  1. A few weeks ago my brother in law's 17 year old daughter suddenly started having seizures - up to a dozen times a day. She had recently lost some 70 pounds over a short time ( less than a year ) and the doctors felt that the problem might be related to that. Well, it was - she had been forcing herself to vomit after meals and now it seems as if months of doing that has caused some damage that they haven't been able to track down yet. She had to be taken out of school and completed the rest of her year through home study. She can go back in September but the school board has insisted that she be in a wheelchair in case she has a seizure and falls down. Can you imagine this happening at the top of a flight of concrete stairs or standing at a chemistry lab desk with a beaker full of acid on it? The thing is, this is not a stupid child - she's very bright and gets good marks, but she had been overweight all her life and when she got to high school it really started to bother her. So she felt the need to lose weight. Her parents are loving people who look after their children very well, but unfortunately, it is all too easy for a child to do this without being very obvious. Needless to say, they are devastated as are we. In her attempt to be more popular and better looking, she has now put herself in a position that will make it very difficult for her to function normally and that has seriously harmed her health. How long this will last, no one can say...it could be permanent or it may get better with time. She had convinced herself that she was being more careful, was healthier, etc., etc. and so thought that she could get away with it without being harmed. She was painfully wrong. We're doing what we can to support her and to comfort her parents, but there isn't that much to do at this point except hope. I put this story in the "Watering Hole" area rather than the "Inspirational" section, because I know some folks are not comfortable in that forum and I want to be sure that as many people as possible see this story. Raising kids is a tough job and it's easy to miss some of the little signs of problems. If you have a child or know of one who has issues with their looks or popularity, try to get them to open up about it (Yeah. I know - it can sometimes be easier to open a bank vault with tweezers) but try anyway. If this story gets even one child to open up and be prevented from harming themselves then at least there will have been something good that came out of this. Our children are our most precious resource. Without them, there is no future for man. If we can't protect them from every danger, we can hopefully protect them from themselves. Andy
  2. Today I was driving down 4 lane street in Aberdeen SD. I pulled up beside a beat up car in the lane beside me, and noticed a 20 something year old woman with plenty of piercings driving. The smartphone she was texting on looked to be worth more than the car. I watched for a few seconds and it was ovious she was texting and not paying attention. Since it was a nice day she had her window down, I took advantage of the situation and voiced my displeasure. I said something to the extent "Quit your effing texting bfore you effing kill somebody!!!!" I know I shouldnt have used such colorful language, but I was pissed. her expression was like I hit her in the face with a shovel. And guess what she did. You guessed it, she went right back to texting. Some people....You Cant Fix STUPID.......... After what happened in Sioux Falls earlier in the week, you would think some people would pay attention.
  3. Pioneer Motor Sports have went way beyond what any business would have been expected to do for us. They opened up the repair shop so several of the members could work on replacing Brown Angel's rear shock which had an issue. Way after hours they let us into shop to use lifts & tools to get him back on road. BongoBobny donated a shock from his parts bike, which was brutally tore apart in short order by a couple of us for the organ donation. Pioneer donated a lot of stuff for the raffle also. They lets people camp there, demo rides, list goes on & on. Keep these people in mind when you need to order something. 12220 Olean Road Sardinia, NY 14134 (716) 496-6000 www.pioneermotorsport.com/ Gary
  4. A rider died today in Sioux Falls. The accident happened last night, there were 5 vehicles involved. The driver that caused the accident tried to run and was caught. He spent his 21st birthday in jail today. The driver was doing 60 mph (in town) and texting when the accident happened at an intersection, and the biker was caught up in the accident. Sad sad day in Sioux Falls. As of right now 10:00 p.m., over 100 people are holding a candlelight vigil in the intersection as I am writing this. The police are still trying to get all the evidence together before reopening the intersection. PLEASE be careful out there people.......I am tired of watching and reading about things like this. I just wish people in cars were as careful as we are.
  5. I would like to give everybody that attended the WNY International a GREAT big thank you for making it special. This was mine and Steamers (Bob) 1st one and I am sure it is not gonna be our last. We met some really great people. The WNY people put things together that we thought you would enjoy and we hope you did. And for all those people that I had HOT SEX with, it was FANTASTIC!!!!!!!
  6. Hi everyone.I have had it with people tailgating me on my bike.I have actually had some so close all I could see was the hood of the car.But I finally found a way to get them to back off.May sound kinda gross to some of you but I have done it three times now and each time it has worked.I just kinda flip my head back and sideways a bit as I spit over my shoulder.Don't know if it is actually hitting the windshield or they see me and realize what I am doing ,but all three times I have done it they back off real quick and one even flipped me the bird as I pulled into the turn lane as they passed me.I may survive going down but I really don't want to be run over by a car following too close if I do go down.
  7. Global TV was on Kootenay Lake about a 45 minute ride from Nelson BC filming some background video on a bad landslide that killed 4 people a few days ago. While filming their background another ladnslide hit and almost got them in their boat. It would really take your breath away to see this coming at you knowing that parts of a town and 4 people were killed the same way. 8. The brunch and cruise is scheduled for Wednesday and we need to have everyone sign up on the calendar ASAP because the deadline for the sign up is July 1st. As of today we only have five people signed up and we need to know how many people are attending, so the caterers know how much food to prepare. We need a minimum of 25 people for the brunch and if we do not have a minimum of 25, we will not have the brunch but will continue to have the cruise. I need to know by the 1st of July, if you are planning on attending the Erie Canal Cruise and Brunch. It will be a nice bike ride and a relaxing afternoon boat ride. After the cruise we will return to Arcade for the Annual Dinner at the Hearth Restaurant, where we will pull the winning ticket for the Aluma Trailer. You have bought your trailer raffle ticket, right!!??? We still have plenty of tickets available, so Paypal me your spare change and I will send you a ticket!! Sign up on the calendar ASAP!!!! http://www.venturerider.org/forum/calendar.php?do=getinfo&e=317&day=2012-7-25&c=1 Thanks Jim
  9. I installed risers last night and was wondering how people rerouted the cables and if you have pictures.
  10. Here are my photos of MD! Seems I prefer the motorcycles to people. I will try to remember next year to get more people! Yama Mama:smile5:
  11. We are just about all packed up and will be on the road in about an hour!! If any of you VR people see me or the trike come on over and introduce yourselves!!
  12. Title sums it up! I just sold my suzuki GSXR in favor of what I like to think of as a limo on two wheels. Picked up my 2005 RSTD 2 nights ago and I am in LOVE. My girl loves to ride as well but hated the back of the GSXR. After one quick trip to get acquainted we are both hooked. Look forward to learning as much as I can here and more important find some cool people to ride with. We are located on LI but ride all over the Pocono /Catskill area. Have a feeling this forum is the best $12 accessory ill get for my rstd.
  13. Okkay.....how many out there want to risk their lives riding besides me saturday to Brant for the "Marcarl Meet and Greet and Tell Lies" gathering? Ray has volunteered, so far. 14. To all the 45-50 people that showed up at our Leakey,Texas MEET and Ride,a three day event THANK YOU from the bottom of our hearts! At 60 years old I finally figured out it is hard to party , Ride, and eat (everything bad for you but so good) and a very few adult beverages for 3 days....but Im still going to keep doing it. JB and Maggie,Thanks again for the help in putting this together with me. I want to also thank the Wives of all the members everywhere as I realized us guys can think these things up but the actual execution is in reality the Women. THANK YOU TO ALL THE LADIES. This has become a MAJOR event and I was going to stop doing them as I thought that it would get old to alot of people but I was assured its just the beginning. Everyone there conducted themselves in a way that made me proud to be a VentureRider...That is where and what I want to see the VR.ORG group stay,"The cream of the Crop". The folks at friopecanfarm.com has reached out to us to hold our rallies there again,THAT says ALOT!! We had every cabin at their facility taken up by our group..We were told,"Dont worry about the 10PM quiet time, You all have the entire place to yourselves anyway!" Well all I can say is what a party. We are doing it again in November. We have a tentative date set but I have to get with JB as I start my work week that weekend on Sunday and to be honest I need a week to rest after all of this!! Again, Sorry for being long winded but Im proud of the group of people that came and contributed and helped others. THANKS EVERYBODY!!!! Tom and Debby
  15. Subject: Fw: Income tax Returned Mail Can you believe it? They sent my income tax return form back to me! In response to question # 4, "Do you have any dependants?" I replied: 2.1 million illegal immigrants 1.1 million crack heads 4.4 million unemployable people 901 thousand people in over 85 prisons and 650 idiots in Parliament Apparently, this was NOT an acceptable answer. Who the hell did I miss?
  16. well I'm back at it again. just wrote down all the towns that NC members live in,all 76. trying to get some feed back on some locations for the meet and eats this year. last year i had one a month and think that this year will try every other month, what do y'all think? i know the economy is still down and that people have a lot of plans doing the year so I'm thinking that spacing them out a little might help. last years schedule was march-19 Columbus NC,April-23 hickory NC,may-28 Greensboro NC,June-18 Asheville NC and July-16 Charlotte NC. i know some of those dates were on holidays and i will try not to make that mistake again, and i will also check out the calender here so not to inter fear with anything else thats going on. thinking about changing up some of the locations to draw more people. once again just trying to hear from some of you for your thoughts and locations. P.S. just to say it again, NOT JUST NC MEMBERS BUT ALSO SURROUNDING AREAS AND ALL OTHERS ARE WELCOME!!!!!! thanks.

I have gone and done it now. I decided I've had enough of the work thing so I'm going to try the retirement thing. What do retired people do?
  18. It's 3 in the morning and there's still a dozen people on the board. Looks like I'm not the only one with strange sleep habits.
  19. I realize this is a huge thing to ask of anyone but I am going to make this to the point. I am in Indiana and my oldest brother is in Eugene Oregon. He is in ICU right now and have heard various things in regards to his condition including doctors aren't sure if he is going to make it. My parents have asked me to stay put as my parents, my brothers 2 daughters and their families have already gone out there and mom says too many people wouldn't be good for him. But if I get a call that says the entire family should be there I want to get there ASAP. If I can help it I don't want to deal with 30 layovers to get to him that commercial airlines from what i remember seem to make everyone do on long flights. Thanks. Jerry
  20. Just in case ya didn't know... http://f1618.mail.yahoo.com/ya/download?mid=1%5f159%5fAKTSi2IAAMM6T14XiACnqmizezs&pid=2.2&fid=Inbox&inline=1&appid=YahooMailClassic Minnesota became the 32nd state on May 11, 1858 and was originally settled by a lost tribe of Swedes & Norwegians seeking refuge from the searing heat of Wisconsin 's winters. Minnesota gets it's name from the Sioux Indian word "mah-nee-soo-tah," meaning, "No, really...!!!! They eat fish soaked in lye." The state song of Minnesota is "Someday the Vikings will... Aw, never mind." The Mall of America in Bloomington , Minnesota covers 9.5 million square feet and has enough space to hold 185,000 idiot teenagers yapping away on cell phones. Madison, Minnesota is known as "the lutefisk capital of the world." Avoid this city at all costs. "The Mary Tyler Moore Show" was set in Minneapolis , Minnesota , and was Mary's first real acting job since leaving the "Dick van Dyke Show. The show about a single woman's struggle to find happiness in the big city was originally titled "Life Without Dick," but that was changed for some reason. Downtown Minneapolis has an enclosed skyway system covering 52 blocks, allowing people to live, work, eat, and sleep without ever going outside. The only downside to this that a Norwegian occasionally turns up missing. Cartoonist Charles M. Shultz was born in Minneapolis , Minnesota and grew up in St. Paul . He was the only artist to accurately depict the perfectly circular heads of Minnesota natives. The Hormel Company of Austin , Minnesota produces 6 million cans of Spam a year, even though no one actually eats it. Spam is a prized food in Japan & Hawaii--Spam sushi!! Minnesota license plates are blue & white and contain the phrase "Blizzards on the 4th of July - you get used to it." Frank C. Mars, founder of the Mars Candy Co. was born in Newport, Minnesota . His 3 Musketeers candy bar originally contained three bars in one wrapper, each filled with a different flavor of nougat -chocolate, Spam and lutefisk. Tonka trucks continue to be manufactured in Minnetonka, Minnesota, despite the thousands of GI Joe dolls killed by them annually in rollover accidents. No airbags, no seat belts. These things are deathtraps, I tell ya! Author Laura Ingalls Wilder was raised at Walnut Grove, Minnesota, and was famous for writing the "Little House" series of books, as well as inventing the "Spam diet" which consists of looking at a plate of Spam until you lose your appetite. Much like the "lutefisk diet" The snowmobile was invented in Roseau , Minnesota so as to allow families a means of attending 4th of July picnics Minnesotans are almost indistinguishable from Wisconsinites. The only way to tell them apart is to ask if they voted for Mondale in '84. Now... it's up to you to forward this to all your friends If one of them does not forward it to others, he/she will be given an entrance pin to attend the Eelpout Festival in Walker, MN....in February -- Cold is a relative thing ya know.... At 65 degrees, Arizonans turn on the heat. People in Minnesota plant gardens. At 60, Californians shiver uncontrollably. People in Minnesota sunbathe. At 50, Italian & English cars won't start. People in Minnesota drive with the windows down.. At 40, Georgians don coats, thermal underwear, gloves, wool hats. People in Minnesota throw on a flannel shirt. At 35, New York landlords finally turn up the heat. People in Minnesota have the last cookout before it gets cold. At 20, People in Miami all die. Minnesotans close their windows. At 0, Californians fly away to Mexico . People in Minnesota get out their winter coats. At 10 below zero, Hollywood disintegrates. The Girl Scouts in Minnesota are selling cookies door to door. At 20 below, Washington DC runs out of hot air. (Ya think? Nah.). People in Minnesota let their dogs sleep indoors. At 30 below, Santa Claus abandons the North Pole. Minnesotans get upset because they can't start the snowmobile. At 40 below, ALL atomic motion stops. People in Minnesota start saying..."Cold enough for ya, eh?" At 50 below, hell freezes over. Minnesota public schools will open 2 hours late.
  21. Things I learned as a potential juror today: 1. As a potential juror, I do NOT have the right to say. "I object!":confused07: 2. I do NOT have the right to say, "hearsay, your honor!". 3. Healthfood stores are dens of left-wing feminists (I learned this from the defense attorney). 4. I do NOT have the abilty to tell if people are guilty by looking at them. I was not selected, but I would have made an excellent juror, I think.
  22. I have an LG Apex phone.Wondering if anyone else has one and what kind of cradle they use.Or whats a good all purpose cradle that people have been using. thanks for any info.
  23. Haven't been able to get on the Venturers site for several days. Says there are not forums period. Still logged in. I know it is a competing site, but many if not most people there are also on here. Just wondered if it was me or the site? Thanks
  24. My be why people don't see motorcycles. Check it out. http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-chat/2854835/posts
  25. I have what looks like a cigarette lighter on left fairing that says 12V-DC. There is nothing there as far as wires go. Is this a dummy plug or do they really need to let people know it's a 12V-DC system?
