  1. Cancelled my reservations for MD. Just too darn much going on this year and $$ tight. Deciding to stay close to home this year. Doesn't help that we bought a new camper either. Feel like I should get my money out of it and have more family time. Won't be long my son will be feeling too old to do stuff with Dad and Mom. Hope you all have a good time and everyone is safe.
  2. At 04:00 I will hop on the mighty steed and head for MCRD San Diego to watch MY son graduate boot camp! He is now one of the Few And The Proud. As of Friday he will not only be my son but my brother. Semper Fi Ya'll:thumbsup:
  3. I want to wish every one a Good Friday. For many of us this is a day of mixed emotions as we sort through the tremendous suffering of our Lord and the great blessing of forgiveness found at the cross. "For God so love the world, He gave his one and only Son - that whoever believes in Him will not perish but have everlasting life."
  4. Today my son purchased an new 06 Tour Deluxe with 0 miles! His first motorcycle. Thanks to all who offered him good advice after he posted here yesterday. I thought it was a good deal but you all confirmed it. I'm excited for him and know he will love the bike. The only problem being he lives in Texas and I'm in Iowa so we won't be able to ride together very often.
  5. I was warned against motorcycles along with my two brothers. I was the family rebel, and years later (against my father's wishes) and after my "wild" years, I bought a motorcycle to commute to college. I have had many weird events over nearly 30 years of riding, and have been in a couple of accidents with injuries. Yet, I continue to ride, and believe I will as long as I have the physical capbilities. As my children grew up, I warned about the dangers, then my divorce kept me from day to day instruction. Now my son wants to ride, but I see him as extremely green and young lad to get into motorcycling in Chicago traffic, no less. He has already been in a rearend (his fault) accident, and been sideswiped n another occasion. I offered him my corvette (someday) if he promised never to get a bike. I was a pilot in my college days..(dad had a twin turbo aztec) and I feel I was far more technically trained which I include in my motorcycling. Should I try to break in my son, while I have the energy? Or should I have him swear it off? What do y'all think? Sunrayman
  6. Our youngest son, Jason(Air Force pilot) is being deployed to Afghanistan in March to fly reconnaissance. He leaves in February to train on a new plane...NC12. The civilian plane is the King Air 350. This is his 3rd military plane to fly. He started out flying the B2 Stealth. He currently was a pilot instructor for the T 38. Some of you have met him as he rides a ZX 1400 and has rode to some of our meet n eats, especially to St. Jude's and to Snarley Bills at St. Charles. We support him and all our military and pray for their safe return home. Don and Pat
  7. So last night I hooched my youngest son off to the local Horsepital as he was running a Temp of 103. Approached Nurse Ratchett at the Counter in the ER. She looks at me,then looks at son. First words outta her mouth was "Do you have Insurance"? When I indicated YES she cordially handed me a REAM of Forms along with a clipboard and TWO ink pens. After 40 minutes of writing furiously I anxiously waited for her to come get a DNA sample from me to prove that I was a real hard-working American Taxpayer...with viable Income....and my picture was not featured on the walls of every Post office in the Noo England area. Long story...short....Last night was such an enjoyable experience that I am now contemplating capping a round into my left foot and blowing my pinky toe right into oblivion....just to get back to Nurse Ratchett and bask in her warm personality and true caring for all who appear before her. Have a nice day all. Boomer.....who is rounding up the paperwork for his Legal name change to "PONCHO"...And says don't blame me...I didn't post signs with Spanish Directions to the Horsepital.
  8. Left work last night in a snowstorm with it blowing snow so hard , top speed was 15 mph ....took me more than 2 hrs. to get about 3/4 of the way home when it happened......The drivers side wiper took a dump....found a parking lot to pull into(thank God there was one right there) hope that the arm just became loose...nope...right side works, drivers don"t.... it justs flops around.....called my son out in the storm to get me....sorry son...by the time he arrived the storm had passed...so my truck is in the shop being repaired today (at least I had today off)...and here I sit waiting for the ups guy to finish delivering the rest of the Christmas gifts I ordered , I need to go to the post office to send out some vr wraps.... . probably should shovel out the drive again (snowblower still broke, shoveled till 10pm last night)......and waiting to hear from my repair shop...Think I'll get another cup of coffee and wait for spring to arrive..I hate winter...maybe a bowl of ice cream will help ??:ICgrin:
  9. :322:i am looking for a helmet to fit my almost three year old son any help would be awesome
  10. We are heading out to Ft. Sill Oklahoma today for my youngest son, Benji's graduation.http://i74.photobucket.com/albums/i274/13thAFMonterey/1126091322_01.jpg We are sooo proud of him. The older son, Jared, is on his second week at Ft. Sill.http://i74.photobucket.com/albums/i274/13thAFMonterey/1120090437.jpg We are very proud of him too. This should be an interesting 11 hour drive, as I just had a major tooth pulled yesterday...ouch. Mama will be doing most of the driving. Buddy, we may give you a call when we get out there. If time permits, I would like to meet you in person and look at your RSV. I'll have my laptop with me, so I can keep in touch, and yes Mini, I will get some more pics.
  11. $20.00 for gas.... Free lunch from son.... 200 mile ride on a beautiful day in the middle of November to have lunch with son....priceless:thumbsup2: I even found a couple roads I hadn't been on before....bonus:thumbsup:
  12. Unfortunately my son got A H1N1 about 10 days ago. During that time he went from: "go back home it's a cold" to Intensive Care Unit with assisted respiratory support, and so far he still is there. Nobody give us (Me and my Wife) instructions about medicine or vaccine to take (Yes, I'm talking about doctors), and today we get the best part: A call from the county trying to research about how this happened. (It take 10 days to the county to realize my son is ill). One day, same people will going to do another research but nobody will be alive to answer the phone.... :95:
  13. thought i'd pass this along cabela's is selling a reproduction 1851 confederate navy colt .44 cal. pistol, black powder, new, for $129.99...pistol is made by Pietta...i am by no means a knowledgeable gun collector...and i'm sure this isn't gonna light fires under serious collectors..but my son wants to start a gun collection and it's a nice piece.......and maybe others might be interested......supposedly good through xmas........
  14. About 8 years ago, while my son was living with his mother in NC, he was sent to spend the sumer with his favorite uncle in FL, whom just happens to be openly gay. I have met the dude several times along with his long term boy friend. I really liked both of them, they were comfortable in their own skin and happy being who they were. Well heres the rub... About three years ago, because of his behavior, my son was sent to life with me. Through a series of unfortunate events with his brothers, we found out he had been molested multiple times by non-other than the uncles boy friend... And now I know the uncle as well. Needless to say I did every thing I could to try and get these two vermin arrested. I call the police in Mi, NC, and FL. As well as the FBI and The Center For Missing and Exploited Children (who actually did the most to help me) Nobody wanted to open the can of worms that it would take for a conviction, because it would take a multi-state prosecution to be effective. Because he was molested in two states and was living in another. So, now it's 2009, my son will be 18 in Feb of 2010. I get a phone call from a Detective in Hillsborough County FL. The Uncle was arrest for kiddie porn. When they went to serve the warrant for his PC, he actually had a young boy ( perhaps a run-away) in the house and they suspect molestation there as well. So they arrested him ( I now know he was a registered offender) and took his PC in for evidence. Set a 1.5 Million dollar bond. After investigating his PC they now have OVER 200 COUNTS against him. Remember the afore mentioned boy friend? He was already in jail for posession of weed and sexual assault of some type. Well they now have him on over 200 counts of kiddie porn as well!!... 2.5 million dollar bond! It breaks my heart to say it, but my son is part of their investigation of the porn. I am upset as you can imagine. If someone... Anyone would have tried to do something when I made my reports, they could have stopped this sooner and maybe saved some people from having to go through this. But in the end they got their arses. You can go to the Hillsborough County Jail web-site and see the charges ( if interested that is, I have the names) ... Please for the love of your children, WATCH WHO THEY ARE WITH!
  15. Haven't been on here much due to life happening........so I figured I'd fill you guys in. My son got married last week, 9/6 .....unbelievable 5 day ongoing events......whole family got together, which doesn't happen near enough.....kids are in Jamaica now and we can't wait to see them when they get back. I also decided to pull the plug and retire from my job after 24 years. Seems my attitude has changed towards the people I deal with and wasn't really into doing it anymore. I have a new job in the works, something that is totally different from anything I have ever done before so I'm pretty excited. Sept 26th will be my last day. Havent been riding much, samantha and I have just been too busy getting things done here, I've even toyed with the idea of selling the bike but I think I'mgoing to hold onto it for a bit longer and see what pans out. First pic is of son and his Mom Second is the bride and groom ANyway, I still think of you all and hope to be getting on here more often.
  16. Thank you to everyone that made my family's first Vogel event so memorable. For the great rides, great individuals, and Kevlar-seeking bears, we plan to be back next time. As a side note, I'm also proud to say that my oldest son learned to ride his bike without training wheels while we were there. He's still got a few years before he can ride with his dad but he's on his way.
  17. Strugis South Sturgis MS Aug 13-16 2009 http://www.venturerider.org/forum/newthread.php?do=newthread&f=2 We may have some thunderstorms in the area but I think we are gonna ride up there and check them out Sat and Sunday at least. They usually have a pretty good crowd and a lot of intertainment with some vendors and lots to eat. It is gonna be hot...heat index around 107, so I may be circling the area to stay cool. If you happen to go...Look for a couple of goons with flourscent yellow vest...that will most likely be me and my son. I will be riding the RSMV with LEDs probably with the better half on the back and the son will be riding a Midnight VSTAR custom.
  18. I have officialy joined the Darksiders. Put a nexum 165/80-15 on the rear and took a 200 mile ride this AM just to try it out. Loved it and so did the wife. Now to convince the son. He is having a fit about it. But he rides a Harley so that probably accounts for it . He is just jealous. Ride safe and may God Bless.
  19. When I bought my Venture, I sold my 20 yr old son my beautiful '82 Suzuki GS850L that I had driven for years. Tonight, some idiot runs him off the road by driving in the wrong lane. He high sided in the ditch, and rolled it several times. He is ok, other than a few scrapes and bruises. The bike is junk. It was only about a mile from home, and I was able to ride it home after straightening a few things out. We are all telling him just how lucky he is to be alive, as it often turns out much worse. Gonna be sore the next few days. I'm just glad he's still here. Bad thing is, he's going thru a rough divorce right now, and isn't taking it well. This was his only form of transportation, and it was kind of his way of getting away from it all...now he doesn't even have that. http://i74.photobucket.com/albums/i274/13thAFMonterey/DJBikes.jpg
  20. Hey guys, Thought I'd share a couple of pics of my new grandson. This is Toby. So new these photos are 24 hours old. First grandchild, and needless to say the pillion-in-a-million can't wait for a cuddle. Perhaps tomorrow - 400kms away. #1 - Father and son. #2 - Mother and son. #3 Toby.
  21. I talked to my Son tonight, He's heading out to boot camp:pushups: in San Diego Ca. on May 4. I'm so proud of him yet I'm scared as well - being a Father. He said he wanted to go in the Marines. So I gave him my full support:happy34:. He was kinda shock that I backed him on his decision. Told him I wanted to go in when I was 18 but my football days ruin that idea - knees. So now my Son is going to serve our Country. Sorry this is not about motorcycles, Just wanted to tell everyone how proud I am of my Son...... Buddy Father of a U.S. Marine
  22. Today I passed a school and saw a Venture Royale 1300 in a school's drop off lane. At first I thought it was a teacher but then I realized it was a Dad dropping his son off to school. I look forward to taking my son to school on a bike, but he's only 5 now so that's a few years off. Looked like a fun way to go to school!
  23. The Jester is in the House. I helped my son with his portfolio for college with this video. He did everything but make me a better actor. But it was fun anyway. [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pbq6MKxJGZ8]YouTube - 2LOONEYS GARAGE[/ame] Let my son know what you think by posting a comment. I think he did a great job... Just a proud Pop talking. Be Safe The Jester
  24. I invite everyone that is also using facebook to keep in touch with their friends and family to check into this facebook link. http://www.facebook.com/group.php?gid=66782887392 This is a group of young (early 20's) university students from Victoria BC Canada. These ... let me call them kids, and yes I am the proud father of one of them..... are setting up to ride bicycles across canada to raise money for a very very good cause that should be very close in any long term riders mind, Brain Injury. This facebook link is only to help build awareness that these kids are going ahead to do this.... there is no request for money anywhere. My son Brad (22 yrs old) is one of the driving forces behind this and is going to be the main rider. He will have one of his female and one male cousin join him on the ride. He will likely have have my 18 yr old son drive a motor home... if they can get one.... Trec bicycles are giving him some bicycles at cost and many other sponsors are coming on board as they progress. Ride safe all................ Kevin
  25. FROG MAN

    TW-200

Yamaha's TW-200 anybody ever ride or see one. It might make a good putt putt for to and from the camp. 75 mpg fat tires and all. Small enough for MamaMo to ride and my 10 year old son is as tall as she is. I been looking for one just curious for now. Lots of back woods roads to explore from my camp.
