  1. Had this link sent to me from my father, thought I'd pass it along to a group of people I knew would appreciate it. This one hits it right on the head. Oz [ame= ] [/ame]
  2. No, this doesn't have to do with the weather in NYC! This is a great gag that involved a couple hundred people. It would have been eerie to see. Click here: Frozen
  3. It's with a very heavy heart that I let you all know of the passing of a great friend and brother. Many of you who are PGR members may know the name "Deltoid" GA Ride Captain. Mike Bland was one of the finest people I've ever met and one of the few I would consider a true friend. He lived with no compromise. A Marine to the end Mike died of a brain tumor Friday night without a wimper. Through months of deteriorating health he never complained and continued to make people around him laugh and feel good about themselves. I will really miss him. I bought Mike a Venture Guardian Bell last Christmas in the hopes that there would be a miracle and Mike would ride again. He has an '07 Midnight Venture and was a member here even though I don't think he ever posted. He liked to read a lot of the tech stuff. Mike was cremated Saturday and we will have a memorial service later this week. the Guardian Bell will be attached to his urn and protect him on his final ride. I wish you all could have known him. He would have fit in perfectly with the great group of people I have met here. Thanks for the friendship and the miles Mike. I will miss you.

    Venture's the

I'm curious,,what makes these bikes so special,,when i'm on the road i don't see many of them,,but on the internet ,not to many of them are for sale,,you see more H/D and goldwings than anything else . ,,i just wanted to know why people like them so?
  5. No problems here but things could be worse. The scanner was full yesterday with trees down creating brush fires. We had one just 1/2 from here. At 4:00 am there is still 7000 people with no electricity. Many with no source of backup heat. Now the scanner is full of personal injury accidents. People just trying to stay warm at 4:00am.People are to dependent on electricity and many do not have a plan for a outage. Darn cold night to go without.
  6. Actually....let's NOT talk politics. Here's the thing folks. I know that as we get closer and closer to the primaries and then the general election, it will get harder and harder to not get into political discussions here. I'm sorry folks, I just can't let that happen. Here is why. IT MAKES ME MAD That is the truth of the matter. I know that some of you really enjoy debating the virtues, or lack thereof, of the various candidates, issues, etc. I also know that most of us feel very strongly about our positions on these things. I can assure you that I am no exception. I am VERY political. I've actually written to my representatives about 25 times during the past 12 months alone. How many of you have taken the time to do that? I have strong opinions, I get very angry with some of the decisions made by those who are SUPPOSED to be representing the people and I make my voice heard loud and often. It does very little good but that along with voting is all that I am able to do. We can debate these issue here until the end of time and it will NOT change a thing. My political leanings are a result of things that I have seen and experienced during my 52 years on this earth. I am smart enough to read, research, investigate and form my own opinions about the issues. If I told each one of you that you could post 100 pages of political commentary and opinion, there is not a single one of you who could change my mind about what I believe and how I will cast my votes. As I said, my political beliefs are based upon my life happenings, not anything that I've heard from a politician, friend, news personality or anybody else. I think that most people are the same way. That being the case, what is there to gain by venting our anger, frustration, opinions here? I try to be very fair in the way that I run this site. I know that we have people that are Republicans, Democrats, Independents. I know that we have people of various races, religions, socio economic standings. We have people from various countries and cultures. We are NOT going to agree on politics and we are NOT going to persuade anybody else to think the same way that we do with the words that we can write here. I'll be honest with you about something else. If we start discussing politics here and I get involved, some of you are not going to like what I have to say. Whether I'm to the left or to the right, there are going to be some of you who lean the other way and there are going to be feelings hurt. I would much rather have as many of you as possible as friends....friendship based upon the thing that brings us together as a group... a club...a family. I am only human and as much as I try to be tolerant of those whom have opinions that differ from my own, I am not strong enough to always separate it. I do have close friends from different political parties and for the most part, I do respect them. I will also stand beside them and fight for their right to have those differing opinions. The truth is though, there are some specific issues that I just cannot understand how people can feel the way that they do. For that reason, I choose to NOT discuss political issues with most people because it could very well result in my loosing some respect for them and them for me. So that is the way that I feel. That is why we will continue to keep politics to a minimum here and I hope that you will all work with me to see that this rule is followed. If this site ever DOES turn political, I can promise you that it will be in support of MY political views and some of you wouldn't care for that at all.
  7. At our new state of residence Nv,Las Vegas. current temp is 51 F We went through the snow and cold and saw many wrecks and arrived safely. That is the important part. We had a couple of close calls and it never ceases to amaze me that when the temp is at 32 F or below and the roads are snowy and wet why people think they can drive 70mph. I mostly think it natures way of passive aggressive natural selection but the trouble with that is that those idiots seam to take others out with them. We are excited about our new place to live, more riding time and new places to explore with the great people we have met here and the new ones to come. We will mis our friends and riding buddies we had in Mn and hope that if there looking for a little winter vacation they keep us in mind. We have arrived...........................Ron
  8. Just before New Years I had sat myself down to write a note to the members of the VentureRiders, mainly to do two things 1) explain myself for some of my posts over the last couple of years, and 2) apologize for a couple of those posts. But after writing the note and reading it a couple of times I decided that it probably wasn't worth posting...why, I'm not sure. Moving forward to today I saw the following in the "Long Winter" thread and after reading these words rethought my decision to write a note or not. Red1 from just down the road from me here in Wisconsin said: "Too often, we allow ourselves to be polarized by our differences and fail to see the bigger picture. We gather here because of what we have in common - a joy of riding a great bike, a need for a little information and a desire to associate with people that share our passion. Perhaps if we kept the focus on that and had a little more tolerance for those that don't think exactly like we do, or express themselves precisely right - posts like this would no longer be necessary." Even though Don would probably tell you I'm not one of the people he was initially talking about, I'm pretty sure there are some of you who definitely believe I am one of those people. Maybe I am, maybe I'm not, but I would like to explain myself a little bit. As Don pointed out in another post recently, yes, I am a director on the Venturer site. I'm biased regarding sites? Yes, a true statement. But this post isn't about the sites, it's about the people who frequent all the Venture related sites. Do I believe the people that frequent any of the sites are any different? No! And there's the basis for much of the grumpiness I sometimes come across with when I infrequently post here on the VentureRider site. As I said I'm not talking about the sites or their merits or shortcomings, I'm talking about the people. It's always been about the ride and the people for me. That's why I come to this site as well...if it was about the site alone, I'd never be here. What it comes down to is when I read posts here, or elsewhere, that include the words "better people here" it angers me. The riders, the people, we're all the same. Some of personalities or traits of some people on the other sites you may not care for, but the same can be said for some of the people here. Earlier this year I posted a rather extensive list of events for the upper Midwest, many of those were Venturers sponsored events but not all. At first there were quite a few thank yous for posting, but then one member here got angry about the posts and said I was doing a recruiting campaign for the Venturers. I wasn't, I thought I was simply providing information for riders. Don did come to my rescue and let everyone know I was simply posting events, but it didn't seem to appease that particular member. Since then, while I have posted a couple of things, I haven't specifically posted anything Venturer related out of courtesy for this site and the member angered by the event posts. Bottom-line. I ride a Venture (and an FJR) and I hope that's enough for us to share some common ground. I'd like to be able to walk up to another rider with a Venture, talk about our rides, and maybe start a friendship. I hope that because I call another Venture site my first internet home doesn't keep that from happening. Now for the apologies. Don...no detail for the masses, but I am sorry I PO'd you in early in 2007. We used to share some common ground (other than the bike we ride)...I know that's no longer true, but I would hope the bumps in the road are behind us. To the other VentureRiders I've managed to anger at one time or another, I apologize. I hope our paths cross someday and we can get to know each other....my home north of Green Bay (and more importantly my garage and tools) are always open to anyone riding a Venture (or FJR, or Concours, or Gold Wing, or....). Here's to a great 2008. Curt p.s. I would like to say thank you to the creators of the VentureRider calendar for using some of my pictures. Other than me providing pictures of Ventures, you didn't ask nor did you care where they came from...they were pictures of Ventures and the people who ride them. A bigger thank you for making myself and my wife Cathy (crossing Big Mac) the opening picture for the 24-month calendar.
  9. This was passed around on the C.M.C. site, thought you'd all get some enjoyment out of it as well. http://www.whybike.com/biker Mine came back as; You are a Road Captain You live in the wind. You could be at home watching far off destinations on TV but you prefer to discover your own. You cross state lines like most people cross the street. When stuff happens people look to you for answers. You are a wiz with duct tape and bailing wire. Riding is not just a diversion but a way of life.

To Flame or Not to Flame

There have been several members that have been burned by a fellow member in the VR classified section. I am sure that 99% of the members of this forum are good, honest people. I hate to see the other 1% screw up a good thing. My question is...should I mention this individual's name so that others can use caution in their dealings with him? Or, should I keep my mouth shut and not flame fellow members? I wouldn't be so bothered by this, but some people have lost considerable amounts of money to this guy. Let me know what you all think.
  12. Well here it is Christmas eve. I would like to ask everyone a favor please be vary careful out there on a your bike if you have to ride. The people are just caught up in sopping and not looking for us at all. P.S. you may want to take a gun. :7_6_3[1]::7_6_3[1]:
  13. this is a FIRST, for me. i am one of those people who NEVER meets a stranger. today, i saw a guy walking around in the local grocery store, wearing a "star riders", tee shirt. it said "CENTRAL NEW JERSEY, STAR GROUP" or something similar. and also said "chapter 118". i asked him , if he rode a yamaha, thinking that would get a conversation started. he answered YES i ride a royal star. i asked if he'd ever been to our web site. again "yes, i've been there a few times". then he just turned and walked away!!!!!! first time i EVER met a biker, who didn't want to talk your ear off, about his bike!!!!! maybe that's just the way people are in that part of new jersey, i don't know. i was stationed in "Lakehurst", in the first part of 1970, but i don't remember being allowed to interact with the locals. just jt
  14. I know we have some people in the military on this site so with the christmas season fast approching I would like to thank all the people in the military that won't be with there families for christmas. Thank you for your sacrifice and for all you do everyday.
  15. I was just sittin' here reading what some others had posted regarding the way people look, young versus old, and aliens versus those who have been here a while. It seams to me that we have been dealing with those problems since this country was first settled at Jamestown, VA. The older generation has always been inventing new stuff that made life both better and and more difficult for the younger generation. We often did'nt like the way they looked or dressed, hell we didn't even like the music they listened too. Now some of it has become classic. My dad (now gone) could not stand men with long hair or mustaches, now it is the fashion. Well, things change and we have to change with them and learn. When we came back from Viet Nam, we were not welcomed home and were harassed. Now when the troups come home they are heroes, and they are. But we are not taking care of them, just like before. We see, kids with spikey hair, illegal immigrants, different religions that we have known about but never met their believers before. A black man running for president, that is credible candidate. Wow, things are changing and staying they same all the time. These people and things I mentioned earlier are our furture and we should embrace it. We don't know where it will go, but go it must. Ain't it wonderful. Please think about the people I mentioned earlier, it is not what they look like, or where they came from that is important; it is what they will do with their lives that will be important. It is our responsibility to help them develope in their own way that is important. We must open our hearts and minds and accept them and their ideas. As I am sure our parents and grand parents accepted us. See these changes as opportunity. I am not sure what caused me to write this. I hope after you have read it, you will think too. Maybe it is just because tomorrow is kind of a big and anxious day for me. After I get home late tomorrow it will be interesting to see what some of you have to say. I hope I did not ramble too much.
  16. was listening to cfrb 1010 in toronto yesterday a talk radio, and the topic. makes me ashamed to be canadian they where there for therpy Injured soldiers who lost limbs in Iraq and Afghanistan have been jeered out of a public pool for fear that they might frighten children. people who had their kids there for swimming lessons did this. 17. In case you haven't noticed I have been away from the site for a little over a month. Actually it's been closer to 2 months but like I said, who's noticed. Well, I just felt like I should explain. By the way, some of you will remember me as "Mississippi" from the vogel ride-in. I was riding drag for group 2. Anyway, in Sept. my wife and I took a 10 day road trip to South Dakota. It was the first vacation we've had in over 3 years. It was really nice; we got to see all the attractions and then some. took back roads up there and did some pretty empty country but it was still nice. took the interstates home except for the stretch between springfield Mo. and Memphis. I like the drive thru Ark. It goes right past where I used to live. Then, on 8 Oct I left for West Virginia, for the Fall ride with the Venturers. I know many of you are like me, spend time on both sites. great people on both sites. Anyway, the ride-in lasted until Sunday, the 14th when most people headed home. On the 13th we road to the New River Gorge bridge and also road down to the river and then across the old bridge. Then we went to a barbeque place for dinner. After dinner we headed back to the hotel in Beckley. Unfortunately, I didn't make it. Right afterI got back on Hwy 19, a 4 lane divided road, there was another group of bikes (not our group) in the right lane. They were approaching an intersection and evidently wanted to turn left but had almost missed the turn as they were almost stopped in the right lane. As I approached in the left lane I saw that they all had their left turn signal on. I backed off the throttle and continued in the left lane. Just as I approached the intersection either the lead bike or one near the front pulled out left in front of me evidently heading for the left turn lane. I slammed on the brakes and steered to the left, not knowing if the rest were going to follow. Evidently he didn't see me and continued to the left turn lane where I hit him. Luckily, just before we collided I was able to turn my bike sideways so I didn't hit him with the front tire. We pancaked, my right side to his left side. I left the bike and rolled down the median some ways. My bike, after hitting him, fell over on the left side and slid some ways. So both sides had heavy damage. almost all of the plastic was either cracked, broken or scraped badly. I wound up seperating my right shoulder and banging up my left knee. Spent two days in the hospital in Beckley during which time my son drove up and picked me and the bike up. On 23 Oct I had surgery on my shoulder and started therapy last week. Xrays showed nothing in my knee broken but it is really bothering me so I had an MRI done this past Sunday. Don't want more surgery but hope they find out what's wrong. Bike is totaled; they were supposed to pick it up today but when the guy called last night he got upset when I told him I had removed accessories, including my pipes, with the consent of the adjuster. He is from some place in Alabama and I guess he is going to try to rebuild the bike. I was going to do the same but they wanted over 4k for salvage value. Parts would run at least 10k so I decided it wasn't worth it. Anyway, got my check for the bike and came out pretty good. It was an 06 with a little over 18k. Oh yeah, this is the kicker....the guys' friends got together and 6 of them made written statements that he was ALREADY in the left turn lane, and it appeared I was trying to pass him on the LEFT !!! And the Fayetteville police BOUGHT IT !!!! So far though, the police haven't sent me any suprizes. So, that's my story. Won't be doing any riding for awhile. 3 weeks ago I said I would never ride again but can't lead a sheltered life and enjoy living. So right now it's a maybe. What bike will I get?? Don't know that yet either. I'll probably catch hell with all of you but I am leaning towards an Ultra. But like I said, no decision right now. Anyway, it's good to be back and I'll be lurking around. By the way, I just want to say that the people I was riding with were wonderful. A couple of them were with me at the scene and kept me as calm as possible considering the awful pain and then many of them went to the hospital and waited until late that night until I was out of the ER. One couple even stayed an extra day until my son got there. Didn't want me to be alone. I know this group of folks on this site would be equally as concerned and helpful. That's why I am so happy and proud to be part of thses two wonderful groups. You may meet the nicest people on a Honda but Venture riders are true friends !!!!!!
  18. This would have been traumatic to see. Guess the driver was still alive afterwards but had burns over 90% of his body. People usually do not survive this. http://www.cnn.com/video/#/video/us/2007/11/16/vosil.tx.truck.explosion.on.i35.ktxa http://i144.photobucket.com/albums/r162/jsharr/fire004.jpg
  19. Came across this and since it's something that gets "under my skin" from time to time, thought I'd bring it up just to see what others do and think about it. http://travel.sympatico.msn.ca/Travelling+Heres+when+to+tip++and+how+much/TravelFeatures/ContentPosting.aspx?isfa=1&newsitemid=237015&feedname=TRANS-HOMEMAKERS&show=False&number=0&showbyline=True&subtitle=&detect=&abc=abc Personally, I believe in tipping when I get good service. I don't believe that I should tip "just because". People get hired to do a job at a specific rate of pay. "Just because" they work in a restaurant does not mean that they are entitled to a tip irregardless of how they go about serving me. At least around here, their rate of pay is about the same as people in other businesses...do they get a tip?... not...yet they may well still be in a service-related industry!
  20. This is great coming from anyone, but even better coming from Bill Cosby......... http://us.f303.mail.yahoo.com/ya/download/us/ShowLetter?box=Inbox&MsgId=7929_8356817_1274_2415_26567_0_71689_60100_1254330354&bodyPart=2&YY=76228&y5beta=yes&y5beta=yes&order=down&sort=date&pos=0&view=a&head=b&Idx=0 "They're standing on the corner and they can't speak English. I can't even talk the way these people talk: Why you ain't, Where you is, What he drive, Where he stay, Where he work, Who you be... And I blamed the kid until I heard the mother talk. And then I heard the father talk. Everybody knows it's important to speak English except these knuckleheads. You can't be a doctor with that kind of crap coming out of your mouth. In fact you will never get any kind of job making a decent living. People marched and were hit in the face with rocks to get an education, and now we've got these knuckleheads walking around. The lower economic people are not holding up their end in this deal. These people are not parenting. They are buying things for kids. $500 sneakers for what ? ? And they won't spend $200 for Hooked on Phonics. I am talking about these people who cry when ! their s on is standing there in an orange suit. Where were you when he was 2 ? ? Where were you when he was 12 ? ? Where were you when he was 18 and how come you didn't know that he had a pistol ? ? And where is the father ? ? Or who is his father ? People putting their clothes on backward: Isn't that a sign of something gone wrong? People with their hats on backward, pants down around the crack, isn't that a sign of something ? Or are you waiting for Jesus to pull his pants up ? Isn't it a sign of something when she has her dress all the way up and got all type of needles [piercing] going through her body? What part of Africa did this come from?? We are not Africans. Those people are not Africans; they don't know a thing about Africa . With names like Shaniqua, Taliqua and Mohammed and all of that crap, and all of them are in jail. Brown or black versus the Board of Education is no longer the white person's problem. We have got to take the neighborhood back. People used to be ashamed. Today a woman has eight children with eight different 'husbands' -- or men or whatever you call them now. We have millionaire football players who cannot read. SPAN> We have million-dollar basketball players who can't write two paragraphs. We, as black folks have to do a better job. Someone working at Wal-Mart with seven kids, you are hurting us. We have to start holding each other to a higher standard. We cannot blame the white people any longer." Dr. William Henry "Bill" Cosby, Jr., Ed.D. http://us.f303.mail.yahoo.com/ya/download/us/ShowLetter?box=Inbox&MsgId=7929_8356817_1274_2415_26567_0_71689_60100_1254330354&bodyPart=3&YY=76228&y5beta=yes&y5beta=yes&order=down&sort=date&pos=0&view=a&head=b&Idx=0 WAY TO GO, BILL ! ! It's never been about color... It's about behavior ! ! !

I'am looking for ideas for a ride this spring, We want to raise money for a Christian group. And some people may be offended by a poker run. any other ideas Thanks
  22. Hi All: Sometimes it takes meeting some good people to make a final decision on what to do about a given situation. I have been out to a Meet and Eat in my Backyard and met some really great people. I have listened to a lot of opinions and had a lot of discussion about Yamaha and my bike Crickett. I have been doing this and saying this.....most likely coming to a decision myself. Bottom line is Yes I like the Venture Motorcycle, put all its good points on one side......put its bad ones on the other side......it comes out a winner, please forgive me......I have struggled to come to this decision myself. All of you know some about this Clutch Basket Chirp, some of you know exactly what it is as you have it......and are also tired of the Screech........I suppose that is the correct term to use.....A screech with a built in Crickett. So this evening when I get back from taking Miss Brown Eyes on her Sunday Afternoon ride....I am going to compose a letter directly to Yamaha......this coming week I will follow up ahead of time and after it with several important phone calls. I am going to listen to the opinions I also agree with. I like the Venture.....I like the people who ride them......I think it would be wrong of me to walk away from this issue.......one or two of them think I have the intelligence and determination to fight the good fight.......I will have to talk to myself and make myself behave a bit.........but we are going to try. I need your help......all of you........if you have this situation or know of it......or can add your voice to this , I really could use your help. I only ask that we all put our opinions about where the Venture is going.....how they may change it.. ON HOLD IN LETTERS TO YAMAHA. and above all do not say anything bad about any dealer......we know they are bad.......just that we should not say this. I am going to ask Yamaha to assign me a Dealer.....to work with me......to get this issue resolved and try to do this in a nice and friendly and intelligent manner. It may take awhile......okay.......I have the time. My latest word from my new dealer relationship was that they would change my clutch basket one time.....let me ride it..if I liked the sound, that would be fine, if I did not, they would re-install the original basket. I do not accept this at this point, I want it properly taken care of. If it takes half a dozen baskets.....several drive shafts and a couple universals to accomplish this.....this is the goal. I wish to bypass the dealerships at this point.....go right on up the ladder, and let Yamaha get involved and resolve this. I will state in my letter to them......you in management need to become aware of our situation.....our opinions on this......we like Yamaha products and some of us can be great field reps for your products.....you need to be aware of our serious intent of this issue. I am sure they are aware of this site already.....I am not sure how much attention management pays to it....but I will bring it to their attention. I wish to stress......do not run down the dealers....lets be nice....if an answer cannot be obtained from one source , we will bypass them, and go to the next one in the line. Who knows we might actually win a battle or two, and it can only help all of us who have this situation. I know that sometimes on this forum......there are a lot more visitors than members....people looking for information.....this is how I found it. So people are watching. I am done with changing my mind.....saying stupid things....flitting around like a mosquito.........I am going to hang in there and fight the good fight.......after meeting some of the people involved in all this this weekend, I think I owe it to them , and myself. Respectfully Kit See I can be serious as can be when I want to be.....I have finally got my own mind wrapped around this situation, wish me luck...help me if you can.
  23. Something to ponder on ..... There are 3 Kinds of people : Those who Make things happen . Those who Watch things happen . Those who Wonder what happen . Which one are you ? BEER30
