are in the high 30's to mid 40's. The VMax swap out is the absolute best performance improvement you can do for the Venture with a modest investment! The V-Max swap out is taking the rear end gears from the V-Max and putting them into the Venture. There is a vendor who is listed here "Blue Ridge Mountain Sportmax" from the Eastern Pennsylvania area who specializes in doing this. The gearing in the V-Max, when placed in the Venture will lower 5th gear (not as high) and add more torque in all the lower gears, which improves two up riding and towing a trailer. Many of us believe that this is the way Yamaha should have went in the first place. Interestingly, many V-Max riders prefer the Venture set up as it gives them a higher 5th gear. A few of us here, including our host Don (Freebird) have done this swap out. Blue Ridge will sell you the rear-end (with the appropriate drill out for your speedo connection) for around $300.00 with you sending him your Venture rear-end gears as a core exchange. My daughter lives in Pa. about 15 minutes from John's shop (Blue Ridge Mountain Sportmax). John is an interesting fellow, specializes in V-Max's and custom bikes. After talking to John and others about the swap-out the wife and I visited our daughter for a week last Labor Day and I had John perform the swap out. The difference was night and day, best improvement I have ever seen on a bike, plenty of power and torque in all gears, no problem two up in hills or while towing...ride improvement was considerable and no more lugging while running through small towns. There are links here to Blue Ridge Mountain Sportmax...but here is their site address... http://www.rmsportmax.com/ Everytime I hop on this bike now I am satisfied and impressed with this improvement!
7. Any one going to the Motorcycle Swap Meet at the Rock Financial Showplace Novi Michigan this Sunday February 24 2008 ? http://www.motorcycleswap.com/
8. Talked the dealer into giving me a short windshield when I bought the RSV 06 since the one on there was a bit scratched up. They didn't have it so they left the tall one on and gave me the shorty when it came in. Never got the shorty out of the box. After some riding, and reading in forums, the part that can make the most noise (read significant other here) has said that she does not want the shorty on. Since I do not like unnecessary noises coming from the back I have decided to agree with her. (see not quite as dumb as I look after all). Any way here is the deal. If someone has a full height windshield in great shape (i.e. like new) and wants a shorty still in the box I will work a swap with them. Just PM me. The windshield I have is as follows PART#: STR-4XY02-50-00 DESC: WIDE,WINDSHIELD/LOW
9. I have a Guardian Bell I'd like to swap if anybody else is interested. Let me know here or PM.
10. I posted an offer to let members use my Time Share units at cost here: http://www.venturerider.org/forum/showthread.php?t=18368 But I also got the idea that there are undoubtedly other time share owners on this sight that might consider just swapping a week straight across without having to pay the normal trading fees? If you have a time share or vacation home that you might want to trade for a week in Cabo San Lucas, Mexico, give me a shout and we can talk about it. And if I hear from multiple members, I'll even keep track of it all and maybe try to organize a mini VentureRiders vacation swap group. You may not want mine in Cabo or me yours, but who knows what other matches we might find? If enough members have an interest, maybe we can even get Don to put up a vacation swap forum here? Just a thought... Goose
11. Okay, since nobody has started a thread like this I might as well get the ball rolling. Since we all know that the Guardian Bells are better if received from a friend we need to start a place to swap bells. I just got a few and need someone to swap a bell with. Any takers?
12. Hi all - I am happy to say that I was finally able to go get my "new" 07 RSV (to replace the 05 I crashed back in August). My broken collar bone is healing well, if a bit slow due to the amount of bone overlap. Anyway, the point of this post is to see if someone is interested in swapping trunk lids with me. I really don't like the way the rear trunk wing looks mounted on this bike, so the easiest option would be to swap trunk lids with someone who has a blue 07 and wants what I have. Here are some pictures of my trunk: If you have a stock blue trunk lid, I'd swap it for the discounted price of the rack and wing on mine - $360. That way you get a perfect trunk lid with the rack and wing already mounted for less than you can probably buy the rack and wing alone. For a trunk lid with only the rack installed, I'd swap for $230 (discounted cost of the wing). If you are interested and within a couple of hundred miles of Dallas, Texas, let me know. I don't mind riding to meet you, but shipping the trunk lids somewhere probably does not make much sense.
13. I figured this would be the best place to post this. I have access to an engine from and '83 VR. HOw much trouble would it be to replace the engine from an '86 VR with one from an '83? My bike has 115,000 miles and the '83 has only 24,000. If possible I would like to swap these engines. I know someone has done this, need to know what is involved. Chuck
14. My 84 was in storage for 12 years. It runs strong with no second gear issues but I do have a oil leak somewhere. It seems to be dripping a little down on the collector. The motor uses no oil and only has 22K on it. I have an 89 engine complete minus starter with only 15k. Should I change out the motors to avoid the 2nd gear issue that may show up later. This swap would fix the oil issue as well. Is this a plug and play exchange or are the carbs different. The 84 probably has the plastic impeller on the water pump as well. I might decide to keep the 89 engine until I loose second gear later then swap it out. The engine cases are a lot cleaner on the 89 compared to the 84.I think the head wrench at Skid's garage could handle this job.
15. does anyone know if I could swap the bigger venture seat to the tour deluxe without any major mods? 2005 model...thanks paul
